Firstly three episodes in.... My heart is breaking for her. She's so beautiful, energetic, charismatic but wants a voice which she is 100 percent entitled to.
I comparing her childhood to Katie's here.. I believe Kate was raised with the intention to marry a very wealthy man & to be a supporting role. From the word go I get the impression Carol & Michael had big aspirations for their three kids.
However I think Megan was raised to be an activist & leader, she was the leading lady in her life & wanted to quite rightly be Harry's equal.... She wasn't raised to be in a supporting role.. I feel she & they have been deeply failed.

I also find MM beautiful and charismatic, it's the constant bare-faced lies that turn me off.

OF COURSE she was given instruction on royal etiquette, OF COURSE she knew who he was before she met him etc etc.

But there's no reason to think she was raised to be anything in particular.
Same with Kate & her siblings really. Kate happened to marry William and that opened many doors for her family. Would Pippa necessarily have snared a billionaire without being sister of the future Queen?

Mind you, he's a hedge fund manager and that can all go tits up in a day.

H&M are pretty much one-trick ponies now. I'd be surprised if there's anything new in Harry's Spare book.

VanCleefArpels · 23/12/2022 04:56

The whole Kate was brought up to marry well thing is SO TIRED and denies any of the Middletons any agency in their own lives. Does anyone seriously think that a couple of parents who themselves came from very ordinary backgrounds sat down and plotted where they would live and educate their children with the SOLE intention of marrying them off into a life that they had no knowledge or experience of?

The simple fact is that those kids moved in circles common to the schools they went to, as most of us do.

KeepingKeepingOn · 23/12/2022 05:16

Here’s an idea, OP, how about you share your views on a woman without knocking another woman down to do so? 🙄

FFS, what hope do we have of addressing inbuilt societal misogyny and sexism when people both hold this kind of view AND feel it’s acceptable to share it?

I believe that Kate AND Meghan set out to try and grab a date with a prince. Meghan seems to have always wanted to be famous and a social climber. She mixed with actors and lived in LA as a baby and child, thanks to her dad’s job. I don’t believe Meghan when she claimed she didn’t know who Harry was and went to London just for fun. I think she asked her friend to set her up on a date with Harry. However, a date doesn’t always end up as a relationship so it was William and Harry’s decision really.

I also don’t believe that she wasn’t taught etiquette. Harry would’ve ensured this before she met his family. Nevertheless, it is disgusting that the British media were racist towards her. No one deserves that and I’m glad they’re calling the media out.

Speedweed · 23/12/2022 05:23

Alright OP, you've done your bit and can report back to Meagain that her covert PR campaign was a 'success'.

Perhaps also tell her that from her position of massive privilege it's time to stop bloody whining about how hard done by she is, because with everything else that's going on for people it's really not playing well.

pelargoniums · 23/12/2022 05:51

Do people who do the “Meagain” thing think it’s terribly clever? It just looks like you can’t spell.

xmaslurgy · 23/12/2022 05:56

I don't see the point of comparing the two women. That seems very unfair on both of them.

Yes to this. It’s so bizarre. Because Carol worked hard and made something of her life, it’s assumed she was desperate to marry her daughters off to rich men, like a Jane Austen novel. It’s pathetic. They are bright women with their own lives . Their background meant they mixed with wealthy and privileged people. They weren’t going to marry electricians or butchers were they? Nothing wrong with electricians and butchers by the way.

Fairyliz · 23/12/2022 06:09

Well if I had raised my DD’s to be activists and leaders (how on earth do you do that?); I would have been slightly disappointed if they had become a ‘suitcase girl’ with their tits out on tv.

Lampzade · 23/12/2022 06:12

marcopront · 23/12/2022 04:02

@HenryHooverIsMyDH

I hate to say that I don’t think she would have been so in love with Harry if he hadn’t been a prince.

Sorry for the empty post

I agree.
When she talks about telling her friends the fact he is Prince Harry is very early in the list of things about him.

Well he wouldn’t have been so in love with her if she wasn’t beautiful , well educated , independent and an activist. The fact that she is American probably made him even more interested
He admitted he had a checklist and she ticked all the boxes
Did you see the way that Harry was looking at Meghan as she walked down the aisle?
One thing I am certain about is that Harry believes that he got the cream of the crop
.

WTF

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 23/12/2022 06:16

I was a bit taken aback when he said ‘look what he got’ or something similar. Also talking about his families reaction to meeting Meghan. There was so much egotism there. He talked as though M was a prize animal he’d got for breeding. It was all about who he’d ‘pulled’ as a reflection on himself. They are as immature as each other. Both looking for adulation and boasting about themselves. She’s a social climber and he has an inferiority complex.

A complete stranger gets you that angry.
Sorry but your post make you sound unhinged.

Lampzade · 23/12/2022 06:20

Well I say good luck to them.

Ahahahahahaha! What’s she supposed to do, dripfeed that part a few weeks later? Being Prince Harry is sort of his defining thing.

You're not 'sorry' at all, there was no need for another thread. But here we go putting women against each other again. We should do better. For the record my heart doesn't bleed for Meghan. And she's an actress.

Is it the most important thing about him?
Is it the main reason she loves him?

Yes tell them at the start but surely say "he's got a great smile", "he makes me laugh", "we can talk for hours" first.

Namechangenoidea · 23/12/2022 08:26

The problem I have is they perceive themselves to be these huge victims. The only thing that has happened to them is the newspapers are writing not nice stuff about them. ALL they had to do was stop reading them or taking any notice of them. Many celebrities have been through this. They are not huge victims, they do not need netfix
documentaries and book deals to write their victim story.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 23/12/2022 08:30

Oh look, there hasn't been one of these threads for six hours of least!

So wonderful of you to fix this, OP.

Thefriendlyone · 23/12/2022 08:32

What a horrible thread, pitting two women against each other, and deriding Kate for having any agency in her own life. It’s quite sickening.

meghan and harry are selling royal gossip. Not even accurate royal gossip. That’s his family for gods sake. His family. No matter what they have failed to do in terms of “protecting Meghan “ he’s monetising it and selling stories on them.

both women are adults, with agency on their own lives . You don’t need to put one woman down to big up another.

your thread is horrible

Autumnisclose · 23/12/2022 08:35

No 11 year old is an 'activist and leader '. I have no issue with Meghan, but what exactly was she and activist of and how

Skiingonagreen · 23/12/2022 09:14

marcopront · 23/12/2022 03:11

@Skiingonagreen

Meghan is extremely well educated, was an activist & leader since she was 11 but had no education on the British "class system" which while totally ridiculous in this day & age is something Harry should have insisted on

Why couldn't Harry have educated her himself?

He giggles like a 6 year old when he explains how he didn't tell her what to do when meeting the queen.

Yes good point, I thought the same myself.

I can tell from Meghan working on wheel of fortune and suits she was raised to be an activist 🙄

Stop pitting the women against each other, they are very different people.

I'm not pitting them against each other. I'm just saying their from entirely different backgrounds & their formative years were very different. It was always well known that the Middleton's were very aspirational for their children.

Of course she did, social climbing at its finest. Have Kate and Pippa the bright young things ever done a days work ??

JubileeTrifle · 23/12/2022 09:19

She is smart and wanted to be an activist…so she married a dumb prince. And yes I do think Harry is a bit ‘nice but dim’.

Also they spend an awful lot of their time slagging off the RF. Not activism. Like Michelle O said, when they go low you go high. They need to learn that.
