I'm on day 4 slept better last night. Still can't taste or smell anything. COVID tests negative , I've been having cough syrup and paracetamol. Wondering when I'll be feeling better!!!?? Hopefully in time for Christmas.

I've been ill for a few days. Thumping headache, hackingcough, high temp. Tested negative for Covid.
Genuinely interested why so many are going to the GP. Even if you are diagnosed with the flu, what can they prescribe to help?
Not that I could get an appointment these days!

Treated it as a viral illness but then got viral tonsillitis but didn't get better - ended up on two sets of antibiotics, virus gave me fatigue and racing heart. Mild chest infection now so on antibiotics again.

Mostly econsult, three gp visits, on hospital assessment for possible blood clot.

Hughsrunning · 22/12/2022 15:41

One hospital assessment I mean

That sounds nasty.
I am feeling worse today and the hacking cough is worse.
I won't rule out the GP if my chest doesn't improve - although it's nigh on impossible to be seen.

Arrived in UK 3 days ago.
now full on flu.
leg pains really really severe .. paracetamol plus ref ibuprofen didn’t touch. Also severe headache , temperature 38 plus, shivery, diarrhoea and cough… coughed so much I pooped my pants 🙄
Last night I felt so dreadful but I drank about 5 big glasses apple juice diluted with water and that helped the leg pain but not headache.
it made my covid infection in July seem like tiddlywinks!

bakewellbride · 23/12/2022 14:30

I feel terrible too op. Weak, achey, exhausted and I had an uncontrollable bout of vomiting. I look grey, yesterday my baby took one look at me and cried - my appearance frightened her. It's just awful. I'm desperate to be better for Christmas. Hope everyone gets well soon Flowers

BlueG123 · 23/12/2022 15:21

I had it 3 weeks ago and am still coughing. The first day I had it I felt so rough at one point I texted a friend to check up if she didn't hear from me every hour!
I recovered from phase 1 fairly quickly. Phase 2 was 10 days of lingering tickly cough. Phase 3 triggered my asthma plus felt like my lungs were full of liquid for 4-5 days. Now onto Phase 4 which is mild fever and coughing yellow phlegm heading towards a chest infection.
My pelvic floor is currently non existent due to all the coughing. Wearing pads. I feel so attractive!

It's Influenza A. My teen son was so ill that we were worried about meningitis (he had photophobia and sore neck), and 111 sent us to hopsital. They did tests and told us it was the current strain of flu. We all caught it a few days later (and I'd had my flu jab 2 months ago!).

Never been so ill - well, since I last had flu over the Millennium celebrations!

Started with a sore throat, sniffles and bad headache, then just got worse from there!

Relentless deep hacking cough - all day and all night
Nausea and sickness (for 1 day, which was random!)
Conjunctivitis
Ears feeling full to bursting
Sinusitis
Endless green snot.
Insomnia
Loss of appetite & loss of sense of smell
Just feeling utterly wiped out

Using a pulse oximeter, I saw my blood oxygen falling, and heart racing. After 10 days of this joy, it turned into a chest infection and I was given antibiotics which knocked the chest infection on the head. Still feeling lethargic, though, and I've pulled muscles in my chest from coughing so much...

NeverTooLateToSing · 23/12/2022 15:47

I forgot the fever and chills... either burning up or freezing cold, shaking uncontrollably whilst hugging a hot water bottle...

I've had the flu jab but sounds similar still very congested, I've had the runs today to add to this lovely illness. Very fatigued , weak , still loss sense of smell and taste. Very chesty. I keep sleeping on and off. Still not managed a shower just been using wipes yuck.

I'm meant to be hosting my parents and uncle.
Told my mum about the cough that won't shift when they visited briefly yesterday - with masks-. But having had it for most of December and it just being morning and night we figured it was nearly done... They left.

One hour later I went to bed coughing more than previously and with sinusitis down one side of my face. Woke up today, achy, tired and still with sinusitis and now a slight temperature.

I've had the Covid jabs I'm entitled to (last one might have been May though), and a flu jab in September. But I work in a primary school...

Unless I wake up right as rain tomorrow, Christmas with them will be postponed.

checkedcloth · 23/12/2022 21:13

I’m day 4. Feel worse than ever tonight, shivers and sweaty. Headache, sore chest.

supposed to be hosting on Christmas Day - cannot even imagine how I will be able to do anything.

need to do a final shop in the morning too.

I could cry with frustration and feeling so dreadful

Out of internet if someone in your household had it, how long did it take for you to come down with it?

My son started with it 10 days ago and I'm bracing myself for me to get it any day soon!

My MIL got it four days after visiting us when my son was ill (we came down with it the next day). So you might be in the clear?

Justellingthetruth · 24/12/2022 14:03

@Fifi00

finally after nearly three weeks I feel better

Justellingthetruth · 24/12/2022 14:45

@MarmiteCoriander

thats it exactly as you describe.
now after nearly three weeks only small cough in morning.

Two nights ago was my first night not waking up coughing so you are nearly through it

6 days in and feeling awful. Sore throat, headache, body aches and shivers can't get warm despite heating on, full of snot too. Also pregnant and still very sick at 16weeks - and a poorly toddler to boot with a DH away at work.

AND supposed to be hosting Sunday - I haven't done a thing :-(

Ye gods, that's far too much! I hope you have someone to give you a hand ...

here in this household too, but I hope the recent Covid gives me a break ...

I had Covid recently too and now I've got this.

Flu people, are you still ill? I’m really struggling. My son (who kindly shared it with me) was ill for 5 days, improving a lot on the 5th day and since then has been fine but still has a cough. I, on the other hand, am on day 8, it peaked on day 4 and has just…stayed that bad. I’m not getting better at all. But as it’s not getting worse and I don’t have a high temperature I don’t think I can have an infection. I don’t know what to do to make it better for myself. I’m constantly dosed up with everything but it’s ruined Christmas and I’m still completely floored by it.

SnarkyBag · 26/12/2022 09:33

@Underroad Yes I’m about two weeks in a still don’t feel right. I can function ok and don’t need pain killers but I don’t feel properly well.

I didn’t test positive for covid but it feels like the same post viral fatigue I had when I did have Covid although that took about 8 weeks to recover from so I’m hoping this is not as bad.

DS had it and bounced back after three days!

frankie001 · 26/12/2022 10:18

I’m exhausted and have had to leave my parents early. Temp has not been below 40 for over 12 hours, even with paracetamol and bruphen. Shivering one moment, sweating buckets the next. Have had cough, was sick this morning, foggy head and the body aches, ouch.

LapinR0se · 26/12/2022 10:40

This is me
Started on Friday 23rd with sore throat

Hoarse voice

Productive cough with blood-stained phlegm

Profuse sweating

Wheezing

LeonoraFlorence · 26/12/2022 10:46

We do. DD aged 7 has had it for a week now and gradually the rest of us have caught it. She has had a high temperature (past 40) every night, took her to doctor who said it was a virus and to just keep giving calpol etc. I’ve been giving her it for almost a week now. Other DDs have varying symptoms too.
I then started feeling unwell last night, even my toes were sore. DH is the only one who has avoided it so far.
Hope everyone feels better asap.

I’m on day 18 and still not totally over it - no appetite, really bad headaches, coughing up unspeakable gunk, etc.
OH is on day 23 and last night was the first time he slept all night without coughing so much he retched.

As you’re on day 8 you’ll start to feel better around day 10, then it’ll come back with a vengeance around day 12. Everyone I’ve spoken to has followed this pattern.

I don’t know what it is but it’s far worse than when we had Covid.

rubydoobydoo · 26/12/2022 16:15

Day 9 now - day 4 was definitely the worst!

It sort of comes in waves now. I could hardly talk for about 4 days and sometimes when I tried it was only audible to the cats!

Still have limited energy, food isn't that nice but my appetite has come back slightly. The stuff I'm coughing up is looking a bit less brown/fluorescent green too. Hoping the very gradual improvements keep coming - I miss the gym!

Fifi00 · 26/12/2022 16:33

Think it's day 9 , still very fatigued and my nose keeps running. I've got a sore ear deafness from blowing my nose 😩. I've been out to Sainsbury's for a little while, got tired and wanted to come home. I went for Christmas dinner yesterday I was ok nose was running and felt tired. Feel quite a bit better but definitely not 100 there. Food tastes a bit better now got a little more of an appetite.
