I'm on day 4 slept better last night. Still can't taste or smell anything. COVID tests negative , I've been having cough syrup and paracetamol. Wondering when I'll be feeling better!!!?? Hopefully in time for Christmas.

I've had 4x covid vaccines and did have the flu vaccine this year. I've been lucky and not have had covid to my knowledge, nor been ill with even a cold in over 4yrs.

DH got a sore throat, then 2 days later I did also. For me it progressed to nasal congestion, initially a tickly, dry cough and lethargy. I then got a thick, phlegmy cough and conjunctivitis. The cough has eased to mainly morning and nights. No more phlegm but tickly again and once it starts is hard to stop. This has been over nearly 2 weeks.

Honey and lemon in hot water is more effective in suppressing a tickly cough BTW than expensive cough mixtures. I worked in a unit which researched the effectiveness of these.

People we have been in contact with have also had similar, but some have stayed in bed for 3 days. I only took 1 day off work and did sleep 1/2 the day which is unheard of for me. I've done 5 covid tests and all neg!

How did you persuade your gp to give you antibs?

Didn't even speak to the doc, was a nurse over the phone. Just said I had typical sinus symptoms and feel unwell, pounding throbbing head, mucus, blocks face etc. She prescribed them and sent the prescription to my local pharmacy.

Day 4 here too, thought I was feeling better yesterday but woke up feeling absolutely shocking and couldn't stop shivering. Eventually managed to drag myself out of bed and dose up and feeling slightly better now but still horrible.
I also have a stabbing pain in my back when I breathe and am coughing up foul phlegmy stuff.

I've had the flu and covid jabs, and tested negative for covid so it's just a really nasty virus going around- hope everyone else feels better soon!

The stabbing pains scared me so much when I had it few weeks back. Thought my lungs would burst from the coughing!

LifeIsntAllDiamondsAndRoseButItShouldBe · 21/12/2022 22:51

Yes! Day four and finally stopped shivering. But have also developed an ear infection and so have the added agony of that along with my burning chest and bright green snot.

All the nice outings I had booked for this week have been cancelled. I can barely walk to the kitchen and the DC are surviving off of random freezer combos or toast.

It has hit all of us after my son bought it home from nursery and it wiped out 3/4 of them there. Out of 30 kids on Monday 7 were in. All the parents have it too. It's bloody brutal and super fucking contagious.

Could it be a new strain of covid that the tests aren't picking up on? 😟

Overthebow · 21/12/2022 22:56

Yes had it for three weeks now, just can’t shake it. Missed more work this month than I have in the last few years put together.

might be, might not be but if it is then half the population have got it out the way already!

Logicalreasoning · 21/12/2022 23:06

One of the guys t work has had it for almost 14 days, another one is reaching 10, dd has had the cough for about 2 weeks now... DP has got a cold now, he seems alright at the moment, just a blocked nose so far. I’m praying I don’t catch it as I am pivotal to Christmas prep... I don’t have time to feel ill.
I had the Aussie flu back when it was rife and that lasted 23 days... don’t want a repeat of that 😩

Fifi00 · 22/12/2022 00:24

I've never caught COVID but this is a nasty beast. I don't regularly get ill but it's the worst I've felt in a long time. Maybe it is a new strain it's incredibly infectious whatever it is my sister and my sister in law have it and I haven't seen them face to face.

Day 14 here and no sign of it letting up - if anything the cough has got worse today. I’ve had a few cycles of feeling better/like I’m over it only for it to return with a vengeance; I was actually contemplating death on days 11 and 12.

I’ve got more chance of an audience with the Pope than a GP appt for antibiotics (tho I don’t think I need them anyway) so I’ve just got to try and tough it out a bit longer. From speaking to others it’s not unusual for the cough to drag on for 4-5 weeks 😒.

user375242 · 22/12/2022 00:45

I'm on day 12. Twice I've thought I was finally over it then bam, back out the blue full force.

Justellingthetruth · 22/12/2022 01:14

@Fifi00

had for 17 days still coughing

Staniel · 22/12/2022 03:42

Week 3 here. It's a relief to read the thread tbh. What the fuck is this thing?

Bluerisotto · 22/12/2022 04:39

Had it 2-3 weeks ago. I'd had flu shot and Covid booster back in October.
Throat was on fire, couldn't get up till 3pm, just kept falling asleep, temperature up 3°, when I finally managed to get up to get a drink and toast I felt sick, dizzy and almost passed out. I really thought it must be Covid but kept testing negative. (I had Covid twice in 2020 and it was way milder than this was!) For two days kept having sudden sweats, it was awful.

Recovered from this flu thing quickly but then a cough /chest thing started which dragged on and triggered asthma so ended up needing steroids.

I know a few people who have it (not my fault, haven't seen them for almost 3-4 weeks!!)

It's brutal isn't it? Keep taking paracetamol and stuff to ease congestion.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/12/2022 05:28

Had a bad cough about three weeks ago that turned into a chest infection so was given antibiotics. Just got over that when my seasonal heavy cold started as soon as we broke up. I stayed in and tried to get over it. Tested positive for covid yesterday so that's my family Christmas gone!

Desiredeffect · 22/12/2022 05:46

I thought I had that but turned out to be covid

OldTinHat · 22/12/2022 06:07

Had a suspicious throat tickle yesterday and have now woken up an hour ago with sandpaper instead of a throat, throbbing ears and aching chest.

I'm supposed to be travelling to stay with family on Monday, haven't been ill in over five years and just want to cry!

KangarooKenny · 22/12/2022 06:09

I feel like I’m starting with something, slowly getting a sore throat, and three people I know tested positive yesterday. One of these people works in a care home that is riddled with it.

Typo22 · 22/12/2022 06:36

Can anyone suggest a miracle cure for blocked sinuses? I'm on day 7 and yesterday the headache and toothache from blocked sinuses kicked in, woken up this morning and it's worse 😔 I've got a spray, tried hot shower, head over bowl of steaming water, sinus massage, nothing takes the pain away! I can't take ibuprofen and Paracetamol isn't having any effect.

So bloody miserable now.

I have antibiotics at the moment for sinusitis, it's the only thing that shifts it with me. I had a headache for 3 days....hardly slept, it's so debilitating isn't it.

Vallmo47 · 22/12/2022 09:14

It’s brutal OP.

Had a nasty cough for 6 weeks, eventually diagnosed with a chest infection, cleared that, DD then caught it. She was prescribed penicillin which cured hers, but after a week or so started feeling poorly again, then husband brought home covid. Now DD and I are both feeling rubbish and husband is recovering from covid so we will all be testing Saturday to see whether it’s a Christmas alone or not. It’s never ending. 😷😷

WorriedMillie · 22/12/2022 09:14

OH and I have it, we pretty much went down with it at the same time. Mum (who lives with us) is on chemo and it’s been her worst immunocompromised week, so she’s been keeping out of our way and using Vicks first defence, which has served her well in the past. DD (non germy!) has been away staying with a friend and is now sticking with my mum!
falalalala….

lobsterkiller · 22/12/2022 09:29

Yup, starting with something, seems to be more of a head cold but I am feeling sick at the smell of chocolate....this has never, ever happened before in my life.

MrsPutnamNaomiDarling · 22/12/2022 09:44

I'm still coughing and now aching. I fear Christmas with family wont be happening. It would have been our first one all together since 2019. I'd better warn DB and DSIL 😥
