I'm on day 4 slept better last night. Still can't taste or smell anything. COVID tests negative , I've been having cough syrup and paracetamol. Wondering when I'll be feeling better!!!?? Hopefully in time for Christmas.

Had a bad cough about three weeks ago that turned into a chest infection so was given antibiotics. Just got over that when my seasonal heavy cold started as soon as we broke up. I stayed in and tried to get over it. Tested positive for covid yesterday so that's my family Christmas gone!

So sorry💐

PatriciaPattersonGimlin · 22/12/2022 11:25

I have found that taking capsules with hot chilli powder really loosens the stuff.

I have had this for three weeks now. You could build an extension with the stuff I have shifted over the last two.

Yup, starting with something, seems to be more of a head cold but I am feeling sick at the smell of chocolate....this has never, ever happened before in my life.

I’ve got Covid at the moment- NHS so have tests. Otherwise feels like a bad cold but I’ve completely lost my sweet tooth. And I’m usually a chocolate fiend! Maybe it’s a new symptom 😀
Although I do seem to be making up for it with cheese. Hope everyone starts feeling better soon!

Also have the terrible viral cold thing right now. Ended up in A&E last night after having an asthma attack and among other things they swabbed me for flu and it came up negative. The nurse said the cold that is going around is a really awful one and lots of people are very ill indeed.

SnarkyBag · 22/12/2022 11:34

I’m mildly relieved to read that others have had it drag on so long with periods of thinking you were on the mend. I’m nearly two weeks in and although still tired and a bit achy thought I was mostly over it. Have woken up today feeling dreadful again, pounding head and knackered 😩. Had a tooth removed yesterday too so now can’t drink any hot drinks, scared to eat as the thought of risking infection or knocking the blood clot off is terrifying me. Can’t face the idea of something else in my body feeling shite. Hadn’t anticipated the discomfort following the tooth coming out. I’m sure I just carried in as normal when I had my wisdom tooth out.

feeling very pathetic at the minute can’t seem to shake myself to get up and get on with it.

BonjourPetitPois · 22/12/2022 11:48

Yes 😩 picked it up from the in laws at the weekend. Started with a bit of a cough on Monday, progressed to full blown temp, snot etc on Tuesday, and then awful headache and sinus pain overnight last night. Have never had sinus pain in my life, it's horrendous. Now DH is coming down with it. DC seem fine amazingly (and are creating havoc while we lie around). My parents are meant to be coming for Xmas but my DF has a condition that means he needs to avoid viruses at all costs. Really hoping we are better in a few days!

BonjourPetitPois · 22/12/2022 11:49

Also there is a widespread shortage of cold and flu remedies round where we live. Chemist says they sell out as soon as they get more stock!

Day 4 here too, thought I was feeling better yesterday but woke up feeling absolutely shocking and couldn't stop shivering. Eventually managed to drag myself out of bed and dose up and feeling slightly better now but still horrible.
I also have a stabbing pain in my back when I breathe and am coughing up foul phlegmy stuff.

I've had the flu and covid jabs, and tested negative for covid so it's just a really nasty virus going around- hope everyone else feels better soon!

I'm exactly the same 😕

ChocoFudge · 22/12/2022 12:22

I'm on day 6 now, thought I was on the mend this morning but now I'm back in bed with a pounding headache. Why do my eyes ache?!

IWantItThatWay002 · 22/12/2022 12:23

Currently on day 4. Came down with illness all of a sudden Monday night. Started as a mild cough & terrible sore throat. Woke up Tuesday feeling like I'd been hit by a bus. Fever, chills, blinding headache, nausea, extreme dizziness, exhaustion, worse throat & sweating. Pretty much slept the whole day. Couldn't get up for a pee or to get a drink.

Spent the last 3 days in bed. Not seen my DC since Tues morning as I don't want them to catch this. It's changed this afternoon. Now it's feeling more like a head cold. Very blocked, runny nose, horrendous tickly cough, sneezing, streaming eyes which I find hard to stay open. I always end up with Sinusitis after a cold/hay fever so off to my GP this afternoon to see if they can help.

I have never felt so poorly in my life.

It's your sinuses! Day 5 I've slept on the sofa as couldn't face going upstairs. Slept well last night probably the cough syrup. I'm going to try eat more today. I keep meaning to book a GP appointment about my weight it's plummeted since I've had this illness and I've already got issues with nutrition keep waking after 8am so it's too late to book an appointment.

We're on day 7 here. Started as a running nose & tiredness last Thursday. The cold dried up & then it all came back with a vengeance & full blown flu symptoms. Coughing, snot, headache, exhaustion, sore glands & look like the walking dead! Nothing prepped for Christmas & been in bed for 6 days now! Really hope it goes soon.

pastapestoparmesan · 22/12/2022 12:28

I’m on day 7, still feel like crap. Completely lost my voice and omg the coughing is something else! Bonus is I’ve lost nearly half a stone as have no appetite at all.

ShesThunderstorms · 22/12/2022 12:30

I'm on day 9. Started out typical flu symptoms- DP had to take a day off work last week to have the kids as I couldn't lift my head off the pillow. Had awful aches and pains, was going hot and cold. Thankfully that part had mostly stopped now, other than quite an achey back still. I haven't been able to eat properly and when I do, I have a really dodgy tummy (tmi sorry!) and I've got a horrendous phlegmy cough too. I don't feel half as bad as I did last week now though. But I'm not right.
Mum and dad have come down with it now and they're meant to be hosting Christmas Day 😩

rubydoobydoo · 22/12/2022 12:37

Mine started with a sore throat that looked yellow and fuzzy but that's gone now - also spent two days with my teeth feeling like they were being pulled back into my gums.

Day 5 now and feeling better than yesterday so far, I've been marinating in Vicks Vaporub overnight. It hurts when I cough and my nose is still dripping.

Haven't had much appetite the last few days either - everything just tastes of snot.

rubydoobydoo · 22/12/2022 12:40

I posted that before I actually tried to talk, and I currently sound MUCH worse than I feel 😅

Marmunia10661975 · 22/12/2022 12:53

So many people are suffering - and all the people I know who have it are fully vaccinated for Covid with a flu jab! So much for the vaccines - they really work 🙄 I haven't had any vaccines since 2006 and have been completely fine all year (Covid a mild headache and was positive for 4 days).

IWantItThatWay002 · 22/12/2022 14:35

Just got home from my GP appointment. He has diagnosed the flu & I'm now back off to bed as this has exhausted me.

He did tell me that I should start to feel better about 5 days in so only 2 more to go... We'll see! Feel so sorry for myself & missing DC but no way do I want them to catch this off me.

Cherryblossoms85 · 22/12/2022 14:46

Day 7 here. Main problem is nose bleeds though, endless, both nostrils seem to alternate! Going to have to cancel my blood donation for the 3rfbtime this year!! Used to get no colds, must've had about 10 this year.

hellosunshineagainxxx · 22/12/2022 14:55

So I have and tested negative for covid until day 6 so sorry but probably covid

middleager · 22/12/2022 15:07

I've been ill for a few days. Thumping headache, hackingcough, high temp. Tested negative for Covid.
Genuinely interested why so many are going to the GP. Even if you are diagnosed with the flu, what can they prescribe to help?
Not that I could get an appointment these days!

CeriB82 · 22/12/2022 15:32

Out of 7 in my office, 5 are ill. My best friend has been in bed since Sunday. She is never ill and totally a health and fitness freak and this has knocked her.

We all went out on Friday (Christmas party) and so far (fingers crossed) im absolutely fine!

if i do fall ill, no one will starve as ive done my food shop!

Noonesperfect · 22/12/2022 15:35

Yes I've heard lots of people testing negative for covid at first and then several days into the illness some are then testing positive.

Hughsrunning · 22/12/2022 15:37

5 weeks here. Finally on the mend. Had no appetite, lost some weight. Neverbloodyending.

WeyAyeMan · 22/12/2022 15:39

My eldest started with it a week ago, he's still coughing.

On day 5 here it's easily slightly, youngest two are still coughing and needing regular calpol.

I'm so sick of pissing myself from coughing so hard I'm walking around with maternity pads on!
