Most heatbreaking scenes on tv

What are the scenes that made you feel real emotion or even cry when they aired?

I’ll start with

Glee. When Karofsky feels suicide is his only option after being outed and Blaine is singing cough syrup as he gets himself dressed. The emotion Karofsky shows hits hard.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The spies goodbye. It always makes me well up no matter how many times I see it.

The 100. When Monty has left a message to Clarke talking about how he and Harper didn’t cryo themselves and instead lived a life and had a son.

Lucifer. The end episode. Says it all

Too many in the This is England series to name. Shane Meadows is insanely talented.

And when Pratt dies - the bit with the tears rolling down his face - gets me every time

Manchester by the Sea

Joyce Summers.

Yes!

Not only Buffy’s reaction of mommy, but Anya. Anya who cares about herself and Xander and is genuinely confused as to why Joyce is no longer there.

Both of these really had me too!

Madamecastafiore · 21/12/2022 15:00

Rachel dying in Cold Feet.

Just watched the last 2 episodes of Happy Valley S2, as S3 is beginning new year and I'd forgotten most detail. It's very sad. Don't often cry watching TV.

NerrSnerr · 21/12/2022 15:03

I agree with Joyce Summers.

The one that stuck with me for years is Madge Bishop.

Moonflower12 · 21/12/2022 15:04

@Madamecastafiore
I came on to say that. So shocking and unexpected.

EdithGrantham · 21/12/2022 15:09

Only Fools and Horses when Cassandra loses the baby.

Courtjobby · 21/12/2022 15:10

Also agree with mark Greene's death in er.

So many moments in This is Us, Miguel realising he can't look after Rebecca anymore broke my heart , but I shed many tears during that show

AndrewGloubermanisaperv · 21/12/2022 15:12

The one in Eastenders when Ronnie Mitchell finally finds out who her adopted daughter is who then goes to have an emotional reunion only for the daughter to be hit by a car and killed right in front of her.

HeidiWhole · 21/12/2022 15:12

Agree with PP - lots in This Is England

Derek - scene with the dog Sad

LuluBlakey1 · 21/12/2022 15:15

When Barbara takes ill with sepsis and dies in Call the Midwife - with Tom and Phyllis next to her.

horseymum · 21/12/2022 15:15

Going over the top out of the trenches in Blackadder, the single most affecting piece of tv ' drama' for me. The clip was on Twitter recently. It is all the more powerful after the sarcastic comedy of all the previous series.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 21/12/2022 15:15

The Futurama episode Jurassic Bark. When we learn that Fry's dog Seymour waited for Fry, after his disappearance, every single day for the next 12 years, until he died. While an oblivious Fry assumes he had a happy life. Can't even type that without tearing up. Can't even look at a picture. Kills me still.

GordonBennett71 · 21/12/2022 15:18

When Rodney married Cassandra and then they left the do at the Nags Head. The room cleared and Del was left alone with his thoughts while Simply Red's Holding back the years played. Cried when it first aired and cry every time i see it. Brilliant writing.

Oh God this. I hate it so much and have never got over it. It's the worst thing I have ever seen.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 21/12/2022 15:22

Afterlife. So many scenes in afterlife. Gut wrenching sobs.

Handmaids Tale too. So many scenes in that.

Not so much upset sobbing but raw, breathtaking, unable to breath for a period… The Red Wedding GOT. Holy holy shitballs. That is probably one of the most powerful things I have ever witnessed on TV.
Just couldn’t speak, no words would come out. Nothing.
Pure genius.
