What are the scenes that made you feel real emotion or even cry when they aired?

I’ll start with

Glee. When Karofsky feels suicide is his only option after being outed and Blaine is singing cough syrup as he gets himself dressed. The emotion Karofsky shows hits hard.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The spies goodbye. It always makes me well up no matter how many times I see it.

The 100. When Monty has left a message to Clarke talking about how he and Harper didn’t cryo themselves and instead lived a life and had a son.

Lucifer. The end episode. Says it all

Also, Hayley Hotchners death in Criminal Minds.
And the subsequent finding Jack "working the case".
Hotch and the whole team listening to it happen on the phone. Makes me tear up thinking about it.

Nicola Walker's fate in Unforgotten.

Ohhh that was also a terrible one😭

Too many in the This is England series to name. Shane Meadows is insanely talented.

I came on to see this. Nothing has even come close for me since in terms of raw emotion. I think for me the most emotional scene was the letter Combo read to the parole board - when he says as well as asking for forgiveness from other people, he’s also learned to forgive the people that have hurt him. For some reason it had me crying like a baby! Also when Lol is having her stomach pumped and is having a horrible series of flashbacks over the most painful moments of her life that led her there.

The ‘Sleepytime’ episode of Bluey

Same. Get me everytime

Don't laugh but I remember being really upset by Go Forth Young Meowth in the original Pokemon series. How he's an outcast because he can talk, and his one true love is stolen by someone else. I was about 9 and totally devastated!

Bye Bye Butterfree never left me either 😢

Tripsabroad · 21/12/2022 18:53

Demelza finding out about Julia in Poldark. I was pretty heartbroken about Francis too.

The moment of realisation in the Inside No 9 episode The 12 Days of Christine.

This. My god so so sad. I’m welling up now just remembering the look on her face as it dawned on her 😩

70sShmeventies · 21/12/2022 19:00

I also found The English incredibly sad. No one got a happy ending.

Bit of a curveball but footballer Ian Wright re-meeting an old teacher of his who meant a lot to him.

I'm not a football fan and know nothing about IW but this is an extraordinary real life scene.

Just watch his face. So many emotions.

I love this too , the way Ian removed his cap , such a lovely sign of respect.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 21/12/2022 19:03

I Daniel Blake....the whole film is absolutely heartbreaking.

70sShmeventies · 21/12/2022 19:04

Oh! And the Snowman. Grief and the loss of innocence. I have to hold back tears when my 3year old asks where he has gone.

Coxspurplepippin · 21/12/2022 19:05

Roger's death in His Dark Materials. I will hate James McAvoy forever for that.
Leo McGarry's death in The West Wing - such a loyal friend and no-one even notices he's missing when he has a heart attack in the woods.

MostTacticalNameChange · 21/12/2022 19:08

The election scene in Derry Girls set to the Cranberries. It wasn't 'sad', just so momentous and moving and still so recent and real. Freaked the DC out crying.

caz114 · 21/12/2022 19:09

The Waltons- where Mary Ellen sees the soldier in the distance and doesn't know if her husband has survived the war or not.
Most of Handmaids Tale
Mark Greene's death in ER
and another one Blackadder's end

Simonjt · 21/12/2022 19:20

Years and years, when the immigration officer(?) asks Viktor if he is alone, he has to answer “I don’t know” because Daniel is dead, but he is there on the beach with him.

Pandoralovegood · 21/12/2022 18:35

Erin's dad waiting for them outside the gig in Derry Girls.

The end of that episode and the finale with the vote montage both made me sob.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 21/12/2022 19:29

Bit different to most of these but there was a Panorama episode called “Poor America” that was about the lives of Americans on the poverty line.

There is one bit where a bloke has set up a free medical medical clinic and people have queued through the night for it. As he lets people in one woman just stops, grabs his hand, looks him in the eye and says “thank you”. He pauses for a minute as though he realises just how important what he is doing is and then he just says to her “thank you for coming”.

Can’t explain why but that breaks my heart every time I think of it.

Toomanysquishmallows · 21/12/2022 19:29

The episode of “ band of brothers “ about concentration camps . It’s heartbreaking.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 21/12/2022 19:44

Mike Flanagan has a way with sad scenes!

Haunting of Hill House..Nell..the end episode. The music

Haunting of Bly Manor. Hannah and her 'you are hannah' scene and the ending of the series in general

Midnight Mass..when they all start singing.

Lost..not Penny's boat and Jin and Sun. Again sad music!

JimJamJolly · 21/12/2022 19:48

Nana moon - EastEnders.

I was heavily pregnant and very hormonal, but sobbed for hours!

mamabear715 · 21/12/2022 19:49

Can't think of any.. I must be a cold, cold woman! ;-)

When Rodney married Cassandra and then they left the do at the Nags Head. The room cleared and Del was left alone with his thoughts while Simply Red's Holding back the years played. Cried when it first aired and cry every time i see it. Brilliant writing.

This scene always makes me cry too. That show had some brilliant emotional scenes.

Ginger1982 · 21/12/2022 20:02

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 21/12/2022 20:07

cheshirecatssmile · 21/12/2022 20:09

Final episode of six feet under. The family growing old and dying. Beautifully done
