We're going right up until the 23rd this year - this seems bonkers! Are we an exception or quite usual?

Ours finished Friday and back on 3rd.
I much prefer it when they finish later / back later.

nic1079 · 20/12/2022 10:03

My son finishes lunchtime tomorrow. Back on the 9th January.

Rowthe · 20/12/2022 10:05

My older ones school is breaking today.

Younger last friday at half 1.

10th and 14th December. (Independent, London)

LadyDanburysHat · 20/12/2022 10:08

22nd for us. But I have a teacher friend who is 23rd.

SlipperyLizard · 20/12/2022 10:10

My eldest finishes on Friday 23rd at lunch time, youngest Thursday as Friday is (sensibly) an inset. Who on Earth at the council thought these were good dates?

Ricco12 · 20/12/2022 10:18

Scotland

Last day 23rd and back on 9th

lbnblbnb · 20/12/2022 10:20

State, Norfolk.
Finished Friday 16th.

Pasadenadreaming · 20/12/2022 10:21

We're back on the 9th too. DD isn't complaining as she loves school but it's all been feeling a bit manic and the late finish makes Christmas travel tricky too. I imagine a few will be pulling kids out early.

Tomorrow and back on 4th here so a fairly short holiday.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 20/12/2022 10:24

Already broken up. Broke up on Thursday 15th. Back on Tuesday 3rd.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/12/2022 10:24

Mine finish today, then go back on Thurs 5th. Scotland.

Lindy2 · 20/12/2022 10:25

We're in Surrey and we finished last week on Friday thank goodness. The kids seem so much more tired than usual and there's been so much illness. I'm very glad they've got a week to relax before Christmas.

23rd December seems ridiculously late to finish. The 9th January is also a very late return. The beginning of January is generally about getting back into a routine but going back so late really drags that out.

Notellinganyone · 20/12/2022 10:25

Teacher here - finished lunchtime on the 13th back on the fourth. My sympathies for those going right up to the wire - I was on my knees by the end.

We finished last Wednesday but schools in the next county (half a mile up the road) are in until 23rd. I think it’s a shame - the fun stuff is the Christmas build-up not early January - and they will still be tired on Christmas day

I agree. Dd also in school until Christmas Eve. It means we can’t do any Christmas things this week, really annoying. Then she is off early January when she may as well be in school .

Newnamefor2021 · 20/12/2022 10:30

Secondary Friday (23rd) and primary has an inset so Thursday.

RudsyFarmer · 20/12/2022 10:31

Today.

Christmas Eve? That's a Saturday. Do you mean Friday 23rd? Xmas Grin

SinnerBoy · 20/12/2022 10:33

Mine finishes on Friday and is very much outraged.

Last week, Friday. Too early this year, for my liking! They go back on the 2nd of Jan which feels too early as well.

pimlicoanna · 20/12/2022 10:59

Last Friday

Until Christmas Eve, eg Christmas Eve is the first day she gets off.

Abraxan · 20/12/2022 13:12

My school finished on Friday 16th.
No way would we have lasted much longer. Whole school were coming down with bugs and viruses left, right and centre. So much going round with everyone ill.

My nephew doesn't finish until 23rd. I have seen the school's SM posts from today and yesterday and it appears to just be Christmas craft and activities. My sister says it feels madness - the kids are all shattered, ill, and over excited about Christmas and it feels like a waste of school time.

As an adult I like the idea of the week off after Christmas. We finish later next year and have already started to suggest maybe going away for a few days after Christmas for some winter sun, as there'll be enough time before school returns for me.

Sartre · 20/12/2022 13:25

Secondary finished Thursday and primary finished Friday, as did the college I teach at.
