if I was to order tomorrow for next day delivery would you risk it?

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 23:08

@EileenAdler genuinely interested to know why you think I lack common sense. If we need more taxation to support essential services then so be it. FWIW I think the are huge swathes of tax reforms that would negate the need for that, but either way.

Puzzledstill · 19/12/2022 23:09

Italiandreams · 19/12/2022 23:07

@Puzzledstill and I would support your right to do what was necessary to ensure you had decent working conditions and they were not just changed at an employers whim. Do you really not think employees should have rights? That an employer should be able to just change their working hours whenever they want?

@Italiandreams I’d simply find a new job the whole of the country are suffering the cost of living

RoseAndRose · 19/12/2022 23:11

It’s ridiculous going on strike at the busiest time of year

Effective though. It's designed to have maximum impact so people sit up and think

But also risky - they will lose public support if they become the bad guys who ruined Christmas.

If they meant to get attention by threatening Christmas, but then (with due warning about earlier last-posting dates, which of course have an impact but one that can be mitigated) pull a cat out of a bag to save deliveries in time for Christmas, then I think they may have miscalculated

Carlycat · 19/12/2022 23:12

The Bleach London one I use on my brassy hair is purple in colour but the end result is quite subtle and just takes the brassiness away. It's really reasonable so worth a try. There's also a peachy toner which is lovely. If you don't like the effect à clarifying shampoo will tone it down. Good luck! Flowers

Prisonpocket · 19/12/2022 23:12

What toner is it you're after? Perhaps we can help you find one that doesn't deliver by RM. Apologies on behalf of all the MNers derailing your thread. Maybe we can support a sister instead?

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 23:13

@Prisonpocket she's not supporting the sisters who are striking though?

Italiandreams · 19/12/2022 23:13

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll , good idea. Let’s hope all the nurses and paramedics, teachers etc have the same idea.

In fairness I get the feeling it’s what the big bosses at Royal Mail want, they want to employ new staff on contracts that pay less, have different hours and do things like drive their own cars to deliver etc. it will be a very different company - fine but it’s not a job that people signed up for and they have to be given the right to fight for their working conditions. I would hate to live in a country that did not allow employees to do that.

Readaboutyourself · 19/12/2022 23:14

Puzzledstill · 19/12/2022 23:01

@Readaboutyourself the head honcho is for sure bloody strike in December

Eh? He’s sat on his millions.

BluebirdRobin · 19/12/2022 23:14

Google doesn't seem to give a clear answer. Other than pay, what are the working conditions they are striking against?

@Carlycat silly question is the peach one made for a shade of blonde or for a peach tone? x

@Sugarplumfairy65 not for the public it isn't and not really for them as I now will not order anything that uses royal mail for delivery and many companies will prob shy away

Also not sent a single xmas card by royal mail this year and neither have any family pr friends ,we have all just put off

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 23:16

Maybe we can support a sister instead?

But that also has the unintended consequence of not supporting a lot of elderly, disabled and other vulnerable people who may simply not have the option of going out to shops and rely on deliveries to get the items they can't manage without - this goes far beyond just hair toner.

healthadvice123 · 19/12/2022 23:17

Apart from letters we and businesses have other options than the royal mail now though, and parcels is what they need to make money

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll i wish I hadn’t mentioned hair toner now

OP posts:
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 23:20

But why, @Puzzledstill ?

Just because it goes far beyond ONLY hair toner in principle, doesn't also mean that it doesn't rightly INCLUDE hair toner.

Notwashingup · 19/12/2022 23:20

I went to collect my post today from the local delivery office. All the letters and cards are in trays not being sent out. The postal workers are only really delivering tracked parcels. There is a huge backlog so it's not guaranteed your parcel will be at your local office yet. You shouldn't really be asking for refunds/duplicate items to be sent as you will receive the item and if it's from a small business, you are costing them money unnecessarily.
I was told managers are making postie's prioritise adverts (the junk mail without an address on) over Christmas cards and letters that have stamps on and that it will take to mid-January to clear all the Christmas cards in the office today.
Postal workers are leaving but the majority stay in the hope that they will win the dispute. While a pay rise is wanted, any postie you meet will tell you they are more concerned with protecting the terms and conditions. Royal Mail are trying to get rid of letter deliveries and be a parcel courier company with owner drivers, annualised hours, no overtime for Sunday's, an attack on sick pay, 10'000 redundancies, closure of collection points, less pay for new starters doing the same job....the list goes on.
Amazon won't take the letter deliveries. They might cherry pick a few easy areas but rural areas will be completely cut off. There is no profit in letters so they don't want them. The USO is under threat, this service provides a delivery to every address in the country 6 days a week for the cost of a stamp by 3pm. Articles for the blind are free (and there is a huge amount of them). The CEO is trying to wriggle out of Saturday letter delivery, stop the A.M delivery slot and have postal workers delivering until 5.30pm, trudging around on foot, door to door in the dark in winter. How are postie's supposed to read address, navigate obstacles, broken gates and hazards when they can't see them?
Postal workers aren't greedy, the CEO earns a postal workers annual wage in 2 weeks. Royal Mail made over £700 million profit last year and gave it to shareholders and the CEO recently had a bonus of £140'000 when he didn't meet any of his targets. £140'000 would buy my house and he got given it for not doing his job properly.
If you order your toner and pay for special delivery, you will receive it next day. You probably will get it if it's tracked. Signed for is a pointless service, it is only traced when sent and when delivered. I doubt there will be a letter delivery service from Royal Mail in the next year which is terrible as my SIL has a greeting card business which won't survive, there are many other businesses that will fail too. It's the end of a 500 year old business, part of the infrastructure of the country and the government aren't doing anything about it. They'll be pissed off when they are handed the letter deliveries back though!

Newmama29 · 19/12/2022 23:20

@Puzzledstill have you tried osmo super silver shampoo? I’ve tried every “silver” shampoo & this works a treat! You can get it on Amazon.

My ds has a job last year at post office , pay wasn't too bad as he was apprentice but on full wage but he had to start at 8 ( he wanted early start, esp sat as does activity in pm) and they had to finish the round no matter how big, although he often didn't
He was told his round used to be a couple of peoples but condensed into one and impossible to do really by managers
He stayed less than a month and moved on
Used to be an early start, early finish job which a lot liked
Just striking now impacts general public too much and pushes to other providers
Strike when its tax return time or something important to goverment

The bleach peach toner gives a delicate warm peach hue. I like to ring the changes with my hair colours! I hope you find one that suits you x
Ps. They were recommended to me by my hairdresser

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 23:26

You shouldn't really be asking for refunds/duplicate items to be sent as you will receive the item and if it's from a small business, you are costing them money unnecessarily.

Plenty of folk fully realise this, but many simply don't have a choice. If it's a cheap-ish and/or non-essential item, people may well be able to (at least temporarily) show solidarity and do without it; but that by no means covers everybody.

The USO is under threat, this service provides a delivery to every address in the country 6 days a week for the cost of a stamp by 3pm.

Sadly, for many, many people, that ship has long sailed.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 19/12/2022 23:33

I do support the strike but I can’t help but think RM are going to do themselves out of a job. I can see companies moving to other delivery options which will mean less work and then redundancies. It’s a very sad situation.
