if I was to order tomorrow for next day delivery would you risk it?

But if it didn't come I still wouldn't think they are dicks. Their CEO is a dick mind

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 22:49

It's not greed to want to be paid enough to support your family.

If they all do as you suggest and 'get different jobs', how will that help the postage situation? And what about nurses? Paramedics? Should they all get different jobs too? Who would be left to care for us then? Such a shortsighted view OP.

EileenAdler · 19/12/2022 22:49

I waited 10 days for a parcel. Lesson learnt, I won't be using Royal Mail for the foreseeable future.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 22:51

it’s greed everyone is suffering the cost of living they need to find new jobs if they are over worked and I simply do think they ruining small businesses

I do always wonder why, when a big company is (rightly or wrongly) claimed to be institutionally appalling to work for, employees nevertheless continue to work for them and don't try to vote with their feet by just leaving and finding something better elsewhere.

What's the point in staying for years in what you consider to be the workplace equivalent of an abusive relationship when there are loads and loads of other employers/potential partners out there?

ABBAsnumberonefan · 19/12/2022 22:53

It’s not just about their pay, it’s also about terms and conditions.

A quick google would help you, but you’re clearly just soaking in sensationalist headlines that have little merit without doing any critical thinking of your own.

All well, have a nice brassy Christmas.

But inflation will continue to rise and so will your tax to pay for all this, possibly by £100 per month. Can you not understand that ?.

That truly forces the big bosses into action, though. If their company/organisation goes under, so do their own very well-paid jobs too.

They do it with customers as well: however much people grumble about how rubbish they may be, as long as they still stay with them, they really don't care. Enough people actually making the break and leaving them is all that will make them sit up and make changes.

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 22:55

@EileenAdler erm yes I can understand it, what gave you the impression that I couldn't?

I'm possibly a bit gloomier than I need to be, the lack of daylight tends to get to me a bit at this time of year!

Tbh I don’t think it really matters what I choose to order… let’s all agree RM are dicks

Not the workers, no.

Italiandreams · 19/12/2022 23:01

I’m trying not to get wound up by this thread but it’s bloody hard! Greed! To be able to keep a roof over their families head due to wages not matching cost of living and change in working conditions causing huge impact on family life and cost of childcare etc They have every right to strike, I know it’s hard on small business but don’t blame the workers for exercising the only option they have left to make a stand. Do you really just expect them to just suck it up ?

A quick google would help you, but you’re clearly just soaking in sensationalist headlines that have little merit without doing any critical thinking of your own.

But what makes them stay - sometimes for years and years? If I were in the habit of going to a restaurant that charged very high prices but treated me consistently rudely, served inedible food and continued to get my order wrong, I would just find an alternative - any alternative that was at least acceptable, even if none of them were perfect.

Doesn't it count as critical thinking for the RM employees to see how terrible their lot has been for a very long time and seek to jump ship? It's not like it's always been wonderful until just recently and RM just need a little 'encouragement' to mend their ways and quickly go back to being brilliant again.

Like much of the country then 🙄

Italiandreams · 19/12/2022 23:07

@Puzzledstill and I would support your right to do what was necessary to ensure you had decent working conditions and they were not just changed at an employers whim. Do you really not think employees should have rights? That an employer should be able to just change their working hours whenever they want?

MrsMontyD · 19/12/2022 23:07

I ordered something in October, paid extra for named day delivery on 20th December, so tomorrow and they despatched it on Friday, absolute madness, why wouldn't they despatch it earlier knowing RM are striking.

It's made it as far as a RM National delivery centre so could be anywhere. I'll be asking for a p&p refund not because of the strike but because they've made no attempt to account for it.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 23:08

don’t blame the workers for exercising the only option they have left to make a stand. Do you really just expect them to just suck it up ?

But it isn't the only option they have. Unless RM is forcing them to remain in their employ (I believe that is cnsidered modern slavery), they always have the option to look for better job prospects elsewhere.

As we see time and time again, when OPs ask how they can stop their abusive and/or violent husbands and partners from abusing them, everybody gives advice as to how to get away from them. Only when they have partners who are being a bit thoughtless or a little selfish does anybody even bother advising them how to stay and try to get them to mend their ways.
