if I was to order tomorrow for next day delivery would you risk it?

Numbat2022 · 19/12/2022 21:41

That is literally the point of the strikes, to cause the most hassle and show how vital they are.

Yes it's annoying. I very much hope it means they get their fair deal.

Soothsayer1 · 19/12/2022 21:38

I agree, it does all seem very random right now, RM has always been solid for me and I rely on them for my small business. I feel quite upset took a big hit over the pandemic but just managed to keep going, now with all these delayed and missing packages it feels like the end😥

@Soothsayer1 I do hope everything will be ok for your business ❤️

It’s ridiculous going on strike at the busiest time of year

Effective though. It's designed to have maximum impact so people sit up and think.

BluebirdRobin · 19/12/2022 21:48

Sadly I think the workers may have shot themselves in the foot because the more people who don't use RM in favour of other delivery services, the more job loses that will happen due to lower demand for their services.

@StaceySolomonSwash think about ?

OP posts:
ScottishLavender · 19/12/2022 21:53

As a small business I usually send out 60-70 packages a day this time of year. Because of the strikes I've had to close my listings or have to refund for packages which are in the system (probably sitting outside a sorting office) and will be delivered eventually so my income (of which December is roughly 30%) has been badly impacted.

We’ve had one postal delivery since the beginning of December- I know stuff that got sent at the end of November hasn’t yet arrived. I totally support the reason why they are striking but it’s so annoying so much hasn’t arrived/has gone missing. I’m going to pop to our local delivery office tomorrow morning to see if there’s at least post to collect…wish me luck I fear I may get the wrath of a postal worker directed at me!

Beautiful3 · 19/12/2022 21:56

Nope, i wouldn't. There is a massive back log of parcels.

Except what most people will sit up and think is “Next time, I’ll send my parcel with someone else”. RM is a sinking ship. They’ll be lucky to see next Christmas if things carry on the way they are.

My neighbours friend is a cleaner at a big Royal Mail parcel depot near us in the offices and she said there's literally stuff everywhere and there's even mail in storage and conference rooms it'll take ages to get it all sorted out I'm sure

If I wanted a toner I'd just got to boots and buy one I think

Tbh I don’t think it really matters what I choose to order… let’s all agree RM are dicks

I'd say you haven't a snowflake's chance in hell of receiving it before Christmas. We aren't even getting deliveries on all the non strike days. They are striking again on 23rd and 24th so Thursday is the last working day for many staff in Royal Mail.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/12/2022 22:12

It’s worth a try! You’re no worse off hair wise if it doesn’t arrive in time.

mummabubs · 19/12/2022 22:14

Honestly I wouldn't trust it. (For what it's worth I support their right to strike and understand that part of the mentality of strike action should be when it has the biggest impact). Having said that, the dates they've given for delivery even in light of the strikes are wildly inaccurate. They've said the last day for first class post to arrive before Christmas was Friday 16th. I sent a card on that day but don't expect it to arrive anywhere close to Christmas. We had two letters sent to us first class, one that was sent on 30.11.22 and arrived on 08.12.22, another was sent on the 09.12.22 first class and still hasn't arrived.

Flapjackquack · 19/12/2022 22:15

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 19/12/2022 21:09

No. I had something sent 48 hours delivery last Monday, tracked and still waiting.

I sent 48 hours tracked on 8th December. It hasn’t even left my local depot. I went down there but they won’t hand it back. Even Evri would have been better.

We don't though! They're overworked, underpaid and at the end of their tether. Strike action isn't a decision taken lightly, and yes it's frustrating for us to feel the effect of delays, but there are plenty of us who still support them. They're not dicks. They're people.

I fully support the right to strike and understand why they are doing what they are doing. Unfortunately for the Royal Mail workers, unlike the trains or NHS, people have alternatives and will move to them, likely permanently.

@mummabubs i will say this though like other posters have said who run small businesses and could end up potentially loosing them and all them “dicks” will return to work why others suffer

We haven’t had any post at all since November. London borough.
I can’t understand why there is nothing happening on the non strike days ?
Can anyone explain ?
I am a teacher and if we strike the kids won’t be taught on specific dates not a month..?

Daisy03 · 19/12/2022 22:22

Probably their families income in a cost of living crisis, takes priority to them over your hair colour 🤔

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/12/2022 22:22

My 48 hour tracked parcel has been sitting in a depot for six days, an hour way from here. I have no expectation that it will arrive.
