if I was to order tomorrow for next day delivery would you risk it?

Probably their families income in a cost of living crisis, takes priority to them over your hair colour 🤔

@Daisy03 🙄

I definitely think Royal Mail have shot themselves in the foot with this. Have already cancelled our collection service for the office next year. Also getting rid of the franking machine. We did have lots of post (I work somewhere "traditional") and whilst a small number of items "have" to go by post, anything we can send electronically is now going via that means. This strike was the push we needed to get rid of the conventional postal route.

Also scaled back on Christmas cards - will be even less next year. If I can avoid using Royal Mail now, I will.

daffodilandtulip · 19/12/2022 22:27

I'm still waiting for a 48hr parcel from the middle of November.

They are well within their rights to strike, but I think they're shouting themselves in the foot. The only winners here are Amazon, who I've ordered more than usual from, as it's reliable. I mean, it's even making Evri look reliable.

Italiandreams · 19/12/2022 22:29

I’ve had things delivered late and lost by both Amazon and evri this week 🤷‍♀️

ABBAsnumberonefan · 19/12/2022 22:30

All the other couriers have massive backlogs and delays too because they can’t handle the extra demand now that RM are striking - remember that RM strikes impact parcelforce too. Of course it’s showing how important they are.

Puzzledstill · 19/12/2022 22:31

Yet they don't seem very bothered about the small business owners family income, who rely on RM to send things to their customers at their busiest time of year!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 22:32

It’s ridiculous going on strike at the busiest time of year

Effective though. It's designed to have maximum impact so people sit up and think.

It will have permanent impact, when people switch to alternatives and don't ever switch back. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the strike, you need to realise what you're doing, when you actively encourage people to go to your competitors instead.

If Amazon expanded to delivering letters and cards (which surely wouldn't be difficult, considering they're already going to all the addresses/neighbourhoods each day), RM would be finished instantly. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they announced that they were going to start doing this any day. Even if they required people to leave their mail to be delivered at a local hub, that's no different from now, having to take letters to a post box.

At least the NHS workers on strike know that there's no alternative for most people.

@ABBAsnumberonefan I can only use a specific one, why do you care may I ask ?

Have they already released new stamps with Charles' image on them? If they haven't, they might be as well hold fire, as they may never be needed now.

Abraxan · 19/12/2022 22:34

Sadly no longer enough time.

Annoyingly I'm waiting for two parcels which have been sent via Royal Mail. Luckily one, it doesn't matter. But the other I ordered ages ago, parcel came but 2/3rd of order was missing. Contacted them and they've sent it out again - but again, via RM and I just know it won't arrive in time. It included Christmas crackers containing gin. Meant for Christmas Day.

Luckily the last couple of remaining presents have been sent via Evri. I know they've had issues elsewhere but so far they've been reliable for us this winter, fingers crossed.

I know why they've chosen this time, but wished shops/sellers would chose an alternative when taking Christmas orders and know RM won't be able to match the delivery times on their website - or at least declare they are using RM before ordering so customers know it's a risk.

Puzzledstill · 19/12/2022 22:34

The hair toner police and Royal Mail police are in tonight 🙄

Somebody will be suggesting getting your hair toner from HP or Canon any time soon! After all, toner is toner Grin

Because you’re making life so much harder for yourself. If other toners are making your hair purple, then you’re probably leaving it in too long. Use your common sense instead of starting a thread which is a sad attempt at making trying to make other people annoyed at those on strike.
You KNEW the strikes were happening they’re well talked about so why on earth did you not have the foresight to not sort this out by now?

Your brassy hair doesn’t trump people on strike - they’re trying to protect their contracts and working conditions.

And if your hair goes purple is it really that brassy in the first place?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 22:39

I think this will be like COVID all over again. When people could no longer do things in person, rules and practices were changed, relaxed and streamlined to make allowance for it - and many of these changes have now become permanent.

I can well imagine that many companies and individuals who have stubbornly held off using email instead of the post for correspondence will now be tipped into changing - and they'll never go back afterwards.

@ABBAsnumberonefan im a busy mother of two single working full time and in all fairness I normally use a different online store in was out of stock, hence why I needed to order else where

I had 2 packages delivered today which were despatched at the start of December. Postman says there's a huge amount backed up at the sorting office and they are on strike again at the end of the week; there is no way they will get through it before Xmas.
They're shooting themselves in the foot somewhat as people will go to to some lengths to not use RM in future.
It's the small businesses I feel most sorry for, because RM are taking them down with them and sending everyone's business to Amazon.

Okay? And? You still knew that strike action was happening. It’s not really an excuse to for you to come on here and start calling overworked RM workers dicks is it? Horrible.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/12/2022 22:45

Is Parcelfarce affected by the strikes as well? They (allegedly) finally brought an order that was due on Saturday (I don't really need the item anymore now) today, but didn't trouble themselves to knock, put it in the clearly-labelled parcel box next to the door or even post a card through. Ironically, it was ordered via Amazon (Marketplace); if I'd noticed they were the carrier, I would have chosen an alternative delivered by Amazon themselves or Evri or DPD, who always manage to let me know they're at the door with a parcel for me or leave it in a safe place.

No point whatsoever in doing 99% of the job and then not bothering with the final 1% that actually matters. Why would they not want to offload the parcels ASAP?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/12/2022 22:45

I ordered something Friday and it came today. Was very surprised!
