Anyone sad that Christmas will be over in a week?

OP posts:
dubyalass · 18/12/2022 18:43

No. With every passing year I find it grates on me more and more. I love the lights, the traditions etc, but I am so bored of hearing the same crappy pop songs in every shop and pub. They have been on repeat every year since 1970 - if I never heard any of them again it would be too soon. It’s like some weird fog descends in November and everyone becomes lobotomised. The exchange of presents that nobody wants, the FOG of spending time with family you dislike and dropping hundreds trying to create some magical Insta-worthy illusion. Black fucking Friday. Awful.

I just wonder why we still subscribe to this madness. It’s just designed to part people from their cash.

SirMingeALot · 18/12/2022 18:45

Ours won't be!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 18/12/2022 18:47

Mine won't - I'm working till Christmas Eve - Christmas will be happening until after New Year in my house.

Christmas starts on Christmas Day as far as I'm concerned, and I love January. It's February I struggle with.

I’m 0k with February the nights are getting lighter and I’ll be saying clocks go forward next month.

louderthan · 18/12/2022 18:54

Nope I hate it and can't for it to be over!

BrokeAsABone · 18/12/2022 18:55

It's not over until the 9th for me and I am so looking forward to three weeks of drunken debauchery!

Thecrackineverything · 18/12/2022 18:55

Can't wait for the bullshit to be over.

Lost123454 · 18/12/2022 18:57

No, can't wait for it to be over tbh

Tiredmum100 · 18/12/2022 18:58

Nope, I won't be sad when it's all over. All this fucking hassle.

I love this bit before xmas. I'm on the couch with prosecco, crisps and mince pies. Under a fleecy blanket. Cold and wet out. I'm staying in.

Prosecco at half past four?!

sinkyt · 18/12/2022 18:59

How can it be over in a week? It starts on xmas eve surely.

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2022 18:59

Things I love
An excuse for more wine and chocolate
Extra Eastenders

That's it really ! Lol
Was different with little children, but each Christmas is different as you age

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 18/12/2022 19:00

It must depend a bit on your work.

Christmas Day is the last day that DP, DS and I are all off work at the same time. So yes, Christmas Day is the ‘last’ day of Christmas.

I usually take the tree down the day after Boxing Day so it’s all fresh and clean for the NY.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 18/12/2022 16:47

It starts for me on the 25th and ends on the morning of the 27th and I cannot wait. I breathe such a sigh of relief. I find it a deeply depressing time of year.

What she said

schratching · 18/12/2022 19:01

Cant wait

sinkyt · 18/12/2022 19:01

Be prepared for all the people who think Christmas only starts on 25th, and who keep partying until 6th January.

My work closes between xmas & NY, which isn't unusual is it? It's when we meet up with friends & family as they are also off.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 18/12/2022 19:03

I can’t wait for it to be over . Christmas can be a very lonely time for lots of people. Not everyone has a huge amazing family that they want to spend time with and a lot of people are struggling.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 18/12/2022 19:03

I tend to think that those that think Christmas is over at tea time on the 25th are those that put their trees up in October.

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2022 19:05

It see to be faff , but now I don't really do it , so it's actually ok.

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2022 19:05

Used to be ..

Dogsgottabone · 18/12/2022 19:06

anythinginapinch · 18/12/2022 18:59

Prosecco at half past four?!

I poured a glass of merlot when I got back from walking the dog at 2pm. What else is there to do on a day like today?!

I will be delighted at this time next week OP. I generally leave everyone to it on Xmas day evening as I hate sitting in a warm sitting room making comments about the TV with my family. I shall be lying on the bed reading a book and looking forward to the 2nd January. I will plant some seeds, dust the house, put some Tulips in a vase, open the windows wide and breathe a sigh of relief.

Comedycook · 18/12/2022 19:07

I assume that the people who love Christmas have..

lots of money
A big happy family
loads of friends

Alighttouchonthetiller · 18/12/2022 19:07

Christmas isn’t over until 12th Night! Of course all the ignorant herberts who have had their trees up since Halloween will be itching to take everything down and get their ‘Easter decorations‘ up. Christmas starts on Christmas Eve. If you’ve been dicking about with Elf on the Shelf and bloody fabulous festive events since early November then of course you’ll be sick of it all.

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2022 19:07

It's the food shop that's the worst ..
Dh hates supermarkets and crowds , but he insists on coming with me .. I wished he wouldn't. You can't tell him
But it'll soon be over ,
