Anyone sad that Christmas will be over in a week?

OP posts:
Beelezebub · 18/12/2022 17:36

God no.
If it was already over I’d be thrilled.

NibbledSwitch · 18/12/2022 16:31

No...
1st Jan is my favourite day...358 days before the whole bullshit of Christmas and New year begins again 😄

Now that's worth celebrating.

GeneticallyModifiedGrump · 18/12/2022 17:40

Bit of a depressing way to live....enjoy the here and now rather than being sad about it being over before it's begun!

Doesn't bother me
It's over by the 28th for me as I'm back to work

WiddIytinks · 18/12/2022 17:41

Christmas isn't over until Twelfth Night (at least). For us it starts on the Saturday after Bonfire Night, when we have a sort of mini Christmas dinner to launch the season, and it ends on the first Saturday after TN when we have another special meal/little party type thing to close it.

Lots of stuff is still happening until TN - pantos don't usually finish until then and winter wonderland type events usually go on until New Year at least. And you don't have to rely on events anyway - you can have festive film evenings, walks to look at lights, Christmassy meals, etc. Don't take the decorations down until TN and buy some new ones for next year in the sales.

I know it sounds like a cliché but it's not called the festive season for nothing - Christmas isn't just one day!

BeanieTeen · 18/12/2022 17:42

Not for us. 12 days of Christmas where my family come from - we keep the Christmas spirit strong until January 6th.

Bookworm333 · 18/12/2022 17:47

I am! I love Christmas and although I will have between Christmas and NY off that always feels like a limbo period and not as much fun as the build up to Christmas itself. I cant belive how quickly it has come around this year. Having said that we have a small family and are quite firm about not over committing to social stuff or it just gets exhausting - appreciate that's not possible for everyone and that's why many will probably be glad when it's over!

Joshanddonna · 18/12/2022 17:50

I cannot wait for it to be over.

Fifthtimelucky · 18/12/2022 17:54

No. We have only put our Christmas tree up today and I'm just back from a carol service, so Christmas is just getting going as far as I'm concerned. I won't feel that's over until the tree comes down on 6 Jan.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 18/12/2022 18:02

Yes because so far the whole of December has just been one illness after the other in this house so we have missed so much of the build up. I haven't done any Christmas baking yet or even managed a christmas coffee it's all been so shit and I can't believe it will be Christmas day this time next week.

Christmas isn’t over on Christmas day! The Twelve Days only start then, and go on till Twelfth Night. Plan something festive, or at least out of the ordinary, for each of the days until you go back to work. It’s only over if you make it so.

This this this. Why are people so ready to rob themselves of Christmas?

JaneJeffer · 18/12/2022 18:10

Nope. Wish it was already over.

YukoandHiro · 18/12/2022 18:21

Goodness me! We haven't really got started yet. I'm excited! And there's new year too (not that I have any plans for that this year)

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2022 18:23

Cant wait for it to be over
The best bit is after Christmas and before NYE

Comedycook · 18/12/2022 18:25

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 18/12/2022 16:29

I can't wait for it to be over. I'm one of the odd people who likes January. It's the start of spring for me.

Same...the winter solstice has happened so days are only going to get longer. I'm looking forward to January

JaneJeffer · 18/12/2022 18:25

@Comedycook the 21st is the solstice

Reindeersnooker · 18/12/2022 18:26

No.

Yes..I meant in January the solstice will have happened not that it's happened already! But anyway, I feel happier as soon as that's happened as I know days get longer.

I can't wait for xmas and new year to be over and get back to some sort of normality. Hate this season.

Me too.

DillDanding · 18/12/2022 18:32

It will have started in a week. It won’t be over. That week between Christmas and new year is the best bit, along with the week before. I love it all.

We’ve been in London today with the family. Bars were rammed. The restaurant we went to was completely packed. The atmosphere was lovely.

JaneJeffer · 18/12/2022 18:32

Me too @Comedycook

maddiemookins16mum · 18/12/2022 18:33

Crikey, we don’t even have our tree up yet! It’s over on the 3rd when I go back to work.

Stunningscreamer · 18/12/2022 18:34

NO! It starts in September. Isn't that long enough?

belimoo · 18/12/2022 18:42

I am op. The last few weeks have been non-stop work and diy with builders here and no time for anything festive. Today was meant to mark the start of fun and relaxing and I tested positive for Covid yesterday so I'm now isolating in a room by myself for the next week in the hope that I won't pass it on and will at least be able to visit family on Christmas Day. I feel thoroughly robbed of the December festivities. Somehow it never feels the same for me after the day itself.
