Anyone sad that Christmas will be over in a week?

OP posts:
StellaOlivetti · 18/12/2022 16:51

I love the quiet time between Christmas and new year, feels like everything has stopped. I look forward to it, it feels very peaceful to me.

DorritLittle · 18/12/2022 16:56

For me Christmas does start on 24th. My tree went up last week. I am mostly Christmas shopping at the moment. And a few gatherings. I am always really busy seeing family between Christmas and New Year so love the calm on New Year's day. Tree stays up til 5th because I like it but I start taking down other stuff gradually after New Year.

Sunflower101 · 18/12/2022 17:01

Over, December 25 th is the first day of Christmas, this is just the build up. Commercialism tells us it’s over but it’s on till 6 th January!

all Xmas events and Xmas films are over by that point though.

Nope - looking forward to the day when the public Christmas decorations get taken down and the horrible festive garbage gets taken off the shop shelves. The world feels clean and calm and grown up again.

I have booked the lights at Kew Gardens for 4th January so not all will be over.

CremeEggThief · 18/12/2022 17:07

This is a very strange question! Why would anyone be thinking about how sad they're going to be after an event in the future that hasn't even happened yet?!
Were you thinking how sad you'd feel when the World Cup is over before the tournament even began too? Or how upset you'll feel after your fortnight's holiday in Summer 23 is over?

I'm known as an overthinker, but you're on another level, OP. I would seriously suggest you try to start living in the present more, for your own peace of mind.

Hbh17 · 18/12/2022 17:08

Goodness me, no! I can't wait for January, which is a brilliant month because:

  1. The nights are beginning to draw out
  2. I can start planning all the interesting things I'm going to do in 2023
  3. F**ng Christmas is behind us for another 11.5 months.
Unforgettablefire · 18/12/2022 17:09

I'm sad it's not over now.

Always4Brenner · 18/12/2022 17:10

Small treats in January but Christmas is 12 days for me and I’ll be looking forward to theatre trip and spring in January.

greenhousegal · 18/12/2022 17:12

It's a delight for kids and a bunch of drudgery/stress/financial costs for adults.

Every day is Christmas Day nowadays. Who has to wait anymore for a bit of Turkey and a few brussels sprouts. Make your own pigs in rugs, buy presents all year round. Christmas can be a manufactured nightmare for many.

Bah Humbug you may say, so what? I don't have children and they are what it's for really when they believe in Fr. Christmas anyway, magical for sure. For everyone else nah.

JamSandle · 18/12/2022 17:12

I am actually. I feel very excited for Christmas and love all the decorations. It feels like such a magical time of year. January always feels a bit bleak as I've never been a big fan of NYE but I will try to find something to look forward to although it's also my savings month!

Mammyloveswine · 18/12/2022 17:12

I'm only putting my tree up tonight Blush

pinneddownbytabbies · 18/12/2022 17:14

I'm going to be relieved if we make it that far without anything else going wrong. The last 7 days have included:

A burst water pipe under the front garden, still not fixed.

Our central heating boiler went wrong and we were without any heat or hot water for two days until the plumber could get here.

The oven has gone wrong (twice) and blown the electrics upstairs.

The latest incident of blown electrics upstairs includes having to clear up cat sick in the dark.

Frail elderly relative has fallen over (again) and bashed her face up.

DH's car has needed nearly £1000 of work doing.

DD has slipped over on the ice and hurt her leg.

I've had enough, to be honest.

Limer · 18/12/2022 17:16

Christmas isn't over until Twelfth Night!

Daydreamer22 · 18/12/2022 17:18

I work a lot of Christmas including the day and days afterwards, my Christmas runs until new year depending on what days off I have and what arrangements I make with people! So no two weeks today it will be over for me

emmathedilemma · 18/12/2022 17:20

No

AuntieDolly · 18/12/2022 17:21

Can't you just enjoy the here & now? Its all any of us have got x

WunWun · 18/12/2022 17:21

Fuck no. Roll on January, I can't wait.

gingercat02 · 18/12/2022 17:21

Christmas starts in a week! I love all of it but I understand it can be a difficult time for lots of people.
We have lots planned for the few days after and then we are decorating DS bedroom while we are still off school/work

Moon22 · 18/12/2022 17:24

Nope. A wise man once told me,"you know it'd only the fun people who go out in January," and he was dead right...love getting out an enjoying myself in January!

Not quite the same, but washer is fucked; apparently there is a leak somewhere in the roof that I found quite by accident as there is damp now in one of the bedrooms that is stressing me beyond belief.
I work full time, husband cannot work and only can claim PIP (still awaiting the result from the application), but I am also his carer
I am on my knees and still have to work

Woolwichgirl · 18/12/2022 17:30

Ehhh..No..not me.
Am here counting days till it can all end and kids get back to school.
My 8 year old autistic/adhd kid and whiny toddler are driving me mad.

Spellegrin · 18/12/2022 17:31

I can't wait for xmas and new year to be over and get back to some sort of normality. Hate this season.
