Originally from Kent, now in Essex, I would have ketchup.

yoyy · 12/12/2022 21:02

salt & pepper too but assumed that was standard!

BanditOne · 12/12/2022 21:03

Essex- salt, vinegar, curry sauce.

Maybe a pickled Wally!! 😁

EdvardMunchsMuse · 12/12/2022 21:03

South Wales
Tartare sauce or fruity curry but the curry must never touch the fish.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 12/12/2022 21:04

London. Salt and vinegar, mushy peas, tartare sauce, ketchup and a nice, juicy gherkin.

houseargh · 12/12/2022 21:05

London

Used to be salt and vinegar, tartare sauce, mushy peas. Now I add a pot of curry sauce as well because it's all good (DH -Manchester's - influence)

Belfast and both and how small is that fish !! I would be very very very disappointed if that was served to me lol x hope it was nice x

@abblie This was just a pic I found from Google Images.

My own fish and chips was already in my belly by the time I thought to make this post. I can confirm it was bigger, but still a “southern” portion 😂

Devon

salt and vinegar
Ideally/ pureed peas (not those nasty marrowfat things bleigh)
tartare sauce

HeatwaveToNightshade · 12/12/2022 21:10

Belfast
A couple of slices of buttered bread. Tomato ketchup for the chip butty. Salt and vinegar for the fish.

Yarnosaura · 12/12/2022 21:17

Growing up in north Kent: salt and vinegar, ketchup and a pickled onion. Pickled eggs were popular but not for me.

Now, when fortunate enough to find a chip shop that does gluten free: everybloodything.

userxx · 12/12/2022 21:26

Mushy peas and a slice of thick white bread.

Ketchup and salt.

South Manchester.

FallopianTubeTrain · 12/12/2022 21:28

Nottingham - mushy peas (with mint sauce) and curry sauce

mdinbc · 12/12/2022 21:30

OhAmBackAgain - coleslaw and a lemon slice for sure, even at a take-out. Caesar salad or coleslaw at a restaurant.

I've never seen mushy peas on any menu, and it doesn't sound very appetizing. Please explain what it is.

magicthree · 12/12/2022 21:34

New Zealand.

Aioli or tartare sauce

magicthree · 12/12/2022 21:35

Oh, and sometimes coleslaw!
