Electric throws, do you feel the wires through the throw ?

MoriaRoseForever · 12/12/2022 17:07

Hi

i have been researching electric heated throws. Looked at the ones recommended on here .

I’ve seen a few reviews mentions feeling the wires, but in general most people don’t mention them . So I wondered if people feel them but expect to so don’t say in reviews, or just some people notice? If some throws better than others for that .

Also been tempted by the Dreamland faux fur ones , around £110. But saw one person in a review said they washed it and it stopped being fluffy .

So perhaps velvet , fleece, flannel , Sherpa etc washes better ?

I don’t think they need regular washing, as throws, but wouldn’t want to damage a lovely expensive fluffy one when I do .

any advice or suggestions ?

thanks

I have the dreamland faux fur one. It wasnt the same after washing. Its now fairly matted. mind you mine is about 8 years old. its still going strong and is in daily use.

MoriaRoseForever · 12/12/2022 17:09

I like this one, but some reviews saying the heat is patchy and that it’s thin material and can feel the wires.

it looks thick to me .

I've got the Dreamland herring green one, and I can feel the wires if I really try to feel them but they're not noticeable in general use.

Cinderellla · 12/12/2022 17:13

I have the silent night one from Amazon, it’s really soft and cosy, haven’t washed it yet tho

Mrstwiddle · 12/12/2022 17:16

I got one from Dreamland and returned it, the wires were very obvious! I’m always surprised that more people don’t mention it when talking about heated throws.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 12/12/2022 17:17

I've got a pale grey furry heated throw (Dreamland) which has a rough fleecy underside and you can feel the wires a bit, but not to excess. The underside is creamy and picks up all manner of loose threads (love sewing) but is toasty so I don't mind too much. I haven't dared wash it yet.

That’s the one I have been tempted by but out off by the reviewer who said when it’s billed as washable, it is but it’s not the same.

Did it take a few washes to change or after the first ?

That’s helpful, so you have to try to feel them rather than really noticeable ?

how does it wash ?

That’s what I thought re being mentioned, I’ve read loads of best of pages such as here and I don’t recall the wires and feeling them being mentioned or part of the general rating of them.

even going through reviews in the pages like Amazon and Lakeland, it’s rare that anyone mentions the wires,

which one did you get and return ?

I’m looking at the velvet and the Sherpa ones . I’m not risking washing faux fur I think . Although they look lovely and very tempted !

Is that one of the Sherpa ones ?

I like this as it’s very large . But a few reviews said thin and feel wires and others that the heat is patchy .

This is favourite , as I’m wary now about the faux fur. But I’ve read a couple of reviews saying it’s thin, can feel the wires and it’s patchy heat .

it looks lovely and thick to me !

I have this one. Seems to be out of stock now but will come back again I think. It’s wonderful! So cheap to run and you don’t really notice the wires as they are bendy. The one thing I will say is that if you wrap yourself up in them they don’t work as well - you need to lay them out flat so the wires are as flat as possible then the heat distributes well - I’m on an energy forum and everyone says the same thing. I tend to lay it out flat on the sofa and sit under it or put it on top of my duvet. It’s so lovely. My favourite thing!

*@MoriaRoseForeverYes, it's Dreamland Intelliheat and has the sherpa underside, though the packaging is a bit different and I got it from Lakeland. I think it must be the same one. I'm fairly happy with it. It's big enough to place a bit underneath your legs lightly which is helpful as there's an annoying draught.

darisdet · 12/12/2022 17:39

I have the fur fallow deer (or something ) and a velvet-type one. Lakeland. You can feel the wires, I suppose, but it's not something I've thought of as a particular problem.

Would recommend anyway. I bought on Mumsnet recommendations.

terriblemustard · 12/12/2022 17:40

I have the dreamland faux fur one (grey) and it's great! If this one packed up, I'd buy another in a heart beat. I don't notice the wires and it washes lovely. After washing I give mine a quick brush with a tangle teezer and it works a treat. Lovely and soft again Smile

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 12/12/2022 17:42

The temp range is on the cable. It's oval-shaped and you can select from 1-6 temperature by pressing the thermometer symbol and set it for between either 1, 3, or 6 hours by pressing the clock symbol. Obviously it's not a good idea to put it on at the maximum heat for the longest time or you'd be getting too hot and falling asleep.

Is the heat patchy and it’s thin and can feel the wires ? It looks very cosy to me !

which would you recommend ?

We’ve got Dreamland and Lakeland own brand, and can feel the wires, but it’s never been something that bothered me. They are nice and fluffy/soft.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2022 17:45

I've got a Lakeland one. Can feel them a bit. But it's one of the best things I've ever bought!

Is that the husky ? Do you wash it often ?

just worried about spending that in something that won’t wash well . I have a tangle teezer ,

It's cosy, the wires can be felt a bit but it's not a massive problem. I'm sure some of the edges aren't quite as warm as the rest of it but if you wrap it round yourself as recommended you'll be nice and toasty. I wouldn't want to be without it now.
