Electric throws, do you feel the wires through the throw ?

Hi

i have been researching electric heated throws. Looked at the ones recommended on here .

I’ve seen a few reviews mentions feeling the wires, but in general most people don’t mention them . So I wondered if people feel them but expect to so don’t say in reviews, or just some people notice? If some throws better than others for that .

Also been tempted by the Dreamland faux fur ones , around £110. But saw one person in a review said they washed it and it stopped being fluffy .

So perhaps velvet , fleece, flannel , Sherpa etc washes better ?

I don’t think they need regular washing, as throws, but wouldn’t want to damage a lovely expensive fluffy one when I do .

any advice or suggestions ?

thanks

It's cosy, the wires can be felt a bit but it's not a massive problem. I'm sure some of the edges aren't quite as warm as the rest of it but if you wrap it round yourself as recommended you'll be nice and toasty. I wouldn't want to be without it now.

This is my favourite on my list www.argos.co.uk/product/4883333?clickPR=plp:26:28

am feeling a bit more reassured on it

Cosi Home® Heated Throw - Electric Blanket - Extra Large Heated Blanket, Machine Washable Fleece with Digital Remote, Timer and 9 Heat Settings (Grey) amzn.eu/d/3Xqp7Tw

I have this one. Seems to be out of stock now but will come back again I think. It’s wonderful! So cheap to run and you don’t really notice the wires as they are bendy. The one thing I will say is that if you wrap yourself up in them they don’t work as well - you need to lay them out flat so the wires are as flat as possible then the heat distributes well - I’m on an energy forum and everyone says the same thing. I tend to lay it out flat on the sofa and sit under it or put it on top of my duvet. It’s so lovely. My favourite thing!

I have this. A person local to me (Scotland) was moving to a hot climate & wanted rid of it & I bought it for £10 in the summer. I'd no idea it was worth £50 new so I feel rather fortunate to have it.

I've not washed it yet but it is super soft & gets really really hot straight away.
It's FANTASTIC !

The temp range is on the cable. It's oval-shaped and you can select from 1-6 temperature by pressing the thermometer symbol and set it for between either 1, 3, or 6 hours by pressing the clock symbol. Obviously it's not a good idea to put it on at the maximum heat for the longest time or you'd be getting too hot and falling asleep.

So 6 range is fine, don’t need 9 ?

Beg pardon, my mistake. I've just been to look at the controls and the timing is for either 1, 3 or 9 hours. I usually start off at temperature 6 for 1 hour to warm up, then turn it down to temp 3 for the rest of the evening, maybe 3 hours, sometimes 9.

With my thermal vest etc, I'd be sweating like a pig if I put it on for 9 hours at temperature number 6 and they don't recommend it.

@MoriaRoseForever yes the husky, that's the one! I've had it over a year now and wash it every couple of months.

It's really nice and thick. My dd often uses it without turning the heat on as it keeps her warm as it is. I like it cranked up to 6 Grin

Mrstwiddle · 12/12/2022 21:47

@MoriaRoseForever i can’t remember what it was called, it was last year. Think it was around £60-70, maybe the more expensive ones have more padding. I’d bought it for my Mum and the first thing she commented on was the wires.

And a brush with a tangle teezer keeps it ok ?

thanks

We love the Dreamland throws and have two and they are in constant use. They are so useful and very cosy.

HairyKitty · 12/12/2022 22:00

Wires are annoying and noticeable except Silentnight Luxury heated throw which feels more like a normal blanket. It gets slightly less hot than the others but I love it.

NewNovember · 12/12/2022 22:03

You need this one can't feel wires great heat had it for five years, love it.

I don't bother with whole throws.
A Sherpa fleece and a heated pad are ample for me (left over from a back operation a few years ago). Super cosy!

Electric throws, do you feel the wires through the throw ?
Fedupwitheveryone · 12/12/2022 22:07

I have the dreamland faux fur in zebra. it's thick and the wires aren't noticeable. I've not washed it as only had it a month (and anyway can't get it out from under the cat)
It's great, and makes me happy when i think about getting home to the sofa - sad but true :-)

Alwayswithalacrity · 12/12/2022 22:11

I’ve got a dreamland one from John Lewis..(2 years ago.) I’ve thought about the wires that much. I can only feel them when I make a conscious effort to feel them IYSWIM! I’m currently Sitting in the conservatory on my iPad with my throw on number 3 of 6. It’s currently 11 degrees in here. But I’m quite cosy and warm.

Alwayswithalacrity · 12/12/2022 22:14

That should say I’ve never thought about the wires much!

SweetPetrichor · 12/12/2022 22:36

I have a Lakeland Sherpa one and you don’t notice the wires. If you feel for them, then they’re obvious but you don’t notice them really when just using it. Never washed it yet, but it’s the best purchase I’ve made this year. Incredibly cosy, even when it’s off!

rwalker · 12/12/2022 22:40

I got cheap electric blanket tacked it to old quilt
wires very obvious so easy to avoid
put it in quilt cover use that
not quite the same but works well and cost £15 already had quilt

PumpkinLumpkin · 12/12/2022 22:43

I've tried one. Yes you feel the wires. I never use it anymore, I prefer a hot water bottle under a blanket honestly

PumpkinLumpkin · 12/12/2022 22:44

It was dreamland btw. And that fluffy sherpa lining picks up all the crap of the day. Just ends up getting grotty.

Cynderella · 12/12/2022 23:46

I have the Dreamland green (teal?) velour one. It doesn't look (well not as nice as it does in pic) lovely, and you can definitely feel the wires, but it does what it needs to do when the heating is off, so if it lasts, I'm happy with it.

Tempted by that one , but some people say it doesn’t stay as nice once washed .
how have you found it ?

Think there are four types of faux fur . Zebra looks nice.

Not quite as fluffy but still really good and as I say it's been five years honestly it's my favourite thing I own.
