Electric throws, do you feel the wires through the throw ?

MoriaRoseForever · 12/12/2022 17:07

Hi

i have been researching electric heated throws. Looked at the ones recommended on here .

I’ve seen a few reviews mentions feeling the wires, but in general most people don’t mention them . So I wondered if people feel them but expect to so don’t say in reviews, or just some people notice? If some throws better than others for that .

Also been tempted by the Dreamland faux fur ones , around £110. But saw one person in a review said they washed it and it stopped being fluffy .

So perhaps velvet , fleece, flannel , Sherpa etc washes better ?

I don’t think they need regular washing, as throws, but wouldn’t want to damage a lovely expensive fluffy one when I do .

any advice or suggestions ?

thanks

So starting to narrow down.

I like the sherpa ones as look thick, but some reviews seem to say thin. Also the white side, concern that will get dirty quicker.
So these

This one is larger www.lakeland.co.uk/61802/dreamland-velvety-electric-heated-throw-grey-and-red-check-135-x-180cm

Love these, but still wary about the washing. And then what one to pick out of the faux furs !

And then there is this one, variety of colours

All the above have good and bad reviews. Some say thin and patchy heat. Others say amazing.

Basically want something that feels thick and will wash ok and heat good.

Decisions ! Oh and hard to find most in stock.

Thanks everyone.

All seem same size, apart from the checked sherpa. Live the idea of being extra large. But the others probably fine. None totally cover bed, so more for sitting wrapped up in .

am currently wrapped up in my Dreamland one - was about £60 as is one of the more basic ones. If I feel about I suppose I can find where the wires are but I literally wrap it around me and sit on it and I can’t feel anyway uncomfortable.

i got the faux fur ones for the kids. I wouldn’t expect them to be washed very much. DD put hers into her bed before she got into it last night to heat it up but generally they don’t come into direct contact with skin so it would only be if food was spilled on them that I would wash them.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 13/12/2022 11:31

I have a Dreamland fur throw. The wires can be felt but not enough to be annoying, I don’t really notice it in general use. I have found that heat level 2 out of a possible 6 is quite enough for me so good and toasty.

I haven’t had it long so not washed it yet but have a couple of other non-electric fake fur throws. The trick is to dry them naturally (which is pretty quick) and then give them 10 minutes in a cool tumble dryer to fluff the fur back, works a treat.

darisdet · 13/12/2022 11:38

I haven't washed the fur throw yet @MoriaRoseForever Though it's washable and apparently can go in the tumble dryer.

The velvet throw is probably more practical, washed and dried without problem, and has been used more. Though we bought that one first.

So I'm not sure which I'd recommend more. I like the fur as it feels slightly warmer, but my daughter thinks it sheds fibres slightly. Though I haven't noticed that.

yoshiblue · 13/12/2022 11:50

I have the Dreamland velvet herringbone one. Can feel them slightly only if I concentrate on them, don't notice them in general use. Don't worry about it

EspeciallyD · 13/12/2022 11:59

We've got the Dreamland cream and grey one. You can feel the wires if you pinch it with your fingers, but not when it's wrapped around you, it's not quite as warm round the edges as in the middle but that doesn't really natter as it's so big, it is incredibly cosy when you tuck it in around yourself. The fluffy cream side has gone matted and picks up fluff but we fold it with the grey side outside when not in use so it doesn't show, and no one minds it looking a bit the worse for wear when they are using it. We absolutely love it.

Do you mean over or under you?

Do you mean over or under you?

A throw or blanket that goes over and can sit with it when working. Wraps round.

This is looking like my favourite. Is the heat even ?
I like the sherpa but the cream but will get dirty quicker.

Is that the herringbone or plain ? Are they quite thick ? Although too thick will be bulky. I do though love the fur. But it looks bulky to wash.

I've got the Dreamland herringbone one and you can feel the wires but I don't really find it a problem. I've found it's quite uncomfortable to have wires you can feel in an underblanket but not really an issue with a throw.

darisdet · 13/12/2022 12:38

It's the herringbone I have and it's not thick. The fur definitely is far bulkier.

Ciri · 12/12/2022 17:08

I have the dreamland faux fur one. It wasnt the same after washing. Its now fairly matted. mind you mine is about 8 years old. its still going strong and is in daily use.

I need to wash mine but this has made me worry as I love the softness.
Is yours the husky one? Did you use fabric softener?

Op if you get the dreamland faux fur throws you can't feel the wires when it's on you. I'd still use it even if I could it's amazing!

yoshiblue · 13/12/2022 12:42

Yes it’s great! Use it every day it’s brilliant especially working from home as I manage without the heat on

Ciri · 13/12/2022 13:20

This is what happened to mine. It is old though. With hindsight I’d have brushed it thoroughly, washed on cold and then brushed it out again before it dried. It’s still great at keeping me warm though.

i did

cherriegarcia · 13/12/2022 14:36

I've got a dreamland one and you can feel the wires, but it's fine. You won't get a heated throw where you can't feel wires really, but they are thin and flexible. They're not too distracting.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 13/12/2022 15:25

@Ciri I have rescued one that looked like that by re-washing, line dry and then ten minutes on cold in the tumble dryer.

Oh thank you, I'll give that a go. Maybe in the spring when I can line dry it. At the moment you'd have to fight me for it..

SirChenjins · 13/12/2022 15:38

I have the Dreamland one and wouldn't be without it now. Yes I can feel the wires if I dig about for them - they're more like spaghetti sized bendy plastic than metal wires iykwim.

I've got a sherpa, a fake fur, and a herringbone. They are all good, no massive difference between them in terms of heat, and I can feel the wires on all of them to an extent but not that it bothers me. I'd go for whatever you can find in stock.
