Is it really the norm to be completely hair free for sex now?

I was married for 30 years, I kept myself tidy if I was likely to be going swimming but that's about it. DH never seemed to mind or express a preference for anything else.

I was part of a conversation with a bunch of middle aged, mostly single, admittedly quite drunk, men and women (don't ask me how the conversation came up!) and the consensus seemed to be that anything other than a completely hair free woman and a well trimmed man was "disgusting".

I've told them all Blush that if the ever get the opportunity (they won't!) they'll have to take it as it comes 😆

I really can't imagine setting myself up for that sort of maintenence, even if I wanted to, but is it really the norm?

It’s there to protect your bits (and keep them warm). Mine’s going nowhere!

I had plenty of action in my younger days. Only bloke who ever mentioned it was Italian. And used to ask me to shave his back...

TongueTwistr · 10/12/2022 16:23

Not RTFT, but it took me some years to appreciate that preparations for sex (stockings and suspenders etc) might do more for the wearer than their partner. Consequently, if a woman feels more sexy - or just finds it easier to relax with hair trimmed, au naturel or plaited, then that's the way it should be.
As for this man in his fifties, there will be no refusals, just gratitude for the intimacy.

Mydogatemypurse · 10/12/2022 16:24

Im pretty much hair free and waxed all summer. Winter im a hairy golblin.

Poppins2016 · 10/12/2022 16:24

I don't find hairless men attractive, I much prefer the natural look/state.

I shave my legs (knees and below) and armpits on a regular basis, because I prefer it that way. I only trim and shave my bikini line when I'm going swimming or if I really want to (so not regularly!) but have never gone hairless in the pubic region and DH has never expected or requested it.

ArcticSkewer · 10/12/2022 16:31

Bizarrely I have never noticed whether women are bare down there or not in communal changing rooms, and I use them pretty much daily. I really must be not paying attention!

Whatever you do, don’t start paying attention as a result of this thread - or you might get a few odd looks Grin

LivingOnAPear · 10/12/2022 16:42

I recently went to a Scandinavian country and used the swimming pool everyday so saw loads of naked women of different ages in the showers and changing rooms. No one except me had pubes.

I occasionally shaved it all off when I was younger but normally just trim when I can be bothered.

It isn’t more hygienic. You’re at more risk of infection, particularly from the hair follicles getting infected.

Precisely. This is why British Cycling recommend female athletes retain hair.

WakingUpDistress · 10/12/2022 16:43

The norm fir younger women, less so for older women. Has been like fir at least 10~15 years.

From a discussion with a midwife.

I think hair free seems much more hygienic. And seems the norm these days

No it isn’t

No it isn’t

Stop making crap up

Gwenhwyfar · 10/12/2022 16:50

"This has been the norm for at least the last 15 years."

For younger people, yes. How long has it been the norm for middle aged people?

OP, how old exactly are you. Middle aged could be 40s, but as you said you were married for 30 years, I'm presuming you're quite a bit older and I'm really surprised and saddened that your age group is totally hairless.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/12/2022 16:52

From my personal friends, women in their 40s and 50s veer from tidying it up a bit to extensive gardening. The ones early 30s to early 40s were mostly hair free at one point but now mostly just well gardened. The ones in their 20s do a mix of all things. (I work with a lot of chatty women, I haven’t done a survey, so not representative)

The people I was with were in their 50s, but the women they sleep with are probably younger

As nature intended in our house.

I honestly thought only people in to did this before reading these kinds of threads.

I think hairless is creepy and weird.

Thighlengthboots · 10/12/2022 16:54

Its possible to discuss this without implying that women who do shave have paedophiles for partners. If the only way a man can tell the difference between a child and a woman is by the amount of pubic hair she has then...thats rather concerning....

IsThePopeCatholic · 10/12/2022 16:56

My naturist friend told me that most naturists (men and women) shave their pubes. I was surprised as I assumed they would prefer the natural look.

Should read people into porn

I think it is the norm, doesn't mean it's right though

It’s the norm if you out on the dating scene after a marriage. The men, Also divorced or separated expect it (too much porn? No idea) but I had a couple of years dating on OLD and this was always raised. That and anal. Yet I was married for many years and only tidied up for the annual summer holiday.

Porn innit? I think it’s grim, everyone wants to fuck women who resemble little girls. Bleuch!

I find this such a weird comment. I have a little girl and trust me, i look nothing like her down there even when fully shaven 🤷🏻‍♀️

I like to mix it up. Sometimes i leave it, sometimes i trim and sometimes i shave completely. DH has never commented on the changes. Im pretty sure most guys wouldnt really care. I must say i do feel more hygenic and clean when its completely gone vs. grown long.
And its not really a lot of maintenance. Just tidy in the shower takes less than a minute.

100% this .
I'd run a mile from any man who wanted hair free.

Yarrawonga · 10/12/2022 17:10

but is it really the norm?

I haven’t a clue. It’s not something I have ever discussed with others.

Abeachsomewhere · 10/12/2022 17:11

Au naturel here - I only shave my bikini line and keep my pubes trimmed. I have been with DH for 14 years and before that had plenty of action, no complaints yet!

flflflf · 10/12/2022 17:13

aside from the huge misogyny and double standards involved from male partners who prefer women not to have it, who has time to attend to it!? honestly, the hours many women put into plucking, tweezing, waxing, shaving, etc etc seem a massive waste and also another thing to have to worry about - pointlessly. I find it offensive if a guy prefers a partner without it! These people are better off avoided, it's a good douchebag filter! An ex ordered me to shave down below once because he was offended by the au natrel appearance. In my youthful naivety I listened and did it! I now wish I had dumped him on the spot.

RottingAutumnApples · 10/12/2022 17:14

I'm late 40s and the men I have had sex with in the past few years are all relieved to find I have pubic hair. They all hate the trend for hairless women, and dislike how it looks.

PeterRabbitHadACarrot · 10/12/2022 17:15

A 'well trimmed' man would be a huge turn off, probably to the extent I'm no longer in the mood.
