Is it really the norm to be completely hair free for sex now?

I was married for 30 years, I kept myself tidy if I was likely to be going swimming but that's about it. DH never seemed to mind or express a preference for anything else.

I was part of a conversation with a bunch of middle aged, mostly single, admittedly quite drunk, men and women (don't ask me how the conversation came up!) and the consensus seemed to be that anything other than a completely hair free woman and a well trimmed man was "disgusting".

I've told them all Blush that if the ever get the opportunity (they won't!) they'll have to take it as it comes 😆

I really can't imagine setting myself up for that sort of maintenence, even if I wanted to, but is it really the norm?

My ex hubbie wasn’t bothered by an untidy garden but he want really bothered about sex to be honest!
my new young fwb likes a tidy garden however,

This conversation comes around fairly regularly on mumsnet and its interesting that as over the years the myth of pubic hair being unhygienic is more widely debunked we now have more posts about it being 'more sensitive' to shave, where previously there would be a lot more of the 'more hygienic' posts. I hasten to add I don't think anyone is deliberately making things up, but as a society women are conditioned for the male gaze, porn is a huge influence on them, and I wouldn't be surprised if this the subtle response from patriarchal media etc.

Spanielsarepainless · 10/12/2022 14:48

I'm 60 and while armpit and leg hair has mostly vanished I still have the full complement down below. And it's still dark, unlike everywhere else. I have never shaved it, only kept it tidy, especially if going swimming.

I think hair free seems much more hygienic. And seems the norm these days

Do you also shave your head for hygiene reasons?

ProserpinaProserpina · 10/12/2022 14:50

I fell for this madness in my late teens and early 20s. It would go as thus:

  1. Spend the best part of an hour shaving
  2. Be lovely and smooth for approximately 12 hours
  3. Develop incredibly itchy stubble
  4. Terrible ingrowing hairs and shaving rash for the next week
  5. Start again
No creams, different razors, alternative hair removal methods etc. improved this.

I’m 30 and I am now very much in ‘Camp Bush’. The areas that would stick out as of a bikini are dealt with, and the rest is trimmed at random intervals. DH couldn’t care less.

NewToWoo · 10/12/2022 14:50

Anecdotal but I've noticed the opposite in younger generations. DS's girlfriend and DNephew's girlfriend don't shave at all, judging by their legs and armpits and there's no sign DS or nephew object.

PortiasBiscuit · 10/12/2022 12:49

Porn innit? I think it’s grim, everyone wants to fuck women who resemble little girls. Bleuch!

This 👏🏽 keep it trimmed when it gets to a certain point so it’s not like going for a walk in a dark woods and spider legs at bay when going swimming. Although dp is lucky if he gets me with shaved legs and armpits these days 🤣

If it looks like a big hairy rat you should see a doctor

This made me laugh so much.

DillDanding · 10/12/2022 14:56

Yawn. This has been discussed on here ad nauseam.

It’s been the norm for about 15 years. I’m in the gym changing area several times a week. It’s very rare to see pubes.

I’ve had the lot waxed off for years and years. Nothing to do with porn, just like my hair free pits and legs. It feels lovely, seems cleaner and oral sex is glorious.

LiveIngSun · 10/12/2022 14:57

I think people are also influenced by their air type. If you have little fair bits of tufty hair it’s easy to remove.

If you have a wild 70s bush sometimes there’s no way of not either looking like a raw plucked chicken, sporting a 5 o’clock shadow or being prone to ingrown hairs that rapidly tunnel into evil spikes.

I have so many friends who are all ‘your hair so amazingly strong/ thick/ curly, it’s like two heads of hair!’ but then don’t believe the real challenge of actually defeating this hair type. Bleach doesn’t even do much to it. Veet just makes it brittle, you’d dissolve skin first…

SirChenjins · 10/12/2022 14:57

Oh yawn yawn yawn - oral sex isn’t better and it’s not cleaner.

ilikethatname · 10/12/2022 15:00

Team bush here. Zero benefit to shaving, imo it’s just inconvenient, itchy and sore.

DillDanding · 10/12/2022 15:01

I can’t imagine shaving it. Horrendous.

Get it waxed if you want rid of it

Gunner1510 · 10/12/2022 15:03

It’s personal preference and that should be all that matters.

I do recall having this conversation a while back in a group and interestingly all the men said they hated stubble/regrowth, would rather hair than something that resembles sandpaper.

I guess it depends on the removal method on how stubbly it gets!

I like men hairless it’s nothing to do with wanting them being young I don’t want pubes in my teeth.

Notanotherone6 · 10/12/2022 15:06

No. Neat, sure when I can be bothered, but bald, no chance.

Delectable · 10/12/2022 15:08

It's unhealthy to shave hair around there totally off. Ofcourse if they're doing for a job or to impress multiple people perhaps they find it worthwhile to put themselves at risk.

Of you wax them you’re not hairless - you’ll have a few days max of being hairless then it grows back in and you have to wait until it grows back a bit before you can wax again. What a painful faff.

Why are you using your teeth in oral sex?

ChocoFudge · 10/12/2022 14:43

I'm surprised that so many people seem to know what all their friends do with their pubic hair. It's not something I've ever discussed (or wanted to discuss tbh) with my friends, I have no idea how hairy or not they are.

I’ve no idea what my dc do with theirs either 🤷‍♀️

or nephews, nieces, and well anyone else…

how on earth does it come up in conversation?

DuploMum · 10/12/2022 15:24

I'd love to be completely free of it but shaving down there is just a nightmare and only nice for about 12 hours. I'd go for a wax if I could afford 🙄

LindyLou2020 · 10/12/2022 15:26

TheSmallAssassin · 10/12/2022 13:06

Gah, pubic.

@TheSmallAssassin
I preferred public hair😂
My mind was boggling........

Dalekjastninerels · 10/12/2022 15:26

OP

Shave or trim etc as you like. Everyone has different sexual tastes; you will not suit everyone, just walk away and don't compromise yourself.

Whenever I'm looking for guidance on sex and intimate relationships, I always give the most weight to the opinions of single, middle-aged drunks. It's not failed me yet. Said no sane person ever.

There's a possibility this group are having more sex and broader experience than anyone else.

Honeybirds87 · 10/12/2022 15:31

Most of my friends are hair free. I get rid of it all twice a month when I take the kids swimming so it's fairly short generally.

Dh reckons he prefers hair there and that I shouldn't shave but he puts his face down there more often when it's clean shaven so subconsciously I think that's his preference
