Is it really the norm to be completely hair free for sex now?

I was married for 30 years, I kept myself tidy if I was likely to be going swimming but that's about it. DH never seemed to mind or express a preference for anything else.

I was part of a conversation with a bunch of middle aged, mostly single, admittedly quite drunk, men and women (don't ask me how the conversation came up!) and the consensus seemed to be that anything other than a completely hair free woman and a well trimmed man was "disgusting".

I've told them all Blush that if the ever get the opportunity (they won't!) they'll have to take it as it comes 😆

I really can't imagine setting myself up for that sort of maintenence, even if I wanted to, but is it really the norm?

Waxing is pretty painless for many women, some hair removal cream stings, and you only get ingrown hairs if you don’t shave properly and do appropriate aftercare.

Pretty painless for many women?! Don’t be daft - waxing your nether regions bare is painful. Yes, some hair removal cream stings and ingrown grown hairs can occur even if you’re careful. The micro cuts, itchy regrowth and increased risk of infections are also real risks.

@Baconsprouts

Ahh let me guess. You and your mum were “besties” during your adolescence too. Sounds like a bad case of incestuous parenting if you ask me.

My mother is first and foremost my mother, but if I needed sex tips (which I don’t as I’m content in that department) I would go to my actual female friends.

My mother has gave me and continues to give me invaluable advice about life but her sex tricks?? No thank you.

70sShmeventies · 10/12/2022 20:35

@Baconsprouts you can only speak for yourself there. It is painful for me, I do get dreadful rashes with both shaving and the creams (learnt the hard way as a teen) and had an awful infected ingrown hair as well as thrush from soap used for shaving etc.

All pretty unpleasant. I think I'm unlucky, but doubly so because I then get hit with the expectation that I should be hair free. Like I’ve said before I’ve been shamed by men and women before.

I maintain my stance on the spectrum. It’s all women going through pain and wasting their time and resources to conform to some societal expectation of how they should look.

Again, you find it works for you. Great. Not for others. Your experience and opinions are not the same as others.

And really, appropriate aftercare as well as the original hair removal. I really just can’t be fucking bothered. I’ll stick to a light trim thanks.

I'm 50 and I get a Hollywood every time. I hate hair on the body.

woodhill · 10/12/2022 20:42

name78change · 10/12/2022 20:25

@Baconsprouts you get sex tips from your parents......?

That's quite unusual imo

I cringe around my own dps

woodhill · 10/12/2022 20:46

And I don't know what my 2 dds in their 20s do either

BratzB · 10/12/2022 20:47

MN is always so insular with stuff like this though

Not sure discussing sex with your dad is aspirational for many people! Happy to be in insular in this case, personally. Though to be fair, I don't think it's so bad to discuss these topics with your mum though maybe not tips

Must cost you a fortune! I haven’t had a haircut for 2 years due to the cost so got no chance of regular waxing.

Benjispruce4 · 10/12/2022 20:48

@WaddleAway is hair on your head ok?

Benjispruce4 · 10/12/2022 20:49

@LastNCof2022 sorry not @WaddleAway

In many cultures it's normal for mothers to talk to their daughters about sex and give advice and tips. Good one you are dissing millions of women globally.

name78change · 10/12/2022 21:04

Yep, and vice versa, especially after they split and entered the dating pool themselves

God that's rank!

woodhill · 10/12/2022 21:05

Glad it's not in my culture that's for sure

DarkKarmaIlama · 10/12/2022 21:07

@pocketvenuss

Sorry, still don’t care. It’s not normal to overly share about your sex life with your mum in my opinion and even weirder to get tips off your dad which that poster does but each to their own.

It might be normal in some cultures but so what? In some cultures it’s normal to marry off dirty old men with young girls. Doesn’t make it right.

Nope, if anything the opposite, I didn’t speak to my mum for a couple of years (blamed her for their divorce)

As adults we have a much more friend based relationship, alongside that of mother and daughter, I don’t know many people my age who don’t chat to their mums about sex and well anything, especially single friends who have a much more entertaining sex life, their mums get a lot of info!

Wallywobbles · 10/12/2022 21:10

If you trim it too short it's like Velcro. If you're a user, your panty liner will need ripping off your scratch pad pubis.

woodhill · 10/12/2022 21:10

I must lead a sheltered life

Lalalalala - stick my fingers in my ears if dm overshared anything like that

JackTorrance · 10/12/2022 21:12

Isn't a bald fanny a bit middle-aged and dated now?

DarkKarmaIlama · 10/12/2022 21:12

@Baconsprouts

But you specifically said you talk the most about sex to your dad?

Now I don’t need to chat to anyone about my sex life to be honest and if I did I guess friends and sisters would be the preferred choice over my mother (who I’ve always been very close too). But my dad? Nar.

name78change · 10/12/2022 21:12

"Wow that was great" "thanks, my dad suggested it" that would be mood killer for me...and my DH...

SouperNoodle · 10/12/2022 21:15

I'm the odd one in my friendship group as I prefer to be completely hair free where as they all prefer to go natural.
Hair in any form other than on a head makes me feel ill though. Random loose strands of hair make me retch

DarkKarmaIlama · 10/12/2022 21:16

@name78change

I know right? Oh my dad told me this would be a really good idea…… come off it. I think that family needs some serious counselling intervention if they think that’s even remotely normal. I mean there’s just no suitable content I could imagine would be normal for dads to hear?

sex positions ? No
size of partners penis? No
how to spruce up a dry patch? Again no.

No, no, no.

This has never happened to me, ever 😊

Of course, but you seem to have an issue with people talking to anyone about their sex lives, made incorrect assumptions and are now pivoting.

Not everyone is a repressed being who can’t have a basic chat about sex with other adults who happen to be their parents.

just because it’s not for you doesn’t make it weird for others to have different relationships with their parents as adults.
