What's going on in local Facebook group?

In mine it's mega drama at the moment. A 'big' local weather page has commented on a smaller one that's for an area near by that he's a doom mongerer so the owner of the smaller page has screen shots of the big weather creator talking crap about him. She deleted her comments.

Then a couple of days later she suggests that she should start a patreon for weather updates nearby. And then the smaller page posted about how the bigger page offered to buy his but he'd never sell... very dramatic!

Also dog poo, and a random admin who doesn't live in the country anymore, posting photos of when he did live in the village but it's all changed now so people are asking why he's an admin 😂

My favourite though was when we had an 'air show' nearby at the local rubbishy airport and as the village is under the flight path so many bloody photos of American planes, military planes. Someone got sick of it and just took a photo of a model aeroplane and the chaos that followed was amazing!

Ours is very tightly adminned. No tolerance for hate speech of any kind, promoting your own business allowed only on designated days, no selling.

So it is a fairly mild mix of lost and found cats (nearly always the same ones), community events, when is the new Lidl opening, which traffic lights are not working and endless requests for plumbers and tree surgeons.

Lengthy and predictable discussions about which is the best primary school, total confusion over the new bus routes and numbers (they have been explained clearly and simply and every household has had a leaflet), identical photos of the same local landmark each time there is a good sunrise/sunset.

There's one woman who might be very slightly batty. "I saw a fire engine go down Boring Street just now. My hairdresser's dogsitter's third cousin's mother-in-law lives there and I am so worried. Does anyone know what's happening?" She never gets an adequate response.

The other day had a lovely moment. At almost identical times a woman posted about the beloved toy monkey her son had lost and another woman posted a found photo of it. Monkey and owner reunited within minutes. Local Facebook at its best.

Throughabushbackwards · 10/12/2022 12:35

Our bakery is closed today, mild panic spread via a FB group thread as villagers this morning contemplated having to go to Tesco for bread.

Tidsleytiddy · 10/12/2022 12:42

Lots of people offering fake hair and nail services and lots of people calling each other “hun”

FourChimneys · 10/12/2022 12:44

Throughabushbackwards That reminds me of the panic someone had last year when they noticed that the turkeys were no longer in their farm field. "But we always get our turkeys from there, what are we going to do, Christmas will be ruined" type hysteria that the turkeys had gone to another place.

Followed by plenty of people gently or not so gently explaining that they had all been taken in to be slaughtered.

Asylum seekers in a local hotel. I’ve reported several posters for hate speech but don’t expect it will make any difference. And missing cats, who always turn up completely fine about an hour later.

We must be in the same groups!

CharityShopChic · 10/12/2022 12:45

Our local FB page is literally called "Our Area what's going on".

Local retail chain - M&Co - in administration again and speculation about what will happen to the store. People looking for recommendations of heating engineers. Queries about the notoriously unreliable public transport

PeopleAreTheWorst · 10/12/2022 13:08

Lots of fake posts from 'people' who have just joined the group and fb of missing humans/pets/vehicles with photo of said missing thing. All with comments disabled. Then lots of shares and comments on said post even though several people point out it's a scam or fake post.

CharityShopChic · 10/12/2022 13:14

Why would you join a FB page to post a picture of something not lost? Is this why you have to answer cryptic questions about naming shops in the local high st to get into ours?

Sideorderofchips · 10/12/2022 13:15

People offering help and support to those who need it after a block of flats blew up this morning at 4am

FourChimneys · 10/12/2022 13:25

Sideorderofchips that's lovely. I'm guessing it might be the story on the BBC today, really sad to hear. Communities are really great though, there are always lots of people willing to help.

A family here lost everything in a fire a few years ago. Facebook leapt into action and they were very well provided for.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/12/2022 15:12

We are Having lots of people reporting purses, cards etc found, and ‘if you can tell me the name you can have it back’ - until someone helpfully pointed out that this is theft and actually they should just hand them in to the mall security or police.

and a lot of thank you’s to kind strangers who have paid for people’s shopping, or people’s McDonald’s drive thrus. Lots of uproar that if they were skint then they wouldn’t be going to McDonald’s in the first place.

WrongLife · 10/12/2022 15:20

Asylum seekers in a hotel here as well, I really hope it's the same one as above or there are a lot of awful people in the country

GetOffTheRoof · 10/12/2022 15:45

Warning drink drivers of a police operation nearby. Got deleted after a pile on of people wanting to knew why you'd warn people about this. That was fun.

Local fire brigade put up a photo to show they couldn't respond to a call today because of the usual shit show of incompetent parking (interestingly, its linked to the age restricted housing there!) in a particular road. Lots of questions about why they didn't just ram the cars out the way.

Cats - lost, found, sighted. My mate lilost her shit publicly on there last month with a woman who insists on feeding "all the lost cats". The drama was brilliant.

I once got banned from our local women's group after pointing out to one batshit lady that complaining you can't take your dog into the butchers shop was the epitome of entitled. 😁

MadisonAvenue · 10/12/2022 16:00

The village post office closing because it’s situated in a McColls shop which is closing, it’s the only reason that people go into McColls and there’s always a queue at the PO counter so it’ll be very much missed.

Asylum seekers in a local hotel.

Changes to the train timetables meaning that the last train back now leaves the city too early if you’re going to a concert or whatever.

Peoplewatcheswithcoffee · 10/12/2022 16:40

Ours is usually very mundane. Today there is:

The usual whose escaped cat/ dog/ horse/rabbit / sheep post.

The usual has anyone seen my escaped dog/cat/ rabbit/ horse/ sheep.

There is the daily where can I get coal/ logs from post.

The daily who has space for brows/ lashes/ nails for 2 hours time.

Is there a man with a van who has availablity today to take stuff to the tip/ move house?

There is also the daily choosing begging lady who posts daily begging for various items. Any offers of various items are then judged not good enough by said begging lady. Yesterday it was curtains but she wanted thick, blackout, thermal curtains only in grey or beige as they are the only colours that will go with her aesthetic. Today she is after a balloon arch which must be pastel pink and white and have an age 4 pink balloon attached. So far no balloon arch has emerged...

More interestingly we have a tractor run happening tonight and they have posted their route and approx timings. Lots of people tagging others and commenting going.

Someone is trying to sell their house with lots of land and outbuildings. Have said it is ideal as a family home or for a small kennels/ dog sitting service and want an obscene amount of money for it. It has access via a small lane by permission of the landowner. Lots of people interested, many who are saying on Facebook will be ideal for their dog sitting/ kennel business. Landowner has posted to say they will charge for upkeep of the lane (it's a stone lane not tarmacked) and the access to the house is for private residents and their guests not a business as stated in the deeds and agreement which was drawn up when the house was granted access. House for sale used to belong to the farm many years ago and was sold privately to a tennant farmer many years ago. Absolute drama now with all the Facebook lawyers out. Also other residents on the street saying they will object to any change of use from a family home to business use.

Less interesting but novel: Where can we watch the football posts? Various pubs advertising their drink deals only to be removed hours later. So various pub employees then posts the same advertising post to also be removed by admin.

lljkk · 10/12/2022 16:42

There's a sheep on the footpath.
Or maybe in the lane about half mile outside the village.
I can hardly bear the excitement.

TheIsaacs · 10/12/2022 17:41

Well, we’ve just had a hoo-ha in our village one, resulting in myself and neighbours being kicked out of the group. Our crime? Buying new build houses, we aren’t welcome in the village Facebook group and it’s only for residents of the “original” part of the village. Apparently we are the scum of the earth and shouldn’t buy these new builds as it’s ruining the feel of the village. There’s 6 new builds on a private road, not thousands. Funnily enough no one ever expresses this hate to our faces,

The big one this weekend in the local towns Facebook group is the outrage at the regular markets in the town that close off the high street and cause traffic chaos. Lots of people asking why the markets aren’t confined to the regular one on a Saturday in the market place, instead of extra ones 2-3 times a month closing off the entire town centre.

That's shocking!

WhiteFire · 10/12/2022 20:08

There are at least 5 for my local area and then others for the whole town.

Most are just full of advertising, the others are about crime. Video doorbells are an absolute scourge on society, wrong 'uns have been trying handles on doors to cars and houses since Fred Flintstone realised a car door was a good idea. Posts and posts of said wrong 'uns is not a sign that society has gone down the pan, you just have a picture now.

WhiteFire · 10/12/2022 20:13

Oh and the car crime is never good advice, or about keyless taking. People just think you can leave your car unlocked and then wonder why people rattle the handles.

XenoBitch · 10/12/2022 20:17

I am banned from mine, which is a blessing in disguise really.
During lockdown, someone posted a photo of the lake at a local beauty spot, but with a breaching whale photoshopped onto it.
The amount of people that thought it was real was insane.

vivaespanaole · 10/12/2022 20:21

Dog shit
Badly parked cars
Found bank cards

And repeat

StrikeandRobin · 10/12/2022 20:22

Wow, just looked and it's in Australia hoping properly investigated!!

The party in the park makes more sense now, I was thinking it’s a bit cold for someone of that age to be sitting outside risking hypothermia!

KevinsChilli · 10/12/2022 20:27

My old area had to set up a new “official” group because the current one the admin for some reason couldn’t access it so it was just endless trolling.
Otherwise it was dog poo, who’s cat is this, and we also had the “asylum seekers at the local hotel” hate.

santastolemycat · 10/12/2022 20:32

Not mine but a family member told me on that someone who clearly was a city dweller before moving to the village was complaining about the horses crapping on the road and it not being picked up 😂😂
