What's going on in local Facebook group?

In mine it's mega drama at the moment. A 'big' local weather page has commented on a smaller one that's for an area near by that he's a doom mongerer so the owner of the smaller page has screen shots of the big weather creator talking crap about him. She deleted her comments.

Then a couple of days later she suggests that she should start a patreon for weather updates nearby. And then the smaller page posted about how the bigger page offered to buy his but he'd never sell... very dramatic!

Also dog poo, and a random admin who doesn't live in the country anymore, posting photos of when he did live in the village but it's all changed now so people are asking why he's an admin 😂

My favourite though was when we had an 'air show' nearby at the local rubbishy airport and as the village is under the flight path so many bloody photos of American planes, military planes. Someone got sick of it and just took a photo of a model aeroplane and the chaos that followed was amazing!

It’s the local Councillor’s fault that more people want to use the leisure centre since the Council improved it, so why is the local Councillor asking for people to park considerately?

State of the Christmas trees in the 2 towns I live between. Absolute state of them!

Cats. So many cats, catting about. Paper Collar and Trap Lady in her element.

VioletCharlotte · 10/12/2022 11:21

People posting to ask if anyone knows of any jobs going.

A big discussion about how crap the Santa's grotto is in the town centre this year.

Some very gushy posts about the kindness of the shop assistant in home bargains/ person who 'paid forward' a coffee at Starbucks (nice, but a bit cringey!)

Stolen bikes/ tools

Lost trainer/cats/ knickers (yes, really!)

People looking for recommendations for carpenters/gas engineers/ nail technicians

goldfishthecracker · 10/12/2022 11:24

@WeAreTheHeroes yes! I left then too it is disgusting. He just keeps popping up as admin on random pages around the area until someone notices and then he gets removed honestly it's so bizarre. He must take ages to essays the admins to make him one! What a waste of time!

Last week we had a lot of really upset people because the parish council put the Christmas lights on with some fireworks and despite having 4 weeks notice of the fireworks people still complained about their dog.

We've got a dog that "escapes" on a regular basis.

Someone well-meaning posts a picture of this poor lost dog and then there will be 100s of posts either "don't worry about lovely Boris, he finds his way home" or "irresponsible owners should be hung"

this awesome local old guy 78 got slammed to the ground by the police. Fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

the community has been rallying round and supportive and he is back up and active, holding a party in the park

Oh my word that's awful!

@HeddaGarbled the one for my hometown has a "Asylum Seekers in Hotel" thing going and it's got horribly nasty and some of the worst racism I have ever read.
I am having to do the Facebook Group version of biting my tongue and staying out of it.
It's just horrible to read.

What? Shouldn't that have made national news?!

NerrSnerr · 10/12/2022 11:28

Our village is full of good deeds. There's a hamper group who give out Christmas hampers to a large proportion of the village at Christmas. the quality of hamper varies and some people just got a couple of cans of iron Bru last year.

There's always a rumbling argument at Christmas and Easter over charity chocolate collections as two families have needed children's charities and they both collect for them and it gets a bit arsey if one does better than the other.

It is a very charitable place I live but it's all very competitive and who can be the best.

Nixnjj1 · 10/12/2022 11:40

I'm hoping we are all in the same town for the refuges in hotel. Reading the hate is awful but to think it is being repeated all over is terrifying. b

closingscore · 10/12/2022 11:43

Everybody's raging about a potential housing development on some open countryside on the edge of town. A couple of roads that have had lovely open views since they were built 40 years ago will be scuppered if it goes ahead. They are currently doing an archaeological report...

closingscore · 10/12/2022 11:47

Oh there's also a debate on ours about dog shit - someone had their bin emptied and cleaned on Thursday, and someone walked past Friday morning and put some bagged dog poo in it. Mixed responses.

SunflowerSmith · 10/12/2022 11:49

There's another weather one run by a crazy woman, she writes huge posts which are meant to be funny but aren't and from time to time asks for money which doesn't go down well.
She once got drunk and pretended to be her friend who had got hold of her phone and put a huge post about how amazing she is and how she deserves donations.
She was quickly rumbled and took the post down.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 10/12/2022 11:50

We have a new conspiracy going on that the nasal flu spray has caused this outbreak of Strep A and Scarlet Fever and that's why children are so ill this year and why 16 have died. It seems lost on the poster that approx 370 people died of the same in 2017/2018 as he is sure it is down to the new flu spray. Sigh....

Hobbesmanc · 10/12/2022 11:50

Ours is generally quite civilised. Mods are robust and organised. There's no selling or spam. Anything contentious tend to get taken down quickly so whilst it's respectful it's also a little sanitised.

SadLy car break ins and attempted break ins are all too common. Cats and foxes get lots of posts. And parking ones often with a pixilated photo. And food bank requests.

SilverSalver · 10/12/2022 11:51

Ours is very mundane.
Who has logs for sale?
Oil deliveries.
Sheep out of field.
Sheep stuck.
Dog poo.
Missing cats.
Evri parcels.
The Evri guy lives in the next village and he works really hard and posts on FB if he's off work. Unfortunately he can't get staff and it's not him that loses the parcels. He often posts late at night that he's been out until 10pm and the rest will have to wait.

FuckMyLife2022 · 10/12/2022 11:53

Moaning about aircraft noise - there’s a few that never shut up whining but the vast majority of us aren’t bothered by it. It’s a few hours in the morning and evening. I moved here from a busy city centre and it’s deathly silent to me, even during the peak landing/take off times!

BigCheeseSandwich · 10/12/2022 11:57

A new playground is causing bunfights here. It replaced a fetid pond and a lot of people were attached to the pond because they had memories of sailing toy boats on it in 1953. Seeing children enjoying the new space is making them unhappy.

NorthernSoul55 · 10/12/2022 11:59

Not - missing cats, phantom dog shitters ('it must be a big dog'), has anyone got my parcel, what was the ambulance doing on X Street last night, grainy cctv photos of would be burglars who their mother's wouldn't recognise, fly tipping.
It gets exciting after the first snowfall with hourly updates on one particular local road. Some wag always asks the question in July.

BusySittingDown · 10/12/2022 12:01

Always missing cats/found cats and missing dogs/found dogs. Why are people so irresponsible?

The admin of our village FB group posts a daily (usually shit) joke.

There's another group that is overrun by trolls. They usually post about made up events eg. Christmas Market in the Village Square with a list of really awesome things to see and do, accompanied by Christmassy photos. People that are new to the local area will post saying "ooh, what time is this on?" and tag their mates.

goldfishthecracker · 10/12/2022 01:12

@watcherintherye Grin I love the stolen/ missing cat ones. There's a bengal in the village who acts like he's starving and very neglected but his owner just posts 'yes he's a knob, yes he has a house, don't feed him'

I wonder if you are near me, I'm in east sussex, small village outside a small town

AclowncalledAlice · 10/12/2022 12:02

There's carnage on ours at the moment.
There is a 3 meter (yep 3), section of the only main road in and out of the village closed off meaning that those who live one end are having to do a 5 mile diversion to get to the village primary at the other end....see also the village shop which is at the opposite end of the village to the school. To add to the chaos one of the alternative diversion routes also has a bit closed off so even the diversion has a diversion. On top of (or because of), that half the village have not had their bins emptied. The amount of FUMING and DISCUSTED comments is amazing.

AclowncalledAlice · 10/12/2022 12:08

Posted too soon.
The entire length of the village is a mile and there is a huge carpark just before the road closure, but apparently it's too much to drive to the car park and walk the to the school 5 minutes away for some. "I can't be expected to drive an extra 5 miles in the opposite direction to where I work" is the theme of many a comment.

What? Shouldn't that have made national news?!

Would have thought so! He was doing absolutely nothing and police body slam him and he ends up with fracture to skull but has now recovered well enough to throw a party in the park?

Notjustabrunette · 10/12/2022 12:16

Someone complaining about their roads not being gritted. Then 100’s of posts, including photos of gritter lorries.
lost cats. Found cats.
what the council are doing about a piece of waste land - followed by posts for and against using it for flats.
