Shows that go stupid

So I've become addicted to Lie To Me. Started brilliant, ended up fucking ridiculous. I can see why season 4 didn't happen.
Like the mentalist - loved it, cried when he found Red John and killed him in the cafe. But no! They had to carry on and rewrite that.

The Affair.

I think it suffered because of the same issue as The Mentalist.

When you start a shower where there's a killer/murder, you either have to solve it at the end of the first series and have a new mystery for each series, OR you keep the one mystery/killer and solve it at THE END.

You don't catch the bad guy/solve the mystery mid-series then try and keep it going after.

NippyWoowoo · 09/12/2022 22:17

Show not 🚿 😂

BadgeronaMoped · 09/12/2022 22:18

30 Rock went on too long, I loved it, but it lost something towards the end. I have no idea why the Simpsons is still being made...

I am glad they only made 2 series of Spaced.

Prison Break. Can't remember the season it went shit but it definitely did.

Oh yes! I loved the first, liked the second, then felt it went a bit blah. The problem was (with the show being called Prison Break) they had to keep trying to get him back into prisons. At the end of season 5 he’s broke out of about 10 prisons! But it starts to just feel daft. And in the first there were loads of twists and turns and he did clever tricks to get out, plus there’s an element of believability because he had access to the blueprints through his workplace and a whole year to plan and prepare! By the later ones he’s just escaping random prisons in really unbelievable ways.

Shameless should have hung up its hat after two series. Instead it chundered on for about another 10.

Yes! I always felt like the ending of The Mentalist was in the cafe and they had to really scrabble to change it and carry on

This is a great little video about ' jumping the shark '

woodhill · 09/12/2022 22:22

Waterloo,Road got ridiculous especially when it relocated to Scotland

Will it be back in Rochdale in the new series?

twilightcafe · 09/12/2022 22:23

Strictly has turned into a parody of itself.
All the characters in Call the Midwife have run out of steam.

Superstore was my lockdown binge watch so maybe I just watched too much but it got a bit boring and samey after the sexual tension ended. (Don't want to post spoilers!)

😧we have watched it through many times. Each time we notice a different link from episode 1 to the final.

Appalonia · 09/12/2022 22:25

This is why certain comedy series remain classics as they ended before they jumped the shark. Faulty Towers, The Young Ones, The Office.

As if minxy Trixie would have spent a decade living in a that convent.

Wallstick · 09/12/2022 22:32

Idk if it counts but my name is Earl was cancelled on a cliffhanger. Hated that.

Iceyiceybaby · 09/12/2022 22:34

The American office after Michael leaves.

Still enjoyable but Frasier isn't as good after Niles and Daphne get together

Superstore last season or so

Community just gets too weird

I'd say it's the opposite as we still wanted more 😭😭

How did I find this man attractive?!?!

That's one of the sexiest things I've ever seen.
Tense
Active
Short shorts
Leather jacket
Shark

Im in

TheMildManneredMilitant · 09/12/2022 22:37

X files. 3 seasons onwards and any time Scully says 'you're wrong Mulder cos science' you just think come on woman, you were attacked by a 100 year old liver-eating mutant, a prisoner on death row channeled your dead dad, and you were beamed up on a spaceship. It's not that much of a stretch to get that there's an alien bounty hunter on the loose or those murders are being conducted by that dude's conjoined twin.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 09/12/2022 22:41

I became icked out by My Name Is Earl once I read that all the episodes were based on Scientology teachings.

Appalonia, yes - and Black Books, IT Crowd, Detectorists (although we have a Christmas episode to look forward to), Dinnerladies.

Others that overran - Monarch of the Glen, Ballykissangel, original All Creatures Great and Small.

Arrested Development

The stupid changes in later series were so unnecessary.

Yesssss. I love the early series of Arrested Development, can't say how many times I've watched them all. But after Netflix bought it everything went tits up, even after they rewrote and jiggled about with the penultimate series to try and salvage it! I feel like Michael's character changed so much in the last series that he was no longer likeable or relatable to.

DuncanBiscuits · 09/12/2022 22:47

Only Fools and Horses should have ended when they became millionaires. It was crap when it came back.

Orange is the New Black. I LOVED it for the first few seasons and then... WTF?

The final season was dire! Didn’t finish it

Ciri · 09/12/2022 22:55

Lost - the ultimate disappointment. At least it only turned shite in the last episodes and was good until then

CallMeBubbleDarling · 09/12/2022 23:04

Definitely Glee and prison break. Also became really disappointed with scrubs and smallville after about season 5. But the worst for me is the Royle Family. The first couple of seasons were brilliant and then the characters just became bizarre imitations of themselves. It was dire by the end.
