Petty things that annoy you on Mumsnet.

What little things on MN annoy you more than they should?

People responding to others on a thread but not quoting them so I have to scroll back pages and hunt for the comment that they were responding to.

People referring to 3 and 4 year olds as toddlers.

If someone's posts annoy me and their name involves something that I love, then that bothers me even more.

The one poster who always responds to a "What's your favourite episode of a show? or What's your favourite dish from the Chinese takeaway?or similar threads by informing us how much they hate takeaways or wouldn't watch said show if they had a gun held to their head.

The phrase "Give your head a wobble." It's utterly infuriating.

Mostly OPs who don't give enough information (or return to answer key questions) to make an informed opinion so whatever the first reply says the majority go with, without using any critical thinking skills.

I think it's probably deliberate in most cases but it really irritates me

determinedtomakethiswork · 08/12/2022 09:09

When there is a really long opening post, and the very next person quotes it and then makes a one sentence comment.

Brunilde · 08/12/2022 09:15

People that completely derail a thread by picking up on a tiny detail in the OP and using it to try and show the OP up. Rather than just answer the question.

I feel like some posters think they are being personally asked for their opinion. If it doesn't relate to you scroll on by.

Example: I'm arranging a baby shower, what type of food do you think we should go for?

I hate baby showers, they are so tacky.

It doesn't make you look clever, it makes you look ridiculous with nothing better to do.

OneForTheRoadThen · 08/12/2022 09:21

People who finish their message with a HTH followed by a Hmm face. It always reminds me of a 4 year old saying 'so there'

miceonabranch · 08/12/2022 09:23

People who seize upon some minor thing in the OP's first post then use that to belittle them and have a go at them which sets an unpleasant tone for the rest of the thread.

People who don't check their posts for errors before posting so the resulting post makes no sense and you spend ages trying to work out what they're saying.

Really long posts without paragraphs.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 08/12/2022 09:24

People spelling breathe as breath and lose as loose. People apostrophising dates and names, for example 1980's and in my daughter's class there are four Ava's.

WhenDovesFly · 08/12/2022 09:24

People who create a thread, provide a long OP asking advice.....then disappear. Usually, others come on asking some questions for clarity, but the OP is never seen again.

Those who ask "and what did he say when you confronted him about it", or something similar.

The brutally rude responses such as "keep your beak out".

People who are vague in their OP and completely ignore further posters who ask questions for clarity.

As mentioned in the OP here, those who don't quote what they're responding to, so we've no idea what the original question/comment was.

Plmoknijbuhv · 08/12/2022 09:26

I dislike it where people correct spelling or grammar of other posters

Daydreamer12345 · 08/12/2022 09:26

People who start their post with, ‘I just don’t understand why you……’ when it’s obvious they mean I think you’re an idiot.
So patronising and really annoys me

ShesThunderstorms · 08/12/2022 09:26

Ahhh shit I'm an annoying person that refers to my 3 year old as a toddler! I thought 3 was still toddler land! Wonder if people have been rolling their eyes at me 🤦🏼‍♀️

WhenDovesFly · 08/12/2022 09:27

Those that post in AIBU and the title of their thread is.....AIBU? I refuse to click on those ones.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 08/12/2022 09:27

Reverses, OPs in AIBU who are overwhelmingly told they are BU and get arsey about it, posters who quote the entire lengthy OP in their reply.

And of course the stuff that irritates me wherever I see it, like “should of” or a total lack of comprehensible punctuation.

Daydreamer12345 · 08/12/2022 09:29

Also people who post in AIBU when they really aren’t asking and get very defensive and annoyed when posters disagree with them.
Although, generally find some very shitty responses on AIBU

A 3 year old is a toddler in my eyes. I don't get why someone would even be annoyed at that!

hopeishere · 08/12/2022 09:29

I agree with the quoting the opening post particularly when it's the second reply!!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 08/12/2022 09:29

DD, DH, DS are fine.

DDog, DAunt, DCat are NOT. Just why??

Namaste6 · 08/12/2022 09:30

The obvious lazy journalists on here, who try to think and write like a genuine mumsnetter for material but stick out like a sore thumb 😂

PettyAndIKnowIt · 08/12/2022 09:32

Babies become toddlers when they turn 1 year old and stop being toddlers when they turn 3. After that they're pre-schoolers or just three year olds though threenagers sums them up perfectly.

This post annoys me 🥱

I doubt that most people know or care so you're fine. Smile It's just a personal petty little thing that bugs me.

Who makes the rules on this stuff?

preschooler is an American term.

And don’t even get me started on threenager…!

BamBamBilla · 08/12/2022 09:35

Anyone who puts the subject line in the AIBU board 'to be doing this' or 'AIBU' or some other vague title which doesn't actually explain the subject matter of the discussion.

PuttingDownRoots · 08/12/2022 09:36

Ops without a pertinent piece of information that completely changes the situation.... and then get completely huffy over multiple replies suggesting the obvious which is impossible in that situation

bestbefore · 08/12/2022 09:36

That all children are "very bright", no one ever says my child is a bit dim....all MN kids are grade 9 students 🙄

Alexandernevermind · 08/12/2022 09:36

Spelling and grammar police - just patronising and awful.
Posters who decide to take great personal offence because you dare to have am opinion different to theirs.
