Is this about William?

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 07/12/2022 12:16

There are hierarchies in all walks of life.

Hooverphobe · 07/12/2022 12:17

He’ll be devastated when he learns there’s a hierarchy in the forces too. Poor wee laddie.

It's almost as if the monarchy hasn't changed in a millennia

WhiteFire · 07/12/2022 12:21

Of course there is. Are we supposed to be shocked by this?

chipsandpeas · 07/12/2022 12:25

no shit

peaceandove · 07/12/2022 12:26

Yes, and in other news the Pope admits to being Catholic.

Pandor · 07/12/2022 12:31

Easy to mock but can you imagine growing up being constantly told your sibling outranks you and is more important? Having to bow to members of your family? It is a fucked up institution to be born into.

Georgeskitchen · 07/12/2022 12:35

Everything has a hierarchy. The RF is a business like any other. There is the CEO at the top of the ladder, then all the downward rungs until you get to the minions at the bottom.
What family members does Harry have to bow to?

BellePeppa · 07/12/2022 12:39

Proof if it was ever needed that Harry is very slow on the uptake. It’s hardly front page news. Maybe he thought getting to be king or queen was an equal opportunity for anyone who wanted it.

Ann has behaved admirably being in the same situation. She even had to defer to her brothers just because she’s a female. But then Ann has a backbone of steel not like lilly livered Hawwy.

Yes but by accepting titles he’s showing he’s happy to accept grovelling from all the normal people outside the family, he just doesn’t like being on the wrong side of it.
If he wants to ditch hierarchy altogether I will have respect for his choice. I too think the system sucks. But by grumbling about it while reaping the benefits he’s just being a hypocrite.

Quite! You only have to look at the Stately Homes thread to know how deeply damaging it is to have a Golden Child in the family dynamic.

Anyway, in the trailer, he's not complaining about it and saying he's only just found out. He's stating is as fact. When the documentary is released and we have the context around the statement, we'll know what he's talking about.

It's amazing how many opinions people have on this when they don't know what's in it and haven't watched it. They seem quite happy to be guided by the media and what they want everyone to think about it. They've certainly got everyone's knickers in a twist! So well done to the tabloids!

Hooverphobe · 07/12/2022 12:45

@BellePeppa pretty sure they think it’s down to the public vote and that they will be crowned king and queen of love island.

Persimmo · 07/12/2022 12:46

I look forward to hearing more of his pearls of wisdom..

Pandor · 07/12/2022 12:47

He has been born and raised in a fucked up environment, I don’t think it is surprising that he has emerged a bit fucked up by it all. He is clearly a flawed human being and is struggling to work through a shed load of stuff about his role in life, his relationships with his family and people around him.

I’m not particularly interested in him or the rest of them, but I don’t feel like chucking stones either. It all looks pretty miserable.

SirChenjins · 07/12/2022 12:48

Probably a bit like the army that he enjoyed so much.

Thank goodness for this pair - without them I wouldn't know the order in which to breathe in and out.

MichelleScarn · 07/12/2022 12:48

Whoever's at the top of this hierarchy should get to wear a hat or something to show their status...
Agree with pp he's happy with hierarchy when others are bowing/deferring to him is he not?

well I have grown up in a country where we have a monarchy and had to be a 'subject' so i find the 5th in line to the throne whining about how unjust it all is extremely irritating. They accepted the titles = they accept the hierarchy. Can't have it both ways

And so have all members of 'The Firm' for generations. The fact that Harry seems to have the view he's unique and the first ever member of the RF to be treated like this is bizarre.

Harry only has to bow to them (those above him, the Waleses and the King and Queen) because, in accepting his own titles, he accepts being part of the hierarchy. If he became an ordinary citizen, he wouldn't have to - no one can be forced - I'm damn sure I wouldn't bow or curtsey to any of them.

GloomyDarkness · 07/12/2022 12:56

It does suggest reports he's not he brightest may be true.

Having said that though I do think when there's just two children the comparisons between them can be much harsher and more frequent something we've seen in our wider family - and something many parents are aware and work to avoid. This and the huge media spotlight these two princes were in perhaps it was inevitable there would be problems and perhaps he did need more support to find a role though many consorts and siblings have managed to find their own paths in that family.

Absolutely yes, to all of this. A plague on all their royal houses.

Isn’t the point that it fucks everyone up, even those that embrace it. Certainly seems to result in a succession of failed marriages.

The world has changed enormously, and I would argue that there is an increasing disconnect between modern day life and the expectations of life as a member of the Royals. It is clearly increasingly archaic, and slowly becoming almost impossible to defend.

A trickle that starts with messed up discontented members like Harry could easily become a flood as younger Royals face their own struggles trying to make sense of it all in a 21st Century environment.

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/12/2022 13:02

HRHs don't bow to each other. Protocol would require him to bow to the King and Queen on first meeting of the day, but not to anyone else in the family (he would bow to foreign monarchs).

I agree that context is important here. Is he complaining or explaining? Much of the audience will be American and not as familiar with the ins and outs of royal family life and protocol as British audiences are.
