They are yoonique and speshul for sure......and I'm surprised he was able to spell hierarchy 😄

Ladeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez and Gennelmen. I give to you the 21st Century version of poor old John Lackland!

Rich almost beyond compare. Privileged bird in a gilded cage. And still he hurts.

He has had the same coaching, psychological preparation, schooling, training and access to whatever he could have desired.

Many cynics will note that his hairiest of hair shirts was prepped for use when he stopped being the Spare!

Poor old Harry Lackland.

Maybe his Aunty Anne, who chose to be Annie Lackland and even enforced it on her own kiddie widdies, could have a word about how to fail to be born first with good grace.

Less sarcastically, I get it. He is emotionally scarred, seared for life. He has failed to thrive within his family remit. Who can blame him for that. But his self destructive choices? meh! Time to grow up Harry! Find yourself a less LaLa Land therapist and accept the shit you have internalised! It's part of you! Not someone elses shame!

Easy to mock but can you imagine growing up being constantly told your sibling outranks you and is more important? Having to bow to members of your family? It is a fucked up institution to be born into.

I think a lot more people had to bow to him than the other way around.

Why doesn't he go and get a job in an Amazon warehouse? He'd soon learn the meaning of hierarchy then, when his manager is bollocking him for failing to pack 23,000 items an hour and visiting the toilet.

Choconut · 07/12/2022 13:15

Ahh I'm not surprised this has come up at all, Meghan is a social climber who thought she'd reached the top by marrying a prince. Then she found out she still wasn't top of the tree......she'll stop at nothing to pull down those above her by making them look as bad as possible IMO. It wouldn't surprise me at all if her aim is to topple the monarchy now while making herself look like a victim and the good guy - a narc scorned really has no limits.

peaceandove · 07/12/2022 13:18

If Harry is so uncomfortable with the concept of hierarchy why was he supposedly so happy in the army, where he would have had lower ranks saluting him a dozen times a day?

Exactly. And I fully believe the theory that bad stories about William were buried by leaking bad stories about Harry. That is going to fuck someone up, and goes beyond who gets to walk into a room first, wear the fanciest costume or get the nicest house.

Maireas · 07/12/2022 13:22

Meghan said "we upset the hierarchy just by existing" so there's clearly a lot gone on there, which may be clarified in their Netflix series.

That's been going on for a long time.
There were always photos of Harry as a teen and young man in compromised positions involving drinking and drugs etc. His photos were in the papers.
No photos like that of Willaim, or even Kate really. A couple shots of them getting into cars after nights out but nothing salacious. And the younger royals were all trying drugs and drinking. Not just Harry.
I dated someone who worked in royal security during their teen/youn adult years and drugs and drink were all over the place. The only photos the press published were of Harry up to no good.

I absolutely believe that that just continued. To cover up things about william, theyd leak info about Harry and then Meghan when she entered the scene.

Imagine the horror of growing up 2nd to your sibling with only £30 million to help put the pieces of your life back together and the best therapists money can buy. 😭

My soul weeps for him.

I was the family scapegoat and I have a lovely life ta. With £30 million and diplomatic immunity I’d have built a mansion in the Yukon and disappeared.

poor wee hair-plugged laddie.

I don't think he has necessarily handled things well, and frankly I find him a bit irritating - but there is no amount of money I would trade for my uncomplicated and unconditionally loving relationship with my parents.

Be the scapegoat on the world stage. Then watch your wife also used in the same way.

That doesnt mean they did do anything wrong and want things they were never going to get. Thee is fault on both sides. But he was the family scapegoat on the world stage and so was his wife.

antelopevalley · 07/12/2022 13:35

There is a clear hierarchy.
But being called the spare as a child and knowing you are way less important than your brother as a child can not be good for anyone. It is designed to create issues.

Sorry Hoover, maybe that reply was a bit shitty, I wasn't meaning to compare your family with mine.

I do think that the money (that won't even pay enough security for the threats he and his wife and children have faced) is compensation enough.

Namechangeagain000 · 07/12/2022 13:38

Most spares have just run with their role and enjoyed their lives. The Queen's father is probably the most recent example I can think of where a 'spare' preferred life as the 'spare' over being the heir.

If you want a quiet unassuming life you can have a quiet unassuming life, he doesn't. It comes across as a little bit of sibling rivalry coupled with marrying an American who doesn't understand the UK and an actress who enjoys the limelight, but doesn't understand the limelight of royalty.

antelopevalley · 07/12/2022 13:38

I mean I can not imagine allowing my children to be brought up with the belief that one is more important and the other is the spare in case the first one dies. When you really think about it it is awful.

Hooverphobe · 07/12/2022 13:38

@JenniferBarkley point is - millions of us have a shitty upbringing, but somehow we find internal peace.

him and his wife are a pair of self-serving fuds.

JenniferBarkley · 07/12/2022 13:39

Lots of people with shitty upbringings don't find internal peace though. Or take many years to get there.

Namechangeagain000 · 07/12/2022 13:40

The whole family knows their rank and who gets what when their predecessors die. That's our class system for you. I don't get the impression Harry wants to be King but I get the impression Meghan wants to be Queen.

Seems to have fucked Margaret up. She spent her life drinking, taking drugs, and having affairs with lots of men. Not the signs of a happy life.

loislovesstewie · 07/12/2022 13:45

But I don't think that he has the intelligence to make a role for himself within the Royal family. He seemed to like being a clown prince, the bit of a lad, but couldn't get beyond that to think that he could do any serious work. I'm not counting the army because, quite frankly, I'm not sure how much he really did. I've heard various reports from people who say they know and it seems a lot of it was exaggerated. The ones who do have some brains and make another life for themselves seem to be happier. But Harry had no obvious talent, and now he opens his mouth and proves he has little brain as well.

antelopevalley · 07/12/2022 13:51

Harry was happy in the army and wanted to be an ordinary soldier bot for obvious reasons could not be.

but when given the choice of marrying who she really wanted or keeping her royal title, she kept the titles - maybe her lifestyle was the result of that decision, who knows

antelopevalley · 07/12/2022 13:54

@chipsandpeas Maybe she couldn't envisage a different life? In general most humans would rather stay in a bad situation they know, than take a risk where they do not know the outcome.

Pandor · 07/12/2022 13:56

One thing seems clear. The world is full of pointless ‘slebs saying silly things, or dealing (with varying success) with inner demons, the double edged sword or fame, wealth etc.

The world is also full of genuinely awful, dangerous people. Proper corruption, vindictiveness, genuinely horrific behaviour.

Against this background Harry and Meghan seem to generate a level of opprobium that is out of all proportion to whatever supposed wrongs they have committed!

A bit silly, privileged, lacking self awareness - absolutely. But look at the amount of traffic they generate! Why are they so triggering to people that this couple are the focus of so much attention, when so many other people are arguably far more worthwhile targets?

They are currently the couple people love to hate, occupying some sort of pantomime villain status that no longer bears any relation to their actual actions.
