Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

I love it here to, BNBN. This is Women's Country.

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/12/2022 17:47

Posted before I'd finished.

BNBN, I agree about keeping up this thread and the FWR one. It's lovely knowing that this thread is here to return to, to see the posters we've known so long, and I do think the FWR thread works well. I'm wondering if having a 'general conversation' thread is bringing more people into the subject, but I'm not sure. It's certainly quite lively at times.

bignosebignose · 17/12/2022 17:49

I’m very grateful to be accepted as a tourist.

bignosebignose · 17/12/2022 17:49

(That was a reply to Women’s Country.)

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/12/2022 17:53

It's nice to have you here.

There's a Sheri Tepper novel called The Gate to Women's Country, where the women live separately from most of the men, who are Warriors, and live in the garrison. Some of them realise early on that they can't live in the garrison and return to Women's Country. They're the good guys. It turns out that the women are trying to get rid of the warriors all together by selective breeding. Ironic when you consider here and the Other Place.

In the Old Country, there was the Girlfriends thread that started out as one poster's search for love and ended up as a general chat thread where you could pour your heart out, be whimsical, have a rant (though I guess AIBU serves the latter here) or discuss pets, hobbies etc.

A General Life & Whimsy thread on here that might attract posters from outside our little group might be good, though I gather it's not how Mumsnet works.

I've dipped my toe in a few threads in an attempt to spread out and settle in.

SinnerBoy · 17/12/2022 18:32

I've been on loads of threads, some just lurking, but posting, too.

Britinme · 17/12/2022 18:57

I've spread out into a few different threads too. I like it here.

There are some threads with vague-sounding titles which could be general chit-chat, but I couldn't be sure.

<Grabs beer and manspreads all over Mumsnet>

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 17/12/2022 19:53

Yeah, be careful Mach.

The scarcity of Officer Class Englishmen here is - not a disadvantage imo.

mach2 · 17/12/2022 20:03

I'm more your "ow much?" class Yorkshireman 😆

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 17/12/2022 20:11

I had started to observe how much status anxiety was underpinning a lot of the nastiness. It isn't just women they fear and resent.

mach2 · 17/12/2022 20:19

Sorry elders, gin has dulled my senses - do you mean a certain set in the Old Country?

I grew up with those. Short arms and long pockets. Also the grimly determined "Ah've paid for this so I'll eat it" even if it's not good.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 17/12/2022 20:23

a certain set in the Old Country?

aye

That's us! 🤣🤣

Gotcha.

But not just there, it's all over the UK media and the web. James O'Brien is very much that type - unavoidable probably, given the school he went to. The sad thing is, he knows the school was horribly abusive, but doesn't seem able to free himself from the mould.

"What? You mean it's not standard educational practice to have ones naked buttocks whipped while wearing a Dolly Parton wig?'

IReallyLikeCrows · 17/12/2022 20:51

Evening all, I'm in my new home! It's f cold because - for now - it's night storage heating so no heat until tomorrow. Thankfully I was able to find my small space heater so it's not too bad. It was -6° in Hurstpierpoint last night and -4° when we went to pick up the van at 8am. It's slightly warmer here and when it hit 5° it felt positively balmy!

Bad things. The aerial socket is one of those screw in dinosaur ones so no TV for me and no strictly final. I'll watch it tomorrow with Snoop who's singing in her chamber choir. Francis was not happy. Stayed in his swanky cat carrier long after I'd freed him from the bathroom. He's finally wandering around and currently in the bedroom with me. I'm in bed because it's warm and listening to radio 4.

Good things. I'm near the sea. I saw a fox sleeping on a flat roof. I went to Morrisons for the first time ever, there's one five minutes away, and it's semi magical. So cheap! Shops are close by. I've met a neighbour who seems nice. My ex neighbour got in touch - her husband moved me and she did the final clean up (I paid them but am hugely grateful to them) - and we miss each other. Young woman who works in the village chemist but who I used to chat with when she was still at school, phoned me so I still have contact with the only people I'll miss. It's just nice here. Needs some decorating, teeniest kitchen so I've dumped a full oven for microwave, portable induction hob and an air fryer all of which will save me money. It's going to be a good home and I'm lucky to be here.

I've added the fox for your delight!

Awwwwww! Sleepy fox is so cute. It's great that you feel good in your new home - storage heating notwithstanding!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 17/12/2022 21:14

oh lovely.

I hope you're really happy in your new home - great to be in before Christmas.

CyanCyan · 17/12/2022 21:18

Aww congratulations on your new home @IReallyLikeCrows.

I counted five foxes playing in the garden here a few nights ago making an almighty racket. Not sure if they were playing or fighting, it was very exciting to watch.
