Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

I dread the time that I have to move (there is so much junk in this house). I hope all goes smoothly @IReallyLikeCrows !

duc748 · 15/12/2022 23:58

I moved up here in 2017 and am delighted with my new home. It's made a massive difference to my mental health, and I hope it works out as well for you, Crows.

Tricyrtis2022 · 16/12/2022 07:13

Good luck to the moving people, I hope it all goes smoothly!

It's -6.7C here, ugh. The forecast rain on Sunday is going to make an ice rink.

SinnerBoy · 16/12/2022 07:54

It's gone up a degree since I got up, though it's still dark. -4°

Dotellhimpike · 16/12/2022 08:10

Just woke up after a good solid 8 hours sleep, the first in at least a week. Feel pretty good for it too, am just about to have a cuppa, watch the latest episode of The Traitors then give serious though to going back to bed with a book and a pile o' cats.

Kucingsparkles · 16/12/2022 08:47

Good luck with the move @IReallyLikeCrows and congratulations on your completed house purchase @Dotellhimpike !

It was DDs school Christmas concert last night. In between each act while the bands etc were setting up, the tech staff played little filler clips of festive music. And lo! The school Whamageddoned an entire audience in one fell swoop. Just as well we were already out, but I swear I heard a ripple of groans going through the theatre.

Morning, campers. Are we allowed to suggest ways to get a free bottle of champagne while simultaneously damaging the bank account of a rightwing media organ (albeit one which has a decent track record on a particular subject) on here? If so the Speccie has its regular offer of 12 issues for as many pounds but with a free bottle of bubbly thrown in. Their website forward slash santa. Plus diary note to cancel within three months....

mach2 · 16/12/2022 10:06

Morning movers and shakers - good luck with said moving and shaking. I've been having thoughts of trying to buy somewhere but my age (mid-fifties) and likely deposit make my choices narrow. Interest rates have altered the maths towards unfavourable even more.

I'll have another cuppa and a think. 😆

Dotellhimpike · 16/12/2022 10:24

I'm 58 Mach, and yes, my choices were limited but luckily here in the North East £100,000 can still get you a decent little house in a quiet area within commuting distance of the city.

mach2 · 16/12/2022 10:28

That's my problem - I want to keep living in this overpriced area 😆

It's for the friends I have here as much as anything. I wonder about those former cafes along the A1that no one seems to want...

Tricyrtis2022 · 16/12/2022 10:32

I find myself wondering along similar lines, mach. If I'm ever in a large empty office, for example, I start planning how to make it habitable.

There’s a whole thread dedicated to things like this somewhere. Unhelpfully I can’t remember what it’s called!

Sounds great!

Kucingsparkles · 16/12/2022 12:21

It's still bitterly cold hereabouts, minus something ºC. All the grass was white and crispy, clear skies overnight and lots of stars visible.

But it's going to be 15ºC on Monday, which is a relief in terms of heating costs but is very surprising too.

Proper brass monkey weather in central London. I just dashed out for a sandwich and it is chilly but beautiful - clear sunshine, sparkling frost and clean clean air.

Stone the crows guv, it's a real pea-souper!

duc748 · 16/12/2022 12:35

In this weather, I have completely revised my guidelines about getting up in the morning and doing shit. Last night I managed a luxurious ten hours in bed, and don't feel the slightest bit guilty! 😀

mach2 · 16/12/2022 12:39

I used my remaining holiday to take every Friday off for the last ten weeks. It's been great. If I could afford to I'd happily do four day weeks.

duc748 · 16/12/2022 12:39

A mild spell would give me the chance to fire the bike up and give it a run, which would be handy. It's looking very forlorn under its cover in the yard.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 16/12/2022 13:43

Temp when I was having breakfast this morning was -7, with a feel of -10. So I decided it was a good day for a long walk.

SinnerBoy · 16/12/2022 13:43

It's 3° here, with a slight thaw, water dripping off the roof, path getting slushy, but it's supposed to be cold tonight. Yesterday, they were predicting heavy rain and 14° on Sunday, but today, they said it'll be heavy snow.

I'll wait and see.

duc748 · 16/12/2022 13:56

I just had occasion to log into my BBC account, and with postcode, DOB, and password, I see a Gender field is added. I suppose that's commonplace these days? I set it to Prefer Not To Say, which I suppose is the least bad. Sex not asked for.

Please don't stone me! I promise I didn't say Jehovah! Oh shit, I said it.

Yes, I know. I'm taking a quick break because the living room is almost done and my lovely neighbour is going to help me tackle the kitchen later. I just have to finish the bedroom, nearly done, do the bathroom, walk in the park and start the question before she gets here. There's a slim possibility that it might all be done by the time we pick up the van tomorrow but at the very least I won't be doing as much tomorrow as I feared. Still stressed but at bearable levels. A friend came around and helped a little for a couple of hours. I realised that what I want is for people to be here. They don't have to do much, just having someone here makes me able to achieve more.

Someone tried to scam me on Facebook Marketplace last night. Said he'd take the washing machine and pay me before he picked it up via bank transfer. I thought I'd heard of this as a scam but wasn't entirely sure. Came to our trusty Mumsnet, started my first ever thread and within minutes got the "Yes, it's a scam" replies and turned him down. A woman turned up today to have a look and she's getting someone to pick it up tomorrow, so it's sold!

@Dotellhimpike I watched my first episode of Traitor last week and now I am hooked. The Welsh traitor is a piece of work and Will isn't much better. Amos is my favourite but he's too clever and I think they'll get him out or murder him if they're not binned first.
