A Greek Yogurt Appreciation Thread

Just finished an indulgent bowl tonight with choc chips, sweetened dried cranberries, almond butter, cinnamon and clementine segments and was thinking what an amazing food it is.

Lunchtime sometime this week, I will likely have garlic and herb Lubneh with crackers/pitta breads/ bagels.

I add it to homemade guacamole for protein (we are veggie household)

Makes lovely pasta salad dressing when mixed with mayo or hot when mixed with Marmite, mushrooms and onions and herbs.

Plain with a sprinkle of oats and hot stewed apples and honey in winter.

Berries in summer.

Great budget versions.

How does everyone else eat theirs?

With dark, toffee-ish honey drizzled over
With a spoonful of really good quality lemon curd roughly swirled through (and maybe some raspberries or blueberries on the top?)

paintitallover · 06/12/2022 21:25

I often make porridge, add any fruit or a few nuts, then a couple of large tablespoons of greek yogurt. Stir.

Bluepanda86 · 06/12/2022 21:41

On the top/ next to a berry fruit salad in summer for me and DD1. I first introduced DD1 to it as part of her weaning after she had fruit and vegetable purees. She used to have it with fresh mango or strawberry puree together. Even my MIL tried it and now loves Greek yoghurt!

Recently I've been having Greek yoghurt with dark choc granola/museli from Pret. Probably not healthy but delicious. But my usual Pret has stopped selling the museli (you could buy it in bags) so now I am reduced to Crunchy Nut clusters. Must try and go back to yog and fruit.

teachermummyme · 06/12/2022 22:05

I love it with cubed mango, flaked almonds, thinly sliced stem ginger and then drizzled with the syrup from the stem ginger jar. Yum!

Great suggestions, all!

AriettyHomily · 06/12/2022 22:08

Plain but it has to be Waitrose no1 or fage 5%, no 0 fat or Greek style.

ThePoshUns · 06/12/2022 22:08

I love it, but has to be the full fat one.
I like it dolloped on meringue nests topped with raspberries.

VickerishAllsort · 06/12/2022 22:11

I have the 0% for breakfast every day with frozen (defrosted) cherries, almonds, cashews, walnuts and various seeds. Keeps me satisfied for ages and is my favourite meal of the day. I'd have it for dinner too if I didn't have to feed the rest of the family.

VickerishAllsort · 06/12/2022 22:13

That should be full-fat. Tried the 0% but not a patch on the real good stuff.

Have you tried the Tesco granola with dark chocolate in? I've been sprinking that on yoghurt and fruit.

queenofarles · 06/12/2022 22:16

With chopped almonds and berries .

NerdyBird · 06/12/2022 22:19

@saraclara I didn't know about that! We shop at Tesco so will add it to the order. Thanks!

minticecreamisjustok · 06/12/2022 22:22

I made tzatzik which was really delicious as a savoury dip or in a chicken wrap.

Otherwise I like it with honey and nuts

TheMatriarchy · 06/12/2022 22:24

Mixed with tandoori spices for a delicious marinade on chicken, lamb, paneer etc

Wherediditallgo · 06/12/2022 22:26

I made ice cream with Greek yoghurt, banana and peanut powder.

love yoghurt layered with granola blueberries and raspberries

my instant pot has a yoghurt setting so you can keep the culture going without having to buy more.

dickdarstardlymuttley · 06/12/2022 22:27

Yum thread

user1494050295 · 06/12/2022 22:28

Love the m and s Greek full fat and the Waitrose luxury full fat. With honey, chopped dates and granola

SuperCamp · 06/12/2022 22:30

Oh yes! Good thick Greek Yogurt, the real thing, not low fat and other fakery fuckery!

On granola and frozen blueberries

A dollop in spicy soup, e.g spicy lentil and carrot, morrocan spiced lentil.

Some lemon zest grated into it and leave it for a while, gorgeous on everything, especially slow cooked lamb.

Stirred into spinach, a poached egg on top

But I eat quite a lot with a spoonful of lemon curd swirled through.

PrincessMyshkin · 06/12/2022 22:30

Breakfast ice cream- yogurt, cacao, chia seeds, frozen cherries, sliced banana, few blueberries, mandarin segments... for a real treat some dark chocolate buttons. Have you had the type of yogurt that has a layer of cream? Like top of the milk. It's amazing! Not Greek but worthy of appreciation! I like all the above with a bit of the cream on top.

GatesToTown · 06/12/2022 22:31

Like @Wherediditallgo I used to make it in an Instant Pot, Dh likes it so thick you could plaster a wall with it so I perfected making it. Just the right amount of tang and the right amount of whey drained off.

Dh likes frozen berries that he defrosts in a pot overnight, then he adds either granola or weetabix for breakfast.

PrincessMyshkin · 06/12/2022 22:32

Oh, and mixed with garlic and dried mint on top of a delicious Afghan kadoo (pumpkin) or banjan (aubergine) borani

SuperCamp · 06/12/2022 22:32

Stir in a teaspoon of harissa paste, and dollop a spoonful on tagine

User129867588 · 06/12/2022 22:33

I like mine mixed with a scoop of vanilla protein powder, a tablespoon of natural peanut butter and some dark chocolate chips/ it’s a very filling dessert as lots of protein and tastes delicious!!

but I also like it with granola or partly defrosted raspberries topped with roasted bit and seeds.

in dips with garlic it cucumber and dill/mint

I can eat it plain too and now I’m hungry for Greek yoghurt!!
