There's a statement on her official Twitter page:

Twitter

If this is true - and I can only assume it is - I am truly truly saddened. Fleetwood Mac are my favourite band, and Christine is my favourite member.

Just listened to Songbird which normally brings a tear to my eye. Proper choked up.
RIP Christine.

MoonriseKingdom · 30/11/2022 21:30

How sad. Such a talented songwriter and performer.

CampfireZen · 30/11/2022 21:34

“We all drank a lot and did a lot of cocaine, we partied a lot, I don’t think I did anything terribly outrageous,” she says. “Except I once threw a cake out the window which landed on top of taxi. I was kind of the good girl in the group. That’s who I was. Stevie used to call me Mother Earth because I was always pretty grounded.”

"I’m not one of these people that’s an extrovert. That said, I try to really be kind to people when they talk to me, if they ask for autographs. One shouldn’t mind, because after all, they’re paying you a terrific compliment."

Lovely woman. Humour and kindness and outstanding talent. RIP.

Christine had more talent in her little fingernail than in the whole of the other ones arse

What a shame you chose to denigrate another woman (Christine's bandmate) on a thread paying tribute to an amazingly talented woman.

Christine and Stevie Nicks were fabulous songwriters and singers - their harmonies enhanced each other's songs beautifully.

What a life lived though! That documentary is fantastic. I always hoped they would turn up at Glastonbury one year but sadly it never happened as they were far too expensive 🙂 worth every penny In my opinion.

Jellykat · 30/11/2022 22:40

Very sad news indeed.. out of all of them i thought she'd be the last one standing.
Such a talented lady!

BuryingAcorns · 30/11/2022 22:45

How sad. She was a formidably talented woman.

AllOfThemWitches · 30/11/2022 22:47

I actually feel sad about this, I love Fleetwood Mac. ❤️

CowPie · 30/11/2022 22:48

That’s outrageously sad. She was brilliant.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 30/11/2022 22:51

One of the last great West Coast bands that until this news broke was still standing (notwithstanding Lindsey's departure). Very, very Christine McVie has died and with this news it really does feel as though an era has ended - from my personal perspective more so than any other news event this year.

The members of the band are all so different, each with their own unique contribution to make and each of these was dependent on the others. It was never the same when one member left for any duration. They needed each other for it to work (albeit I also loved early, blues Mac).

Christine's songwriting and Stevie's was completely different, as was their delivery, but somehow unmistakably the 'Mac' sound. And when they sang together, they were simply magical.

This is truly rubbish news. It's hardly rational being affected by the death of a famous stranger you didn't know, but this is certainly one to bring down my mood. Sad, sad shame.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 30/11/2022 22:52

Very, very sad, the above was meant to say!

RosettaStormer · 30/11/2022 23:26

I feel really quite upset about this. Another great talent gone…

daisydalrymple · 30/11/2022 23:59

Yes marie, that’s it totally. All the band members are / were unique and have brought their own personal touch to the band over the decades. Their songs all blended to create that unique FM album, but my goodness, you could tell a CM song vs SN vs LM song, but they just worked together to give it that amazing sound and balance and harmony.

Hit the nail on the head @MarieIVanArkleStinks

I was sad when I heard. I didn't realise she was that age.

middleager · 01/12/2022 00:11

Sad news indeed. I love Fleetwood Mac and the fact two amazingly talented, kick-ass women were at the heart of it, with incredible writing and musicality.
Christine's legacy to the world of music is monumental.

So sad to hear this. Christine was immensely talented as as a musician, singer and songwriter. she never hogged the limelight......unlike the othe female member of the band.

Christine had more talent in her little fingernail than in the whole of the other ones arse.

Class act. RIP Songbird.

That is a really nasty thing to say @WhatarethePolicedoingaboutApricotCity . Shame on you for saying it on a lovely tribute thread like this. Hmm Why so much spite and venom towards Stevie Nicks? Has she hurt you or upset you in some way? Did your husband fancy her or something? Confused

mamabear715 · 01/12/2022 02:25

Seems like we all thought she was younger than she was.. it only feels like a few years ago when I was listening to Christine Perfect & Chicken Shack.. :-(

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 01/12/2022 04:03

I was lucky enough to see them in Calgary in 2014. I was flying in from the north for a Christmas shopping weekend with some friends. We bought the tickets on Stubhub as we were sitting in departures. We were a little late arriving but they were playing The Chain as we arrived. It was epic.

BelgiumArse · 01/12/2022 04:38

Christine you always were an inspiration to females across the globe.

You will be sadly missed, our own English songbird, you are a legend.

RIP

NeedWineNow · 01/12/2022 16:20

DH and I were really saddened when we heard this news last night. We were lucky enough to see Fleetwood Mac when she rejoined some years ago and they were absolutely wonderful. We'll both always be glad that we got that chance. Christine did Songbird with Lindsay Buckingham as the encore and it was spellbinding.

Re listened today. Love she admitted that Songbird wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for two lines of cocaine and half a bottle of champagne.

Inkanta · 02/12/2022 00:09

Very sad - and yes I thought she was younger. She looked good on that last tour.. Stevie Nicks must be ten years younger or so.

Inkanta · 02/12/2022 00:12

Just looked it up - Stevie Nicks is five years younger.
