There's a statement on her official Twitter page:

Twitter

If this is true - and I can only assume it is - I am truly truly saddened. Fleetwood Mac are my favourite band, and Christine is my favourite member.

Really saddened by this news tonight, she was an amazing lady 😞

Willmafrockfit · 30/11/2022 20:32

oh dear, a sad loss
RIP

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 30/11/2022 20:33

Yes it's sad indeed. Sad @inigomontoyahwillcox She was originally from Lancashire, not far from me! 79 is quite a good age to make it to, so she had a good fulfilling long life, but like a few others here I thought she was younger. Like early to mid 60s! R.I.P. xxx

JulesJules · 30/11/2022 20:33

Very sad to see this news.

ImOutOfTouch · 30/11/2022 20:34

I'm so saddened by the news.

I eventually bought tickets to see FM and it got cancelled (about 7/8 years ago?)

Gutted.

CaveMum · 30/11/2022 20:35

Such sad news 😢

I also recommend the BBC documentary about her, it’s a fascinating watch.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/11/2022 20:35

Aw no, how sad. Was lucky enough to see her just after she re-joined FM.

I'll be listening to Songbird and having a bit of a weep later this evening I think.

Same OP. Fleetwood Mac was the soundtrack to my childhood and is now firmly one of my favourite bands. I do feel very emotional, which is so odd for someone I've never met. Going to listen to Songbird and have a little cry later.

Canthave2manycats · 30/11/2022 20:39

Such sad news. All the members of the band were extremely talented, such beautiful, melodic songs.

So sorry I never got to see them live. I did see Stevie once.

comfortablyfrumpy · 30/11/2022 20:40

Oh no 😞

Daisy38 · 30/11/2022 20:44

Such sad news. She was an amazingly talented musician and my favourite member of Fleetwood Mac 💔

WhatarethePolicedoingaboutApricotCity · 30/11/2022 20:46

So sad to hear this. Christine was immensely talented as as a musician, singer and songwriter. she never hogged the limelight......unlike the othe female member of the band.

Christine had more talent in her little fingernail than in the whole of the other ones arse.

Class act. RIP Songbird.

Starchipenterprise · 30/11/2022 20:47

I know, so sad. Partly because for very personal reasons songbird is one of my longtime favourites and carries so much meaning. I just read elsewhere that having rejoined Fleetwood Mac, Christine ‘redefined ageing for women’. For that reason and many others she is my hero!

longtompot · 30/11/2022 20:47

Such sad news. Love her voice on so many Fleetwood Mac tracks, especially Songbird RIP

Willmafrockfit · 30/11/2022 20:48

oh thank you for linking songbird
love that

balalake · 30/11/2022 20:48

May she rest in peace. Thoughts for her family and all who mourn.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/11/2022 20:48

Lindsey has cancelled a lot of concerts lately due to health issues - it's horrible watching your favourites get older

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 30/11/2022 20:50

The world has lost a shining light 😪RIP Christine

AuntieMarys · 30/11/2022 20:54

What a woman.
There was a fantastic documentary about her fairly recently

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 30/11/2022 20:58

Argh. In tears now. What a voice 😥

NannyGythaOgg · 30/11/2022 20:59

She's fabulous - it's sad for those left behind
I've loved her for years.
BUT
I'm 67, I hope I'm gone by 79 or thereabouts - and I'm healthy now.

No one lives forever and with a rock lifestyle 79 is fucking brilliant

MatildaJayne · 30/11/2022 21:03

Virtually every track on Rumours was perfect. Will have a listen tonight.

IntentionalError · 30/11/2022 21:09

What dreadfully sad news. Christine was an incredibly talented artist, and by all accounts a lovely person. Songbird will be played & loved forever.

Her age surprised me, too, although on reflection Fleetwood Mac were neither kids nor amateurs when they became superstars with Rumours in 1977. Like ABBA, they were experienced professionals who came together & knew exactly what they were trying to achieve. Mick & John had been successful with previous iterations of the band in the 60s, Christine had been in well regarded blues bands and Lindsay & Stevie had been successful as a duo in California.

Thanks for this link - listening now ☺️

sad to have lost her.

napody · 30/11/2022 21:17

So sad. Such a talent, I'm addicted to her voice. Watch 'Fleetwood Mac: The Dance' on iplayer... reunited for an incredible gig in 1998. She was absolutely amazing and like pps have said, so unassuming with it.
