There's a statement on her official Twitter page:

Twitter

If this is true - and I can only assume it is - I am truly truly saddened. Fleetwood Mac are my favourite band, and Christine is my favourite member.

I've just seen this. So very sad. At least we saw her with Fleetwood Mac a few years ago. She sang Songbird with Lindsay Buckingham as the encore. So beautiful and wouldn't have missed it for the world.

jamoncrumpets · 30/11/2022 19:58

Devastated. I loved her. Saw her with Fleetwood Mac live a few times and they were always better when she was there. Preferred her voice to Stevie's too.

happystory · 30/11/2022 19:58

Oh gosh. Such a talent and the backbone of Fleetwood Mac. According to the doc previously mentioned, she wrote Songbird in one sitting. A true legend and a big part of my life 😞

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/11/2022 19:58

Fly high, songbird

How sad.

BedTaker · 30/11/2022 20:00

Oh my god, this is really sad and actually quite shocking news. I had no idea she was 79 either, in my head she was like early sixties.

NeedWineNow · 30/11/2022 20:02

I've just told DH and we are both filling up. DH asking Alexa for Rumours as we speak.

corlan · 30/11/2022 20:08

She was such a great talent.

Surprised at how sad I was to see this.

Yes Steve's is gurgley

Christine was so talented

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 30/11/2022 20:14

Such sad news. Her voice was perfect and had a wonderful pitch.
A sad day.

myfatisgettingfatter · 30/11/2022 20:14

RIP .. a true talent lost

I hope she has been happy and comfortable in her retirement

daisydalrymple · 30/11/2022 20:15

Devastated op, she too was my favourite. As others have said, saw them again on the last tour at Wembley 2019 (thankfully pre covid). I just thought there would be one last last final tour, one more chance to see them.
RIP Christine, thank you for the music.
what a legacy.

DillDanding · 30/11/2022 20:16

Had to google her as I don't know much about Fleetwood Mac, but that is sad. Also surprised she was that old. I think of that group as being about 60-65.

feellikeanalien · 30/11/2022 20:17

Really sad. Loved her voice. Fleetwood Mac has always been one of my favourite bands. Can't believe she was 79.

JustCheckingItsMine · 30/11/2022 20:18

This has really upset me. Lovely woman and incredible musical legacy

SilverPeacock · 30/11/2022 20:18

Such a talented and interesting woman.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 30/11/2022 20:23

I never saw them - missed out the last time they toured (when Christine rejoined them), gutted.

She wasn't retired. She rejoiced the band some years back after she retired. Got bored sitting around the big house so went back out there.

JolllyBee · 30/11/2022 20:28

So sad

Dunnoburt · 30/11/2022 20:28

This truly makes me sad.....RIP

Twatling · 30/11/2022 20:29

Beyond upset at this news. After an indescribably shitty year, this has somehow just put the butter on the shit sandwich :(

Newuser82 · 30/11/2022 20:30

So sad! She was a great talent. I was lucky enough to see her play with fleetwood Mac and I'm great full for that.
