Is Mumsnet Premium worth it?

So it's been around for a while now.

Is it worth the money?

Presumably you don't have the promised edit/sorting features?

Are the discounts etc worth it?

Probably the same amount of time though I did de register for a while due to all the security issues. I’ve had a lot from here and given a lot. But that’s the posters, Mumsnet is just the host, and really, they do far better out of us than they would have you think. Someone posted about that (the financial details) when they started on about subscriptions.

How would you 'meet' the other posters without the host though? That's like saying a gym or pub etc is only as good as its customers , you wouldn't meet them without that communal meeting point would you .

TicketToRideFan · 03/12/2022 14:47

I had it for a month; I had serious security concerns and cancelled within the month.

The point being made is that MN is not unique in its position as a communal meeting point. There were sites before MN and there will be sites long after.

Realistically if MN closed down operating tomorrow people would find somewhere else to go and the advice would probably be just as good and the people just as helpful and sympathetic. For all you know there's a forum online right now that would give you better support and advice but you've not come across it yet because your on MN.

I get no adverts whatsoever

Why are they advertising it as fewer ads do we think?

No idea 🤷 promise I don't get a single one though and it's lovely. That's on a laptop, can't answer for the app.

Anyone can edit their own posts on Tattle. I've never seen anyone abuse it though I assume that must happen from time to time. People on there are less pendantic as well so you don't get jumped on for a typo.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2022 15:34

Not sure Tattle is a good comparison, and they demand you disable your adblocker.

00100001 · 03/12/2022 15:43

Mumsnet could do that too...

Yep.

Don't know how many members they would lose, they must have thought about it surely.

@TicketToRideFan What sort of security concerns?

I remember being very very surprised at the monthly wage bill when they started asking for people to subscribe.

I don't think you were alone, a lot of posters were shocked by the huge wage bill, especially for a site that doesn't pay the night watch.

TicketToRideFan · 03/12/2022 16:57

My bank account was compromised - the only fresh place I had shared my details with in months was signing up to premium.

I know, of course, that they probably have proper secure encryption in place. I also know scammers can wait months if not years before taking advantage of security breaches. But it was enough to concern me; I cancelled and insisted they had deleted all my details.

CourtneeLuv · 03/12/2022 18:54

Didn't they have a proper breach of details, I seem to remember that not long after people signed up.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2022 19:08

I only remember the hacking in 2015. MN went offline for a few days, lots of deregging then registering back, changes of passwords, usernames etc.Nothing to do with bank details though.

I use Tattle and have an ad blocker. Tattle has never demanded that I disable it.

On my laptop I get a big red square demanding it.

I've only ever wanted to see something people have mentioned on here, I don't think that site is for me TBH.
