What was your local, shit club that you frequented in your youth?

Nc for this one 😁

Mine was Langtrys in Beckenham. Absolute shit hole. We used to get in from 15 years old as the bouncers just asked for our date of birth and star sign! Would sneak bottles of wine in hidden in the lining of coats. Loads of weird, pervy men. Constant fights. I shudder to think of dd in that environment but 13yo me thought it was amazing.

I did all my ‘clubbing’ in fields, barns, warehouses and under motorway bridges 😁

onmywayamarillo · 28/11/2022 12:34

@torquewench was that on the kings road?

Peppermint Park, Ritzy's, Hi's and Rick's Place - they were all different levels of awful.

We had our sixth form Christmas party at Rick's Place, one of the boys was so pissed he fell down the stairs at the entrance!

I spent every Friday night at Fat Pauly's, £1.50 for a double vodka and mixer and the massive back room full of sofas that needed fumigating. I also drank so much in there I discovered "blind drunk" isn't just a saying! Confused

@Lakeyloo i went to Sterns so many times, although it was Mansion House by the time I went. Funnily enough I went there as a child when it was a garden and tea room!
I had my 18th birthday at Rutherfords! They used to send massive books of tickets that we would hand out at college.
What was that place in Worthing that was an old church? Something ecclesiastical I seem to remember.

DialSquare · 28/11/2022 12:37

onmywayamarillo · 28/11/2022 12:34

I'll try to remember 🤣

Enter the dragon ken high st
Mud club Charing Cross Rd
Turnmills north London somewhere
Bagleys King's Cross
Hippodrome Charing Cross Rd
Limelight
Heaven
Cafe de Paris
Legends
Sw1 club in Victoria

awful place in Vauxhall called under the arches?

I went to many of these too but I wouldn't class these ones as shit clubs.

NoCoatAndFurKnickers · 28/11/2022 12:37

These sound like every club I frequented in my youth!

Used to go to one called The Garage. It was so gross, but I felt like the bee's knees going there. So sophisticated with my bottle of watermelon Hooch

Sportycustard · 28/11/2022 12:39

Belair at the Belfrey. Bizarre mix of sleazy older rich blokes and underage teens

Bella Pais, a ropey club at the foot of Barr Beacon. I was somewhat amused a few years ago when I realised they'd knocked it down to build some rather large "executive homes" but called the close they're on after the club. The new residents surely can't know what a dive it was.

Also The Dilke in Aldridge. Remember wearing shoes with beer tops on the laces and going there (might have been a Bros thing?).

Oh and Snobs in Brum. Still going strong!

Ozgirl75 · 28/11/2022 12:40

@Lakeyloo Cloisters - it just came to me!

theydontspeakforus · 28/11/2022 12:40

Also - Palais in Hammersmith. School Disco nights were the best!!

CatWorm · 28/11/2022 12:41

The Dome in Tufnell Park. Lot’s of underage shenanigans and pervy older men. Tbf, you’d have no trouble getting into any club in North London underage in the early noughties. Some really fun times and some really really dodgy ones as well.

lugeforlife · 28/11/2022 12:45

@Pinkywoo

I never went to Ricks place but spent 3 years getting totally twatted in ritzy/peppermint park. Monday night was student night iirc and there was great debate regarding which one we hit. HIs was a bit townie for us.

TheOnlyMrsW · 28/11/2022 12:45

@spotsmix I love the Tiv, we go to see loads of bands there and it's always freezing even when it's 30 degrees outside 😂. Heading back there in April next year 🤘

CatWorm · 28/11/2022 12:47

@theydontspeakforus I forgot about Hammersmith Palais! Gutted when it got closed. What a venue.

lugeforlife · 28/11/2022 12:49

Oh god and Snobs In Birmingham. What was the other mid 90s cheese fest in Brum, just by the Bullring I think. I snogged some right wrong uns in there.

In my 6th form years we liked the bierkeller in Bristol but not the Thelka but I don't know why. There was the big club at the top of Broadmead above the cinema too - Oceanus??

My husband did all the Essex/north London ones. And Eros.

I am very happy remembering these

Pinkywoo · 28/11/2022 12:49

@lugeforlife yes we only went to Hy's on a Thursday for 70's night (with the light up dance floor!) and then stayed at friends houses before getting up for school Grin

@Ozgirl75 I was mid 80's through to Mansion House at Sterns. Such a great place but a bugger to get home from ! It's lovely up there now, back to being a hotel/restaurant and gardens. YES ! Birthday tickets from Rutherfords. Had forgotten those. Wasn't it called The Church ? (it was at some point but can't remember if that was 80's/90s) They had a minibus to take you to illusions round by the station. Worthing was a good night out back in the day !

UrsulaPandress · 28/11/2022 12:51

Cats Whiskers in Oldham from 14
Then Baileys from 16.

And Pips in Manchester which was the epitome of cool.

Lakeyloo · 28/11/2022 12:51

Ozgirl75 · 28/11/2022 12:40

@Lakeyloo Cloisters - it just came to me!

YES ! Well done

Pinkywoo · 28/11/2022 12:51

@theydontspeakforus we used to go to the school disco nights when I was at Roehampton, probably 2001/2? And if we were really desperate for a night out Fez in Putney!

tigerbear · 28/11/2022 12:52

@RedAppleTree Legends was Newcastle.

Also, The Ritzy (highlight of a night there was getting a carton of chips from the takeaway hatch), but once got my bag stolen, including my passport 😬

Tuxedo Royale/Princess - a ship with a revolving dance floor (which was actually tiny), and a ‘Captain’ who went around with a camera, taking snaps of all the young girls, then selling them to you for about £15 a go at the end of the night. Lads had to wear ‘dress shoes’ 😄

mummydoris2006 · 28/11/2022 12:53

Fat Louis
The Beach Bar
Strikes
Rhinos
The Street
The Mardi Gras

Absolutely loved my clubbing days but put myself in so many dangerous situations I'm not sure how I've made it to 41 😮. Looking back now at going on 'sleepovers' at age 13 but actually going clubbing!

PatChauncey · 28/11/2022 12:54

If you're from NI it was always the Coach in Banbridge. In the mid eighties we weren't allowed into Belfast at night, but the Coach was fine.

It was a total dump but I have so many (hazy) happy memories!
They never IDed girls so everyone went from age 14.

It closed over Covid and hasn't reopened 😢

torquewench · 28/11/2022 12:54

onmywayamarillo · 28/11/2022 12:34

Nope, Standish. Just off M6 J27.

Yeah I was going with the shit local clubs, not banging clubs in the Hey Days.

AriettyHomily · 28/11/2022 13:00

Another Langtrys one here and the orchid and the coliseum in Croydon, if you left let the bouncers touch your legs you could get in 🤦🏻‍♀️

I went to bridge bar which has replaced langtrys a few years ago, it was still just as shit!
