What was your local, shit club that you frequented in your youth?

Nc for this one 😁

Mine was Langtrys in Beckenham. Absolute shit hole. We used to get in from 15 years old as the bouncers just asked for our date of birth and star sign! Would sneak bottles of wine in hidden in the lining of coats. Loads of weird, pervy men. Constant fights. I shudder to think of dd in that environment but 13yo me thought it was amazing.

The Savoy for me as well , but when we were under 16 if you defo wanted guaranteed entrance we also went to the Sun Club, we were also a fan of Clattie Pats.

I don't think I remember the Sun Club, where was that?
And God yes, Clatty Pats, how could I forget!!

Do you remember Rooftops on Argyle St? Had to wipe your feet on the way out.

Mistymountain · 28/11/2022 18:51

Monty's in Cardiff - Thursday night was girls' night out!

DialSquare · 28/11/2022 18:53

Ahh that would make sense BloodAndFire. Yes I started going to those types of clubs in the late 80s to about 94

Did anyone else survive a night in fabric near Smithfields meat market? The amount of drugs consumed in that place was truly heroic. I remember one man licking all the mirrors while his mate stood beside him watching.

Oh yes - I think I was about 16 the first time I went 😂

Lots of names on the lists I frequented in my youth - also used to spend time at cheapskates on Greek St and the Venue in New Cross (with the conveniently placed cab company opposite which also sold weed under the counter). Happy days.

Disappointed to see no representation for Bradford's classiest places so guess that will have to be me!
Many a night spent in Maestroes - age 13 at the under 18s night before rapidly progressing to the over 18s night at around 14! Then when we couldn't get in there anymore we moved on to Lingards which has to be the lowest of the low! This was mid to late 90s. Good times!

Yaaas! Bloody loved Maestro's! Fishponds in the toilets and everything 🤣

Used to do pre-drinks at a dodgy little place called Kiss as well.

This was all underage - once I turned legal, Queen's Hall and Wyndsor Baths were the places to be!

Fabric is up there with one of the most terrifying places I've ever been in my life. I still went most weekends though. One time a scary woman in the toilets literally took the shirt off my back because hers was too wet with sweat. So she just took mine off me, pulled it over my head and put it on. I just stood there in my bra as she walked out....wearing my top.

Locally we went to the Juicy Duck in Bishops Stortford - later renamed as H20. Absolute shithole with sticky floors and minging loos

A big night out was Dukes in Chelmsford or Eros in Enfield

There was another club in Chelmsford we went to but I cannot for the life of me remember it’s name

Chicago's?

Wormwoodgal · 28/11/2022 19:56

The Dugout in Park Row, and Tiffany's on the Downs in Bristol, plus the place next to Reading station which was underground and was entered via a spiral staircase. I was not a frequent frequenter! The last place I went to was near the Victoria Centre in Nottingham. Can't remember the name...

Fentylipgloss · 28/11/2022 19:57

@BordoisAgain

Dukes on a Thursday night, or the Hippodrome!!!!!!

Unicorn2022 · 28/11/2022 19:59

Thought of a few more. Stringfellows in Leicester Square, the shittest of them all. Fridge in Brixton - some great nights there but always an element of danger. Tots 2000 in Southend, Madame JoJos Soho.

Fentylipgloss · 28/11/2022 20:01

@alloalloallo

Zeus or reds?

Fentylipgloss · 28/11/2022 20:04

@alloalloallo

Kings was Copford near Colchester :-)
Had several NYE there.

Oncemoreforluck · 28/11/2022 20:11

I remember regularly going to a wine bar straight after work on a Thursday night then onto Jilly’s in Manchester until 2 am, then onto the Casino in Salford, then straight from there into work. Not much work got done on a Friday🤣🤭

Tallulasdancingshoes · 28/11/2022 20:49

Harley’s in Walsall. It was a proper sticky floor club. It was £5 to get in and free drinks for girls before 11. We used to drink Taboo and lemonade out of neon, glow in the dark, plastic glasses. It was totally crap, but we loved it. Had loads of great nights there in 6th form.

Pericombobulations · 28/11/2022 21:30

As we are talking dodgy nightclubs in Bradford, we enjoyed The Underworld aka Pants. It later was renamed the Nexus.

Many happy nights there including meeting my husband at the bar! Tiny dancefloor, sticky carpets and loos that didnt lock. Even tried DJ'ing there.

One of the regulars there, after two years of going, invited us all to help celebrate his birthday. His 18th birthday!

There was also Rio's round the corner. Good friday goth night.

Yes Lautrecs! I remember now and the sticky carpet in Cinatras!

Do you remember when you could pay a certain amount to get in to Cinatras and have 8 free drinks? There was sometimes a free buffet too, upstairs but I don’t think we bothered.

I’m also a south London girl and grew up in Penge. So I know the area well!

If you told the bouncers it was your 18th birthday, you got in for free (and most of them provided a free bottle of fizz).

Man, I had so many 18th birthdays. And even one actual one.

I wish I’d known back then!

Not if you were then faced with getting at least one absolutely trashed mate home (there was always one), the cab firm wouldn't take you and the only way was to either wait an indefinite number of hours for a bus to come down London Road - having already picked up more than its fair share of plastered clubbers from the Ritzy in Streatham - or wobbling back through Broad Green towards West Croydon (and the 24 hour off licence) in the blistering cold, you don't!

Most of these plus The Epping Forest country club also previously mentioned. But before all of these in my actual youth it was Lipsticks in Limehouse, Guccis in Hackney and one in Stepney that I just can't remember the name of. It's driving me mad!

I grew up in Stepney and am trying to think of any clubs there. It wasn’t in the White Swan by the Rotherhithe Tunnel approach was it?

The Acapulco Club in Halifax - known as "The Acca". Slogan - "It's 10 to 2 and anyone will do"

I think the cut the carpet up into bits and auctioned it off not so long ago.

Was just going to post about the Accas legendary carpet sell off. I know a proud owner of a framed A4 sample. It even made the national papers!

bathshebaeverbusy · 28/11/2022 23:23

The Queensgate in Alderley Edge used to have a ‘Miss wet T-shirt night’ on a Wednesday night. Usually packed with schoolgirls from the convent school over the road. And a smattering of well known middle aged male tv presenters/ soap actors/ footballersd this was mid 1980s. The other ropey local one was The Valley Lodge. Vv dubious.

Siameasy · 29/11/2022 00:02

The Venue New Cross. I remember being 16 or 17 and snogging a 28 year old bloke. Imagine that now! I was well chuffed with my conquest.

Unicorn2022 · 29/11/2022 00:06

The only club I remember in Stepney was Stepney's nightclub in Commercial Road. They were always trying to close it down.

Cantthinkofabettername · 29/11/2022 00:16

Krystals or Zoots? in Leicester - taking the NUS cards you wrote your own DOB on for ID 😂

Echos in Loughborough
