How long do you kept birthday cards on display?

Totally trivial I know! Not sure how it cropped up in conversation last night with a group of friends, but somehow we ended up talking about how long we keep birthday cards on display.
One person said they look at them and put them straight in recycling; one puts them up but takes them down the day after their birthday. The rest between 'a few days' and a week.
As said, appreciate it's really not important but am weirdly intrigued!

Until I feel like dusting the mantelpiece.....

Mine are a week old, so still up!

kitcat15 · 26/11/2022 11:02

1 we maximum

Oldraver · 26/11/2022 11:15

I usually keep cards until the next occasion. Fathers Day get taken down eventually as there is a long gap till someone's birthday

A month, someone’s taken time to send them to me so I leave them up for what feels like ages.

Athenen0ctua · 26/11/2022 11:23

A week for most. Weeks to months if I love the picture.

Climbie · 26/11/2022 11:23

gosh, I thought DH was being brutal clearing his strictly after a week. I'd say about 2 weeks. DS's birthday is just before Christmas so his stay up until 12th night.

Kabalagala · 26/11/2022 11:35

They don't really go on display. We don't appreciate or send cards so don't get many. DC might put their favourites on the bookshelf for a few days.

LindaEllen · 26/11/2022 11:52

I have them for at least a week, and then clear them away whenever I get round to it after that.

seaweedhead · 26/11/2022 12:04

Around a week. That allows time for any late ones to be displayed as well. Cards can be expensive and some people put a lot of thought into choosing the right one so it seems only right to keep them out for a while.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 26/11/2022 12:05

I look at them, then straight into the recycling

Xanadu58 · 26/11/2022 12:11

1 week

zighead · 26/11/2022 12:11

I keep them up for one calendar month. No idea why but it feels such a waste to put them in the recycling any earlier.

SunflowerSmith · 26/11/2022 12:15

A week, although dh's don't get put up, his birthday is the week before Christmas and there's no room

MorningMeditation · 26/11/2022 12:22

For my kids, a few days.

For us, we don’t even put them up. Most people we know don’t send cards, only older relatives do. We do gifts, like to have a meal, night out, holiday etc but not cards. They seem a bit pointless.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 26/11/2022 12:32

1 week

automne · 26/11/2022 12:34

The children (teenagers) one day, the day itself. I don't put my own cards up at all.

waltty · 26/11/2022 12:39

Pre covid a week, when covid started a month and I have continued to keep them up for a month, drives husband mad, they make me happy 😆

Nottodaty · 26/11/2022 12:44

Around a week - we have 3 birthdays within a 6 week window so if we kept them any longer it would be nearly two months with cards all the time up.

BeanieTeen · 26/11/2022 12:45

A week. The person you know who said they just look and chuck them away should just tell people that’s what they do and not to buy them, what a waste of card and money. Same if they only keep them up for a day actually.

Baconand · 26/11/2022 12:46

3-4 weeks. I use it as an excuse not to dust. See also Xmas decorations. Not that I’m lazy….

NeedAChangeAsIAmSoooOuting · 26/11/2022 12:52

About a week here

Whatevernext1 · 26/11/2022 13:05

My birthday is just before Christmas so I only get to keep mine up for a couple of days. I would like to keep them up for a week like the rest of my family. I love a birthday card! Quite often I receive a Christmas card that people write inside for me to also have a nice birthday,I hate this!

Until the next birthday/card occasion.
Even if that's months away.
There are always cards on the card string.
The current ones are DH's from October but mine will replace them and stay until Easter.

I like the sounds of your card string

Aw that’s sad. My stepson’s is right before Xmas, but I always make one windowsill in the kitchen, or sideboard in the living room just for his birthday cards so he doesn’t think it’s being wiped out by Xmas.

20viona · 26/11/2022 13:12

A week I bloody hate seeing them
