2 profiteroles for pudding. Is this OK?

I'm.having some friends round this evening- newish friends.

We are having blinis with smoked salmon then slow roast pork, dauphinois potatoes and savoy cabbage.

I made and froze profiteroles last week to have for pudding and there are only two each! I think this will look a bit stupid but I can't really be arsed to make any more.

Is it not really worth serving them? They will look a bit lonely in the bowl. We clearly ate too many of the little buggers when I made them. Obviously they had to be tested...

I know this is a first world problem and I count myself lucky to even have profiteroles.

Tasting menus do this. But it takes an enormous amount of work to create enough small plates. You were suggesting three courses to replace just one dessert for example,le.

OP has an immediate problem. I suggested a possible solution. That's all.

I have an immediate problem:

I have no profiteroles.

Just reading that makes me feel sad. 😄

Missing the point, but don't profiteroles go really soggy in the freezer?

Was going to say this too. If they’re filled and then frozen they won’t be that nice. I freeze the buns then refresh in the oven and fill just before serving, to make sure they don’t go leathery.

Movinghouseatlast · 25/11/2022 14:29

Thank you everyone!

I almost did a trio of desserts but...

I made some more instead!

I'm still amused at the person who said I wasn't serving enough veg!

Can I come? I’m a perfect dinner party guest (if I do say so myself).

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 25/11/2022 14:31

Nice! Can I have the big one on the top?!

diddl · 25/11/2022 14:32

I would generally have more than 2 unless tennis ball size.

But really if my friend had made a lovely meal like Op is doing it wouldn't spoil things.

I'd rather the two than no pudding!

It's not as if the food will be so lacking that the pudding is needed to fill up on!

Yes I haven't filled them and frozen them! I will refresh in the oven then fill them.

Thank you OP @Movinghouseatlast
I do like it when a thread is successfully updated

and I'm impressed by you effortlessly whipping up a new batch 😀

Redcrayons · 25/11/2022 14:51

Well done, OP. More profiteroles is never the wrong answer.

Or, on top of a cheesecake! Yum

Yes!

Dotingmumandgranny · 25/11/2022 15:38

Make some more and let me know when to call round.

That is what I call a proper update 😋

Glad you’ve made more (they look lovely!) and glad it was unanimous that 2 profiteroles are not an adequate dessert on their own!

bluepen12 · 25/11/2022 16:13

@Movinghouseatlast Op these look awesome! Would you mind sharing the recipe please?

minipie · 25/11/2022 16:15

YUM

Recipe please!

Also fwiw I think two would have been fine actually, maybe with a mousse of some kind to accompany and some raspberries. After blinis, slow roast pork and dauphinoise everyone will be stuffed! All sounds delicious.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 25/11/2022 10:23

Could you go grab some shop made ones and mix them in?

I’d do that. Or eat the remaining profiteroles and buy something else for dessert!

But I'm impressed that you made your own.

Eating the evidence and buying something else seems a good idea.

ancientgran · 25/11/2022 16:18

Oh just realised you made more. I hope there were enough for you to test them.

This reminds me when my MIL served 8 very very small roast potatoes in a dish in the centre of the table to 8 people.....

The 1st person took 4, the 2nd person took 4, then the 3rd person emptied the bowl (2) and sent it back for a "refill" - the look on her face was epic - she couldn't believe people needed more than one roast potato!

There was then a very embarrassed shuffling of roast potatoes....

This is hilarious but your numbers don't add up? 4+4+2=10. But you said there were 8 to start with?

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 18:31

I assumed pp meant the second person took two.

10 potatoes 8 people...

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 04/12/2022 21:44

I like that you came back to clarify. Grin

Oblomov22 · 04/12/2022 21:54

Two is not ok. Get strawberries, cream and flakes to go with it.

And a 2nd dessert eg cheesecake.
