2 profiteroles for pudding. Is this OK?

I'm.having some friends round this evening- newish friends.

We are having blinis with smoked salmon then slow roast pork, dauphinois potatoes and savoy cabbage.

I made and froze profiteroles last week to have for pudding and there are only two each! I think this will look a bit stupid but I can't really be arsed to make any more.

Is it not really worth serving them? They will look a bit lonely in the bowl. We clearly ate too many of the little buggers when I made them. Obviously they had to be tested...

I know this is a first world problem and I count myself lucky to even have profiteroles.

I'd do a profiterole, a small triangle of brownie topped with whipped cream and a large shot glass wirh bailey choc mousse in to make a little trio of choc puddings. the mouoses is really easy to make - just whip double cream, melted choc and baileys together and then chill.

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/11/2022 12:56

Serve them with Chantilly cream and some fresh fruit.

You're serving a starter and if there's cheese as well, it's plenty.

midgetastic · 25/11/2022 12:59

Add fruit as there isn't much veg on the dinner anyway

This will just look mean. Please do not do this.

DelurkingAJ · 25/11/2022 13:04

For a dinner party it feels mean. Always err on the side of too much food.

If it was just me and DH I might say ‘there are four profiteroles, do you want to split them?’ But not for a dinner party!

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/11/2022 13:06

It won't look mean, but if I knew people well enough to invite them for dinner I would just say I forgot to count when I made them and didn't make enough. No one will starve or die of shock.

paintitallover · 25/11/2022 13:08

It's not enough.

kingtamponthefurred · 25/11/2022 13:08

Two profiteroles are a garnish, not a dessert.

This reminds me when my MIL served 8 very very small roast potatoes in a dish in the centre of the table to 8 people.....

The 1st person took 4, the 2nd person took 4, then the 3rd person emptied the bowl (2) and sent it back for a "refill" - the look on her face was epic - she couldn't believe people needed more than one roast potato!

There was then a very embarrassed shuffling of roast potatoes....

Bloody hell there would be a riot if we only allocated 1 roast potato each in our house! DS would eat 8 potatoes by himself (he's 13) and usually then come out later in the evening in the hope there might be a couple more leftover...
He would leave profiteroles alone though!

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 13:09

Little individual cheese cakes (or other sweet) - 1 profiterole on top as a garnish.*

*this leaves more profiteroles for you to have. Win-win!

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/11/2022 13:12

Two!

You would be forever known as 'the stingy cow who obviously wanted us to leave early in a huff'.

Stravaig · 25/11/2022 13:12

I'd put them in dainty wee glasses instead of a bowl or plate. Plus add a cheese course, and a box of really good chocolates to share with coffee.

I actually prefer many small courses, rather than getting too full on just a couple. Apparently it's a minority view though!

TheChosenTwo · 25/11/2022 10:30

2?? TWO?! Have a word with yourself.
2 is what I’d eat while serving the pudding - 4 absolute bare minimum.
Two profiteroles… <walks off tutting and shaking head>

Yep... I'm not even that keen on pudding, but still agree that two isn't near enough! At least 5 is more like it... 😇

@Stravaig The number one rule with dinner parties is not to put your unusual preferences onto your guests.

diddl · 25/11/2022 13:36

Can you serve them as a Religieuse?

Just reading that makes me feel sad. 😄

Whereas, I would hide them and eat them when no-one else is home.

You're clearly much kinder than me.

What an odd thing to find unusual.

If people who put their greed before their friendships choose not to come, that means I get to eat ALL the profiteroles. Everyone is happy.

2bazookas · 25/11/2022 13:51

Only TWO??????

I'm hungry already.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 13:52

@Stravaig multiple small but decadent courses is a fabulous thing. You’re right, you could do that and it would work very well. Particularly with a cognac (or other drink of choice).

Sigh I’m hungry now, and in the mood for a dinner party.

Thank you, was feeling doomed to forever dine alone!

Putting greed before friendships!
I find meanness an unattractive character trait. It never manifests just in one arena either.

Tasting menus do this. But it takes an enormous amount of work to create enough small plates. You were suggesting three courses to replace just one dessert for example,le.

How is it mean to serve a half dozen courses instead of just three?

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 14:02

Oh I agree, meanness is a horrible trait. But many small courses isn’t mean (unless one does it meanly). Luxury isn’t always about quantity.
