2 profiteroles for pudding. Is this OK?

I'm.having some friends round this evening- newish friends.

We are having blinis with smoked salmon then slow roast pork, dauphinois potatoes and savoy cabbage.

I made and froze profiteroles last week to have for pudding and there are only two each! I think this will look a bit stupid but I can't really be arsed to make any more.

Is it not really worth serving them? They will look a bit lonely in the bowl. We clearly ate too many of the little buggers when I made them. Obviously they had to be tested...

I know this is a first world problem and I count myself lucky to even have profiteroles.

2 is a bit pitiful I think.

I'd add some ice cream and a posh chocolate sauce if I had no other option but otherwise would just buy in a dessert.

The rest sounds lovely OP and a lot of effort. I can't recall the last time I ate at a friends and they actually put on a homemade course meal and served it.

Missing the point, but don't profiteroles go really soggy in the freezer?

You just put them in a hot oven for a few minutes and they go crisp again!

Is this a MN record? So many posts in and nobody has said two is way more than anyone could want and just serve 1.

Ah yes,

‘Oh I couldn’t possibly eat two whole profiteroles - best to halve them, and serve with a cleansing smoothie, too, to get the poison out of me quickly!’

TrentCrimm · 25/11/2022 11:20

Well for a start you never serve even numbers of something- three would still be too small, so five is the minimum acceptable

Them's the rules I'm afraid

PearlclutchersInc · 25/11/2022 11:20

Only two😮 Nowhere near enough for the gannets amongst us!

RampantIvy · 25/11/2022 11:23

Blimey. I'm not a competitive undereater. Two sounds plenty to me after your delicious sounding meal.

When we have friends round to eat we don't always bother with pudding as most of them aren't bothered.

mast0650 · 25/11/2022 11:23

Depends how big they are. But even if they are fairly small, if you bolster with ice cream, raspberries, plenty of choc sauce it will be more than fine. Very impressed that you made them!

You don't really need to acknowledge that you are lucky to have any profiteroles

3WildOnes · 25/11/2022 11:31

I like the earlier suggestion of serving with a scoop of chocolate mouse and a scoop of ice cream. I would top with some raspberries too. Jamie Oliver has an easy chocolate mouse recipe.

Lol, I was thinking the same! Nice to find fellow chocolate lovers. I would have at least 3 and they're not even in my top 5 desserts ! 🤣

"2 profiteroles would be enough for our family of 5 including the obligatory strapping teens and 6'2" DH, and there would probably be leftovers...."

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/11/2022 11:33

Raspberries and ice cream.

PauliesWalnuts · 25/11/2022 11:36

I make them regularly for family things - home made are generally bigger so I serve three. But just get a couple of punnets of strawberries and a bar of Bourneville, melt it, and dip the strawberries in, place on a piece of grease proof paper on a baking tray, and chill. It’s dead easy and looks pretty fancy.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/11/2022 12:07

Could you add some fruit, maybe a banana?

Oh, perhaps not! 🤭

This reminds me when my MIL served 8 very very small roast potatoes in a dish in the centre of the table to 8 people.....

The 1st person took 4, the 2nd person took 4, then the 3rd person emptied the bowl (2) and sent it back for a "refill" - the look on her face was epic - she couldn't believe people needed more than one roast potato!

There was then a very embarrassed shuffling of roast potatoes....

Muggeridge · 25/11/2022 12:14

My mum thinks 2 chicken thighs per person is a lot. For massive teenage sporty boys 😀

Purplepeopleeaterz · 25/11/2022 12:25

As a really greedy person with a love of profiteroles I would cry if served 2...but DH & I usually have half a Sainsburys box (from frozen section) each usually 9 each I think?

MajorCarolDanvers · 25/11/2022 12:28

I'd be disappointed with only 2

daisyjgrey · 25/11/2022 12:29

TheChosenTwo · 25/11/2022 10:30

2?? TWO?! Have a word with yourself.
2 is what I’d eat while serving the pudding - 4 absolute bare minimum.
Two profiteroles… <walks off tutting and shaking head>

This.

I'd add a cheese course and serve the profiteroles afterwards with coffee.

hosyyy · 25/11/2022 12:30

Get some chocolate mouse pots and decant into a bowl and plop them on top and drizzle over chocolate sauce?

TurtleTriplets · 25/11/2022 12:33

I think you need to make them into a trio of deserts, so the profiteroles, a scoop of icecream and either the chocolate dipped strawberries or even better, chocolate brownie.

Or put them on a cheesecake as suggested.

antelopevalley · 25/11/2022 12:46

Trio of desserts is the best suggestion. Or making a profiterole sundae.
You don't want people thinking you are mean.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 25/11/2022 12:47

Depends on the size.

tOfficial Guinness Records,

The largest profiterole is 150 kg (330.70 lb) and was achieved by Associazione Cons.erva in collaboration with Etica Del Gusto, Despar, Uova Pascolo Fantoni and Crespi at Gemona del Friuli, Udine, Italy, on 16 April 2016.

ScrabbleChamp64 · 25/11/2022 12:51

It’s not enough!

Could you serve alongside some fresh fruit and cheese? Then there is a selection of “picky bits”

Stripedbag101 · 25/11/2022 12:56

My aunt considers a dinner party a success if there are no left overs! A few christmases ago she had calculated two sprouts and one roast potato per person. We still giggle about it!

i always think when you are hosting the portions should be generous, not stingy.
