Some beautiful rooms here and also some that give me the heebie jeebies.

I think the nicest rooms are clean, tidy and have barely anything in them with all the storage hidden nicely away. The features in period properties here are gorgeous. I also think that lighting is a huge thing, the ones with exposed light bulbs from basic shades don’t seem very relaxing at all. And random clothing rails / piles of stuff on the bedside table / wires everywhere doesn’t do it for me.

I doubt they “do it” for anyone 🙄. Lack of storage/time/interest/money aren’t supposed to be design features.

Thanks I will look into that. I was keen on curtains but blinds may be a good option as the sun is terrible in the morning. ( waking at 6 here, bloody hell and damnation).

You could keep the blinds for their practical function, and drape some coloured voile hanging down from an iron rail above them just to soften the look. This would be easy to do and pretty cheap.

Sort of like this picture, but a nicer pole.

In my bedrooms and living room I have blinds as well as curtains (roller blinds though) as I think it's smarter and they both serve different purposes.

Here's mine. Just had the decorators in Smile

Ooooooooooh magnifique!

Onlyjoinedforthis · 24/11/2022 09:19

@userxx no, the rug serves no real purpose. We went for a very short pile, scrubbable carpet and that meant the room needed a bit of texture and softening, so the rug is just for that.

Going to put a painting above my bed at some point…

Love the Morris room, I have Morris and Co bedding, but sadly no wallpaper, my house has no storage whatsoever so lots of drawers in the bedroom, before and after attacking my orange pine.

I really need to know how you upcycled those drawers so well and how long it took.

TrickyD · 24/11/2022 09:24

This is the view from my bed.
Eufy on its round.

Onlyjoinedforthis · 24/11/2022 09:24

@Yepy it's a piece of cake.
I always use chalk paint as a primer because it sticks so well and you just slap it on without worrying about brushstrokes.
I then use an eggshell paint. I paint any bits that can't be rollered, then use a mini roller to do the rest.
For drawers, I remove them and paint the fronts but not the sides.

And another

@Scottishgirl85 is that one of those tiled fireplaces? Did you paint it? I have a large one on my dining room. I don't love it, but have never thought of painting it.

Well that’s the point isn’t it, everyone has different priorities and interests innit

Some of these bedrooms are beautiful!!
we have a loft conversion bedroom, we currently are struggling for ideas for how to store our clothes, we currently have them on rails in the eaves as the ceiling angles down with the roof each side of the room.
Cannot seem to find a decent solution as cannot fit a full sized wardrobe!

Here's mine. Unfortunately DP was slopping out with a fresh bottle of San Pellegrino water and wouldn't move so unfortunately his ugly mug is also in the pic. :(

Ya wished 🤣

IHeartGeneHunt · 24/11/2022 09:43

@oakleaffy the wallpaper was from Amazon! I love it. The rest of the room is supposed to match- green curtains and dark tropical leaf bedding. It looked great before the child and dog came along but it's happier now, even if it'll never be tidy again!

This is mine, when it was tidy for estate agent pics

This is gorgeous

CornedBeef451 · 24/11/2022 09:55

@PeeAche2 that looks pretty tidy to me! I really like your duvet cover, where was it from?

Ta. Good idea.
I'm tempted to post a photo of my whole bedroom but it is a disgrace. Messy and covered in clothes . It is my mission to get it sorted next year.

It. took about two/three days to do each one, I sanded them down and did one coat of paint first day, second day second coat of paint and varnished the top, then following day they went back into bedroom, new knobs put on and done.

sonylala · 24/11/2022 10:00

Here is my bedroom. I like it calm and uncluttered. I am sure others will say dull!

Well yes.....the nicest rooms are of course the ones that people don't actually live in. In reality storage is key because most people don't have a spare room to store their stuff. I prefer the rooms with personality. That's more interesting than the ones with generic everything.

oakleaffy · 24/11/2022 08:37

Nice try😂

I doubt someone selling a gaff for nearly 18 million squids would be posting away on MN!

Liz Jone's rented house is being sold and here's her bedroom from Rightmove...

I don’t like generic everything either, but I also hate wires / cables everywhere so they’re always all tidied away. I don’t think exposed lightbulbs and charger wires mean “personality” personally! Especially if you take a pic to post on the internet I think you’d tidy up a little bit first!

Ouch. Sounds like you need blinds and curtains.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 24/11/2022 10:22

I i made the hanging decades ago for a Venetian exhibition, it was on the landing for years then had seven years in a trunk when we moved. This room is in a loft conversion which has an awkward half wall in the middle.
