A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

@Patronus gotta love a wardrobe tidy!

Yesterday I looked at a pile of paperwork that has been there for ages and realised I could just recycle it as it was all done and dusted - result.

Today after I saw that the newly wreathed door (white plastic - the door not the wreath) looked v grubby I gave it and the porch a going over with cloth and brush and clever cobweb catcher thing. Much better!

Have hung up three pictures today, as haven't made a hash of any of them. This is giving me confidence for the living room picture wall I've been meaning to do for about two years!

ShadowNight · 08/12/2022 18:43

Today I've done random admin type jobs that have been building up, gave the kitchen sink a good scrub and cleaned the dishwasher.

Still plenty more stuff to do - the fridge freezer needs a clean for a start.

clary · 09/12/2022 10:48

Pleased with myself today - spent 20 mjns sorting out my spice shelf and combining some doubles (don't need two half jars of chilli powder) - result!

StewardsEnquiry · 09/12/2022 16:45

I had to go into town today to pick up some baking bits for Christmas. The parking was awful and I was tight on time but I managed. I checked my tyre pressures on the way home as well. And yesterday I cleaned half of a huge fiddly light fitting we have. The worst bit is still to do. I just couldn't face it yesterday.

pinneddownbytabbies · 09/12/2022 16:57

I've just tidied the cupboard where we keep all the tins and jars and pickles and whatnot. Just rearranging it has made loads more room for Christmas stuff coming in, and it only took about five minutes.

Brace yourself, Rodney!!!

StewardsEnquiry · 09/12/2022 17:16

Yes it might be a bit like that!!

clary · 14/12/2022 07:58

Gone a bit quiet - we are all so busy! Last three days:

Tidied my running kit drawer - soooo satisfying! Can see what I have and chucked a couple of things.

Tidied a pile of paperwork in a cupboard.

Today - cleaned the shower hose - it’s ridged bendy metal and I noticed yesterday it was v grimy. Went at it with a toothbrush.

Thanks to this thread there is a real difference - tidy shoes cupboard, tidy desk, tidy cupboard in kitchen. It’s all joyous! Thanks @ShinyHatStand

Wrapping- I've kept a bag of wrapping paper and bits in the lounge, then wrapped 3/4 presents at a time all week.

I have the stocking gifts and one big present left to do. Can't believe it. No back aches at all. Why have I never done this before?!

clary · 17/12/2022 11:13

Great work on the wrapping @Goldieshock that’s the way forward. I have tidied some weird slots either side of the oven that we use for meds, cookie cutters and other odd bits. Chucked a load of empty ibuprofen boxes.

Lentilweaver · 26/12/2022 11:01

How is everyone doing? I was away before Xmas and came back to a lot of big tasks but now trying to get back on track. Today's small task was ordering a book I needed and some comfy knickers! Also threw out some cardboard boxes.

FlorencenotRatchet · 27/12/2022 14:42

Been trying to do little jobs but not posted before. Determined to stop procrastinating.
Today I cleaned one of my kitchen cupboards that was overflowing with things that have not been used in years.
All neat and tidy now!

mum2jakie · 27/12/2022 14:58

Merry Christmas everyone! Lost some motivation in the weeks leading up to Christmas but am determined to get back in the swing of things before the new year.

Am back in work tomorrow so need to clear some stuff out today.

clary · 27/12/2022 17:43

This thread has been very motivating.

Today I cleaned a plate cupboard - not too untidy but needed a clean. Yesterday I gave the bathroom an extra deep clean as part of its regular Monday clean.

Lots of bits of my house are now much tidier thanks to this thread Grin

Galaxyinmypocket · 27/12/2022 17:56

I need to join this!

I've done some clothes clearing, sorted a bag to chuck and a bag to donate, everything is not stuffed in the clothes drawers now, they are neatly folded.

I took all boxes and rubbish from Christmas to the tip yesterday too.

I still have so much more to do

OldSchoolCasualty · 27/12/2022 17:58

I need to take DD outgrown clothes to my friends little girl.
This is great motivation, and also a good way to find all the niggly bits that I end up doing that could definitely be done by the OH! like cleaning inside the kitchen cupboards.

HardStareBear · 27/12/2022 18:55

I've finally changed the lightbulbs that give off a horrible yellow light. I've kept the old energy-saving bulbs for emergencies but they won't be used otherwise!

clary · 27/12/2022 19:02

@Galaxyinmypocket how this has worked for me is that, altho yy there is (always) so much to do, for this thread you just need to do one small job, just a 10-min task - and then you can feel that you have achieved something.

I have tidied a whole storage wardrobe, my desk, drawers in my room, several shelves in my kitchen :)

Cantthinkofabettername · 27/12/2022 19:19

Just seen this thread - love it already. Today I reorganised the fridges (we have a small one in the garage purely for Xmas or bbq’s as ours in the house isn’t big) and the snacks from Xmas.

Lndnmummy · 27/12/2022 19:22

We have been to the recycling centre today with a boot full. Feels great.

Also ordered confidential waste sacks from a shredding services company. We have years worth of old paperwork buildup so cant wait to het rid.

Tomorrow I will be going through wash baskets (all 4 of them) and get rid of the things at the bottom thay never sees the light of day.

Cantthinkofabettername · 28/12/2022 07:36

I need to get the washing baskets emptied today (just mine and DH’s as the kids do their own washing!).

Allthefun81 · 28/12/2022 15:35

Cleaned my bedroom out, threw away 2 bags of rubbish.

Put into recycling for charity shop all the bits I want to replace from our Christmas collection (table cloths, towels, some ornaments that haven't been put out for a couple of years)

Sorted the laundry pile.

Feeling quite accomplished today!

HardStareBear · 28/12/2022 15:47

Today I've returned the 'Christmas miss' gifts & I've posted my son's passport for renewal. After a cup of tea, I'm off to wrap some presents for family that we'll see in the next couple of days.

Lubli456 · 28/12/2022 16:32

Ive wallpapered my pantry wall with a roll I had leftover. It took much longer than expected but it looks pretty
