A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

OH has taken the tree down today!! Bit earlier than normal but we are both back in work so certainly feels like the festive season is over already

mum2jakie · 29/12/2022 21:55

Been busy today so only managed to throw out an old empty box that had been taking up unnecessary space on the wardrobe. Planning a trip to the tip to get rid of some packaging/boxes from Christmas presents that won't fit in the bins.

clary · 30/12/2022 01:05

On weds I stripped the chicken and made chicken pie, also sorted out my box of cupcake papers and cake decorations (everyone has one, right?) and washed all the candle holders. Thurs I cleaned out and tidied my baking tin shelf which had been bugging me.

CarnageAhead · 30/12/2022 12:55

Ooh, please can I join?
I retired recently and all I’ve done up to now is clean out and rearrange the wardrobe. It was a start and I found it intensely satisfying.
I ended up counting how many plastic bags I had in the bottom, and it came to 20!
I divided them in two piles and put them in both the car boots so that we don’t buy any more. Unless we forget they are there …😃

Cantthinkofabettername · 31/12/2022 12:44

Managed to plan some bulbs this morning and sort out the rest of my seeds into bags for months that they need sowing in.

clary · 31/12/2022 13:27

Yesterday: tidied fridge and threw away (or ate in the case of the trifle!) the lady of the Christmas food that needed to be gone.

Today: sorted a couple of piles of Chr presents that were sitting about by the tree. Tree is a trad spruce and starting to drop, so I also swept up the needles around it with a small brush (hoovering underneath it just makes more drop off!)

Newlifeintherain · 31/12/2022 13:44

Replaced the baths plug chain.
Been broke ever since I moved in. Could not stand the thought of going into New Year with it still not fixed!!

mum2jakie · 31/12/2022 20:52

Happy New Year to everyone on the thread old and new. Let's try and keep up the momentum during 2023!

Not achieved much today. Just taken a meter reading - very scary how much gas we have used over the last month! Made me turn the heating off anyway!

FlorencenotRatchet · 01/01/2023 12:40

A productive morning for me.
Xmas tree down.
I've started to clear out my hall cupboard. 2 rubbish bags and 3 for the charity shop. Still need to tackle all the paperwork but that's a whole other job.
Also replaced 2 blown bulbs in the kitchen and cleaned the light fitting which was filthy Grin

clary · 01/01/2023 13:46

Great work everyone! Happy New Year!

Yesterday I also returned a couple of books that were doubles (for some unknown reason I actually bought the same book for DD twice!) to waterstones and picked up a lovely gift card.

Today I have taken a deep breath and replied to some slightly tricksy emails that I have needed to deal with for a couple of weeks. Feels good! Also planning to put some bits on ebay this afternoon.

Lndnmummy · 01/01/2023 16:55

I have made another trip to the recycling centre. Today I have glued large lego creations and playsets that always break. No idea why I didn't do this years ago. I have also made a list of all the things we need help doing around the house so we can tackle one a month or so to stagger the cost.

Glued!! Nooooo!! The Kraggle!

mum2jakie · 01/01/2023 17:00

Day one of a new year! Have started very small and just submitted the electricity reading. (Couldn't get to you it yesterday as the kids had the playstation out.)

Think that's enough for a wet bank holiday!

Lentilweaver · 01/01/2023 17:02

Returned library books and threw out a heap of plastic boxes and bottles.

Cantthinkofabettername · 01/01/2023 17:49

Managed to brave the allotment and take some
photos to work out what to do with it this year.

ninetieseyebrows · 01/01/2023 17:57

descaled the coffee machine
cleaned out the fridge
ordered lightbulbs for bathroom ceiling spotlights (been living with just one for weeks)

Fuuuuuckit · 01/01/2023 18:05

Unashamed place marking for later. Will start with putting the Xmas boxes back in the loft after tea.

Calphurnia · 01/01/2023 19:18

Christmas decorations are down and packed away.
Soft plastics, batteries and empty cosmetics pots taken to the supermarket for recycling.
Outgrown clothes on Vinted or Facebook.
I feel quite accomplished!

TribeD · 01/01/2023 20:17

If I may, I'd like join in? There's a load of little niggly jobs that I seem to never get around to, but I know I'd feel so much better for getting them off my "list"

Today's job wasn't small. Christmas Tree and other decorations all taken down and the house put back to rights.

Tomorrow I want to sort out the cupboard on our landing as it becomes a bit of a dumping ground and could be put to much better use.

FlorencenotRatchet · 02/01/2023 12:49

Today was underwear and sock sorting.
My goodness! One rubbish bag of old/odd/worn out socks and pants.
Think I need to get some drawer organisers to stop them reverting to a jumbled mess.

Slimjimtobe · 02/01/2023 12:52

Would love to join in. I have most of the decorations down and put away. just to tackle the Garland in in the hall (cut off cable ties) and store away. I’ve the Halloween stuff in the hall (can’t see this part of the house from main area) so I will store that once all the Christmas stuff has gone in first

PinkyU · 02/01/2023 13:10

I would love to join also!

Today I’ve cleaned my bathroom blind and window after noticing some mould gathering, will now ensure the window is kept ajar.

After lunch I’ll empty the fridge, make an inventory (for meal planning) and clean it. I may also do the cupboards and larder.

I also have a couple of bags of clothes to look through for DD2 & DD3 to see what fits and that they’ll wear (thank goodness for hand-me-downs) if I get round to that.

Cantthinkofabettername · 02/01/2023 17:43

Took my youngest 2 teenagers back to their college today - it’s a bit of a trek so I’m counting that for today 😎

mum2jakie · 02/01/2023 17:50

Unwanted parcel returned which resulted in having to purchase replacement ink for the returns label. That stuff is more expensive than gold!

clary · 02/01/2023 19:14

Sorted out one of my Advent calendars and put aside a few bits I don’t want (to sell). Checked all drawers and found one I had not opened! Put empty box back in box it was delivered in so as to sell it later in year.
