A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

Cleared out the basket where I put magazines, some were dated 2019! There were so many that I could hardly carry them, and so heavy that I will have to take them to the recycling station on the main road, don't think that the bin men would be able to lift the recycling box!

Goldieshock · 27/11/2022 14:31

Good work everyone

I've cleared a space for the Christmas tree and recycled loads of magazines & books. Why on earth I keep them.....

mum2jakie · 27/11/2022 14:35

Remembered to renew the TV licence online so I'll take that as today's task. Tomorrow I need to phone the dentist and rearrange our next appointment

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 27/11/2022 15:44

Afternoon all! So far today we've been shopping, and DP is sorting through the laundry mountain alone thanks to a grizzly baby who only wants me 🙄 I'll be making chicken, bacon and asparagus pie with mash for tea though - I haven't cooked from scratch much at all the past few months, so that'll be nice to do.

MotherOfPuffling · 27/11/2022 16:02

Doubly incontinent cat has diarrhoea again.. Todays planned job has been jettisoned, as any energy I can find is being used to clear the film of ordure that is spreading across the house 😞

StewardsEnquiry · 27/11/2022 18:30

I'm counting a bonus small job for today. I sewed on a name tag to a gym top that I kept noticing needing doing. Plus I started to sort the sewing box which is in an awful state, but that will need a whole job of its own. One for another day.

ShinyHatStand · 27/11/2022 20:01

@MotherOfPuffling that sounds hideous. Hope cat improves soon

I've let the side down today. Took part in a sporting event this morning and then was felled by a godawful migraine this afternoon. Spent the last 6 hours asleep. Haven't had one in years.
Will need to catch up tomorrow. My filthy bins are still outside ☹️

Did mostly big jobs yesterday-batch cooking etc- but at 11 pm, just as I was going off to bed, I tossed some bath mats into the wash. They always get ignored.

Hope you feel better @ShinyHatStand . DD suffers from migraines and they are crippling for her.

clary · 28/11/2022 13:00

Continued my bathroom work with the second drawer...mostly stuff of DD's but I now know what's in there.
Keep it going everyone #mondaymotivation

What a great thread, I'll join in too! Today I put away the poker tabletop and un-extended the dining table so it's ready for dinner rather than a poker game. Quite chuffed with that as it's pretty bulky and heavy, I wasn't sure i could manage it by myself, but I did! My list of "little" jobs grows by the day, but at least we're getting stuff done, right?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/11/2022 14:40

Oh this is a great thread!! Going to join in.... tomorrow...

Lol! Am also queen of procrastination!

Today have rearranged a dental appointment and submitted meter readings

MotherOfPuffling · 28/11/2022 15:17

Phew, less cat incontinence to deal with today, and in addition to actual paid employment have managed to clear the side table of all DD’s stuff and put it in a box in her room (she is 8 and her art things take over the whole house unless regularly corralled!) Can’t safely run the robot vacuum until sure there will be no soggy surprises from her furry highness though…

Goldieshock · 28/11/2022 16:59

Another bag to charity today, also removed some less loved mugs from the cupboard to go to the emergency spares shelf in the larder.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/11/2022 18:01

I have done stuff today but it's all run of the mill things (hoovering etc) so I can't count those. But tomorrow I will re-apply the silicon around the windows in the kids bedrooms which I had to remove due to black mould build up.

ShinyHatStand · 28/11/2022 22:13

Well done all.
I attacked the bins with a power hose. Very satisfying, if slightly grim.

A very long work day but I did clean out my fridge vegetable drawers and used up some elderly veg.

hulahoopqueen · 29/11/2022 07:30

Picked up DSS's new uniform bits from asda, wrapped and labelled about 3 Christmas presents.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 29/11/2022 12:11

I have scrubbed (most) of the dirt out of my hallway floor. Just inside the front door was looking sodding awful. Also washed the doormat yesterday, so once it's all dry and out back together it should look much better less terrible .

StewardsEnquiry · 30/11/2022 08:18

On Monday I cleared up my tangle of cables and chargers in the corner of my bedroom. Looks much better now. Yesterday I sorted out the customs label to return a light fitting that I had ordered without researching properly and it doesn't do what I thought it did..... why do I make work for myself???!!!

Today I am taking that light fitting to the post office. I'm going to try to look for another little job for today though because I would have gone to the post office anyway.

StewardsEnquiry · 30/11/2022 17:05

I'm reporting my little job. I was finding it really hard to get myself going to find something to do so I put away 8 items off my desk and put some medicine away. Just a tiny job today but I did something.

CaptBuckyOHare · 30/11/2022 18:50

Today I took some baby gear that had long been outgrown to the charity shop. Been meaning to do it for ages!

clary · 30/11/2022 19:03

Last bit of the bathroom cabinet today- chucked some old tanning lotion so all good.

ShinyHatStand · 30/11/2022 20:58

Well done all.
I've done faffy jobs this evening.
Bit of Xmas planning and shopping. Charging a pile of dead bike lights. Oh and I washed my filthy bike earlier.

Nothing major but did remember to transfer some money into savings before the end of the month
