Lemons, what didn't you enjoy about the aquarium?

ZZ, are you getting more snow tomorrow night or Tuesday? We're supposed to get 3-5 inches, so our first proper snowfall this winter.

Silkie, that's lovely that you got DS for the weekend again. Are you feeding Floof canned tuna for humans or tuna-based cat food?

DS is on his way home from Boston, and we expect him shortly. He had dinner last night with MIL and other family members who live in the area, so MIL was very pleased to see him.

I actually can't keep up - we seem to have so many different upcoming snowstorms. We had about 4" today on top of yesterday's heavier snowfall, and we're due for some more tonight. Them another 5-6" Mon to Wed. Then more snow on Fri but no idea how much. It's actually really pretty, lovely, and a nice temperature as long as you dress right. I've been snowshoeing with the dog the last few days and I've fallen over at least once each time, so I clearly need more practice.

I love that your DS visits MIL. Hope he had fun in Boston.

mathanxiety · 27/02/2023 02:33

We're inching toward spring here, in fits and starts as usual. Spent the day catching up on laundry and looking online for graduation dresses for DD3, my favourite kind of shopping.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/02/2023 06:56

I thought in terms of the things on offer for the price. It would have been like £45 for two of us plus DS for like an hour and half of an aquarium.

We used our Tesco vouchers so cost us nothing. (Tesco is a British supermarket that offer like loyalty points which you can exchange for vouchers for days out, hotels etc).

Nice MissC for your DS to enjoy time with your MIL.

new job today eeeekkk

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2023 10:38

Back home again.

-4 here and we had the usual 2,5 cm of snow, which of course is gone now.
But there is at least some sunshine.

DS had a serious conversation with his father (I can't do it we are too similar) and is now prepared to do some work.

DD is on the mend, but has pinched a nerve because of her cough. She's been given pain medication and excercise.

Silkierabbit · 27/02/2023 11:04

Hope new job goes well today Lemons

Glad you are back home again Prok

It's tuna for cats MissC and it's apparently so good it needs Floof to wake me up and then he trills a lot. It was 1am when dh said no and thankfully he calmed and then 7am gave him a big tin that time.

DS did not want to go back to hospital but called and they said he had to go back due to meds and that if we could not get him back would be secured ambulance and if none available would be police and said that might well be the case. Poor DS cried and then went back with DH. They did say working on discharge plan. Think takes around 5 weeks on their plan to come off meds currently on but are trying anti depressant as well.

MissConductUS · 27/02/2023 20:56

ZZ, he had a nice time in Boston. I am blessed with a lovely MIL and she has a great relationship with both of the kids. She also very generously contributed to their uni costs and they are very grateful.

Silkie, sorry to hear about the upset of having to put him back in the hospital. At least they are working on his discharge plan.

I'm waiting to my orthopedist. I think my iliotibial band is acting up again. I hope I'm not looking at a second surgery.

MissConductUS · 27/02/2023 23:21

Lemons, how was your first day at the new job?

I was right; my IT band has tightened up again. He said it might have happened when I was recovering from my spinal surgery last September and was inactive for a few weeks. He thinks physical therapy will probably fix it, so I left with an RX for PT.

How was the new job Lemons? What an exciting time for you!

It’s taken a decided chilly turn here, I was freezing in work all day yesterday so making warmer clothing/layering choices today. But daffodils are starting to make appearances on my commute so spring is coming!

Is she graduating school or college? What do you look for in a graduation dress?

I have one graduating college this year - first one to do so in the US. It's very exciting but we have no idea what to expect!

IWanderedLonely · 28/02/2023 20:40

My feet are freezing! Discovered that my latest boots have a tiny hole already (my own fault for buying cheapo shoe zone ones when I have a bunion that ruins every pair I own eventully) and it rained so I've had wet socks all afternoon & my feet still haven't warmed up.
DH had baked a cake while I was out AND he's washed up. I think he may be an alien or robot replacementHmm

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/02/2023 21:09

Hope your DD is better soon Prok.

I Wandered it is cold isn’t it I did Forest School today and I was frozen solid after.

The new job is going well I love it so far. It’s a challenge but I do enjoy the step up. Teaching multiple classes in the week is a skill though!

St David’s day tomorrow so very much focused on Cymraeg ( Welsh ) and Welsh traditions.

My understanding is St George’s day in England isn’t such a big deal .

MissConductUS · 28/02/2023 22:00

Prok, how is your daughter doing?

Lemons, fab news about the new job!

ZZ, what would you like to know about college graduations in the US?

The promised snow arrived, mostly overnight. I think we got about 8 inches. The temp has been above freezing this afternoon, so the remnants have melted off the driveway and walk. Birds have been mobbing the feeder all day.

Miss She is slightly better but as long as she continues to cough, we have to wait.
8 inches of snow so roughly 20 cm, that's snow you can actually do something with, unlike my 2,5 cm.

Iwandered Same here, and all my shoes looked so deformed. I had a bunion (Hallux valgus) on my right foot - apparently it is genetic as all in the family have them. I had it operated a couple of years ago (then I gave you all the lovely word: Vorderfußteilentlastungsschuh). Now I can wear shoes that stay looking normal.

Lemon Funnily St. David and St. George show up in my google calendar, but St. Bonifacius does not

Lemon I hope your new job continues to go well!

mathanxiety · 28/02/2023 23:37

ZZ

The main thing is to find a pair of killer shoes or sandals, as that's the only part of the outfit visible below the gown when your DD walks across the stage.

DD (bachelor's degree) will probably get a light summer wedding style of dress, but I've seen dresses that were a lot more form fitting and glitzy, at three different universities. DD1 and DD2 both wore shift dresses, and both wore them again for work. DD3 wants the summer wedding style because one of the cousins recently got engaged and she's hoping for a wedding any time except winter.

MissConductUS · 01/03/2023 15:17

Math, when my son graduated from college, he was wearing shorts and a T-shirt under his gown, with sneakers on. After the ceremony, we went out for lunch and drove home.

It was nice working from home yesterday, but it was a little too reminiscent of 2020.

It certainly is lovely around the reservoir.

Went for a blood test this morning, 3 month repeat as my liver enzymes and cholesterol were a bit high. Phone call from Dr at 6 pm - liver enzymes have shot up since last time, so got to go for a scan ASAP. Have had a niggly stomach ache on and off for a while but nothing worth bothering about. Cue a night spent worrying.

HelenaJustina · 02/03/2023 06:34

Hope all okay wandered

so glad new job is a much better fit lemons

I went to sleep at 10pm last night but woke up at 1:15 and was awake for well over an hour. That’s not like me at all so feeling deathly this morning.

Silkierabbit · 02/03/2023 09:52

Hope all will be OK with tests Iwandered

Glad the job is going well Lemons

We had DS home for a fourth visit which went fine on Tues and Wed and been agreed we can have him Tues and Wed and Sat and Sun whilst they work on plan of what happens next which is still lots of waffly meetings where no decisions get made, everyone says it depends on someone else and they are all assessing with quite a lot of professionals involved have never come across catatonia and also some change staff each month and you go through same thing over and over. Hospital/health are saying will be weaned off lorazepam as long as catatonia goes to plan by early April and they are saying he does better at home than there and cahms are supporting return to home as best option. Think there's an issue over education though as LA are saying no schools in our area can take and apparently a residential school is normally multi agency funded. He very clearly wants to come home.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 02/03/2023 17:08

I'm not sure what I don't know about graduation IYKWIM? I was actually visiting DD at her uni just around graduation time last year and the weather was beautiful, and as far as I could see everyone was dressing up in graduation dresses/suits/outfits with gowns/hats over them, taking lots of professional photos in front of picturesque bits of the university, then getting hammered on the lakefront. It looked like a huge amount of fun and I'm hoping for much the same for us this year :-)

I'm wondering if we should be booking restaurants as there will be 7 of us.

Are seats at the ceremonies typically allocated or do you just turn up and grab some?

I'm guessing there will be photos available to buy... always a chance for shopping right?

I'm leaving DD to organise stuff such as cap and gown, dress, shoes etc.

My parents then fly back to the UK the evening of the second ceremony. Meanwhile I think immediately after graduation, DD has to move out of her room so that will be the usual chaos :-)

MissConductUS · 02/03/2023 18:39

ZZ it's going to vary a lot from one college to another. There will certainly be some sort of celebration beforehand. For DS, it was a big outdoor BBQ and casual. At other schools, it could be a dressier dance-type thing.

I would book a restaurant, but with plenty of time after the ceremony. They often run late, then it takes forever to get the crowd off the field and the cars out of the parking lot.

I would be very surprised if there was assigned seating, so plan on getting there early. And bring sunblock.

At DS's graduation, there was a photographer taking pictures as each graduate was handed their diploma, then another of them holding it after they came off the stage. We got an email a couple of weeks later with a link to his website to buy them. They'll want to sell you prints, but see if there's an option to buy the digital files.

DS had to move out of his dorm the day before graduation and stay with us in a hotel the night before. He gave away or tossed a lot of big things that there was no reason to take home, like his throw rug and minifridge.

You can always ring the Dean's office to confirm the details. When is the graduation?

I almost forgot, I saw a heron this morning in the reservoir. There are fish in it that attracts them. What a magnificent bird.

Beautiful Heron MissC how lovely to see that.

Hope you are OK Prok.

Floof is going tuns crazy. Had his normal breakfast tuna then kept making big hurt eyes at his empty bowl a couple of hours later, massive bowl of cat nuts next to it, then started putting two paws next to me and the big if you loved me yould get me more tuna look and cupboard banging as Floof thinks all cupboards contain tuna. He got a second tin. He's now doing it all again aiming for a 3rd tin. He's even doing eating imaginary tuna now putting his paw in his empty tuna bowl then licking it.

I spoke to someone about yesterday's meeting and they did not go but said they believe its definitely return to home as he's doing better there than anywhere else and clearly wants to be home. There's a meeting on Monday. She also reckons we will only be offered a local mainstream school with a delay too.

Will have DS Saturday and Sunday, go to Holiday Inn for Friday night and should see DS quickly then too and swimming.

MissConductUS · 02/03/2023 23:12

Silkie, That's great news about DS likely coming home. The next trick will be getting him back into school. He'll need a lot of support.

DgirlCat just yowls when she wants wet food. We keep a stack of the cans on the kitchen counter, so she's never associated them with the cabinet, thank goodness.

Silkierabbit · 02/03/2023 23:30

Floof stands up and bashes the cupboards with his front paws. It makes DS laugh which is lovely. We also still have our little Christmas tree up and last night Floof knocked it over for first time and was by it proudly trilling and rolling over and knocking the Christmas baubles around. Time we put it away really. 😂

Thank you - all very helpful! Graduation is June 10/11. I just realized DS’s high school graduation is the weekend before. It’s going to be a busy time. And expensive…
