I desperately want one. I couldn't find one before Halloween and was wondering if anyone would sell now that it's over?

Aw she's adorable! Looks like she's got a centre parting Grin

Do they ever get confused by your tattoos, or is their depth perception so good they can tell it's just a pattern on a solid surface?

The tattoos don't seem to phase them but the arm hairs do. Especially on my very hairy DP. They don't like his arms or hands at all!

Lydia is very chill but some off them will try and jump away to avoid the hairs.

I find it funny watching spiders and insects trying to navigate my equally hirsute DP 🤣

Spoodee · 13/11/2022 15:53

😂

He doesn't really handle my spiders. He's worried he will hurt them!

Thank you OP I was able to watch the YouTube one. She was so daintily picking her was along then it was like 'Mum...Mum...pick me up!'.

Compared to zebra spiders she seems huge.

PoseyFlump · 13/11/2022 16:25

Thank you so much for the video! 😍 Lydia is absolutely beautiful, just stunning. Nature is wonderful to create these creatures. It's true that you're frightened of things you don't understand but if you take the time to look properly you see how fragile and precious they are!

I think Lydia is saying 'quit recording me and serve up dinner!'

Spoodee · 13/11/2022 17:53

She IS REALLY sweet.

They all have different personalities. Some of them in don't handle because they just don't enjoy it but she really does. She's so enquisative and friendly.

I love her furry pedipalps! I saw a very nice cave spider and a teeny jumping spider hiding in a flower bud in the garden today, it's a good year for spiders outside too.

Think Mumsnet is mangling your links when you do a text link - vimeo.com/770410522 should work

Thankyou!

The video of Lydia is the most adorable thing! She's very very cute.

I don't often get Calcifer out but he's slowing down alot and I wanted some nice photos of him as I don't think he will be with us still by Christmas.

Sweet boy, so small.

What a cutie. Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favourite films/books (Calcifer is cuter in the film, though). Have you named the Nameless One yet?

I haven't 😩

I've been so busy and s/he hasn't come out at all so I've not really had a chance to see what suits.

Any suggestions?!

Hmm... Peach, for the little fleck of gold on its bum?
Amélie, for liking to stay hidden (like the woman in the film of the same name)?
Trinny, for its Trinidad origin?
Some of your previous names reference witchy things so Sabrina, Salem, Hilda, Zelda?

Saisong · 14/11/2022 08:41

What about Mumei - which means 'nameless' in Japanese

PoseyFlump · 14/11/2022 19:43

Oooh I like Amelie and Mumei. How do you pronounce Mumei? Is it like mum may?

Spoodee · 16/11/2022 16:11

New Lydia photos from her enclosure swap today.

Now that’s just adorable, she needs an illustrated children’s book about her.

I think I might call her Zelda!

Aww she is adorable on that little bridge!
Do they just need moss, lichen, leaves, and dead wood - or do you do miniature gardening styles? I'm think about garden styles from around the world.. I'd buy a book of tiny spider garden photos.

They can live with pretty much anything.

There's a lady on tiktok that makes little diorama rooms for them. Post offices. Bakeries etc. All plastic and they do fine.

I'm swapping over to bioactive enclosures right now. So all natural with 'clean up crew' which are little roly poly bugs and springtails that will eat the fly carcasses and leaf matter in the enclosure.

The natural enclosures.
