I desperately want one. I couldn't find one before Halloween and was wondering if anyone would sell now that it's over?

The one I woke up next to looker similar to Calcifer, but it had a red body.

Any ideas of what it could have been?

Are you in the US? Probably a jumper, they have red ones too

There are wild jumping spiders in the UK too but they're very small!

Could you perhaps contact Asda customer services to see if they have any stock left anywhere?

Your spiders are extremely cute! How did you find yourself having pet spiders?

I'll give them a ring tomorrow!

I was scared of spiders. Terrified. It was ruining my life. I saw Lucas the spider, the Ophelia the spider on Facebook.

I kept watching videos of jumping spiders.

A few years ago I got a single jumper, Lilith. But I was scared of her. I don't know why. She was absolutely beautiful, looked like Lydia. But I couldn't interact with her.

After she died I didn't have a desire to get more until I started watching videos again.

I started to watch tarantula videos too (Tarantula Kat on YouTube really helped me)

Then one day I was in a pet shop and they had a tarantula out, letting people hold him. And I held him and fell in love.

So I got a jumper. And another. And another. Then a velvet and a tarantula 🙈

Today I visited a invert show and they had huge tarantulas in tubs and I picked the tubs up with zero anxiety. I just think they're so cute now. It's mad!

2 years ago I would have been sweating and shaking even knowing there was a single tarantula in the room! Nevermind hundreds

OMG they are all so cute. I've always loved spiders.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/11/2022 20:37

I have a fear of ladybirds, always have for as long is I remember but having 4 boys over the last 27 years who were constantly bringing me bugs including lady birds means I can actually deal with them these days without the sweating and shaking like I used to do

Spoodee · 06/11/2022 21:11

I like lady birds.

Absolutely terrified of slugs. Hate them HATE

They smell funny! Just no 🤮

Ladybirds smell funny??

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/11/2022 22:53

Yeah, there was a thread on here a few months ago talking about how some people can smell illness and other weird things and a couple of posters said that ladybirds smell funny

First time I'd seen other people think that, usually when I say it people look at me oddly 🤣 they smell sweet and weird !

BobbyBleu · 06/11/2022 23:03

I never realised how cute spiders were until this thread so thank you OP!!

IcakethereforeIam · 06/11/2022 23:27

I've never noticed it myself but it's plausible that ladybirds have a detectable odour. The 7 spot and that new non native one, whose name escapes me, will aggregate to hibernate so definitely have an aggregation pheromone (not sure about the other species), this could be noticed by some people.

In the summer, I often see the native zebra jumping spider hunting (it's striped like a zebra, it...it doesn't jump them.....so far as i know). It's not as fuzzy as these little gems but it is very cute, in its own way.

Scientists think jumping spiders dream!

Dontsayyouloveme · 06/11/2022 23:46

If you did find the skeleton thing.. where would you put it out if interest?

I want to spray it pink and put it in the corner of my living room 😂

Wow. I'm going to be sniffing ladybugs this spring I guess! Cool.

We get little wild zebras on the tiles in our garden in summer. They're so sweet, they do jump!

It always makes me smile when someone discovers jumpers and it helps people see spiders in a new light, they really cured my arachnophobia.

I'm in SA and now have spent a good while doing some Googling. 😊. We have 356 identified species of jumping spiders here and 76 genera. It seems there are no records of anyone being significantly harmed by being bitten by one, and they are not aggressive at all. (I am sure you already knew that though)

Now I wish I'd been more friendly to my bed mate, I did just pop him outside to go have some new adventures out there.

I am very sure you have looked into this way more than I have, but the page I am on, Amatola looks like a superhero spider wearing mask goggles 😂

I shall get on with some work now, but it's been a wonderful distraction.

Don't. Seriously don't. They stink and it's horrible. They give off something when they're frightened/stressed. And if you squash one it's horrific 🤮

Your spiders are gorgeous. I didn't use to be a fan, but a neighbour (whose good books I needed to get in) insisted on putting their pet tarantula on me when I was at their house some years ago. I couldn't scream or panic because it might have fallen, which would have injured it badly. It was beautiful: a lovely furry grey, and huge! I liked spiders more after that!

CPL593H · 07/11/2022 09:47

@Spoodee just to say thanks for posting the pics of those adorable ones, you have really cheered my morning up!

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/11/2022 09:50

Omg. I’m both fascinated and appalled by those of you keeping these huge spiders in your house!

badjaw · 07/11/2022 09:50

Spoodee · 06/11/2022 15:04

They also lift their arms to gauge jumping distance so I've alot of pics where they look like they're waving or on a rollercoaster 😂

I love this 😆

IcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2022 09:55

The invasive ladybird is the harlequin, as well as the aggregation pheromones it will exude haemolymph from it's joints when disturbed, will cluster in houses to hibernate (and will return in successive years), will bite(!) in defense and to obtain salt(!!) and can cause allergic reactions.

NALBALT.🐞

IcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2022 09:56

Oh yeah, the haemolymph stinks.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/11/2022 09:57

Omg why did I click on this thread

they look cute and furry and huge tho you say size of finger tip
