I desperately want one. I couldn't find one before Halloween and was wondering if anyone would sell now that it's over?

She's a hyllus giganteus jumping spider. Her kind are also known as eyelash spiders for obvious reasons

Lydia is stunning. She needs her own instagram! Omg I love this thread ❤️

I'm a 'toucher' (as in, wanting to touch everything, I'm like an overgrown toddler FFS!) so I'd like to know what they feel like please. Especially Lydia who looks like the fluffiest one - and therefore the least scary looking for me.

Are their fluffy bits soft and also bristly at the same time, like a pipe cleaner?

Well, I haven't stroked them per se. They're very small and delicate and smaller than my finger tip so I wouldn't stroke them as I'd be in danger of squishing them.

Also they don't like things going over their head, they probably feel like they're about to get eaten with a big hand over them so they're likely to run. So I just let them walk over my hands. Which is very light and tickly. They also leave Web lines behind them which feel cool, surprisingly strong!

They also lift their arms to gauge jumping distance so I've alot of pics where they look like they're waving or on a rollercoaster 😂

I am in love with Brienne. She looks like she's wearing cats eye eyeliner. So glam!

Hugasauras · 06/11/2022 15:05

That last one looks like she's at a rave! Bless

They're so tiny, how
Do you keep them safe? Have you lost any?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/11/2022 15:20

Ohh that's so cute! How far do they jump. I don't know if I like the jumping thing! And what do they eat?

isthismylifenow · 06/11/2022 15:20

Oh Brienne is really pretty. I am not lover of spiders, but I live in a country where they are generally quite plentiful so they visit quite often. I just leave them usually as we don't bother each other. The only time that I interfere with a visit is for a sac spider, as they can leave quite a bit of damage if they decide to be unfriendly. I have a friend who has 9 toes thanks to one of them. I'm the master of relocating them though. I haven't had a visit from a spider with eyelashes though. We could be friends for sure.

I wish I could find the picture of a jumping spider that I woke up next to a few years back. Also really pretty, but apparently not great as a bed friend. I'm not sure which one of us got the bigger fright in the morning.

Also quite like the spider skeleton tbh.

CarrieMoonbeams · 06/11/2022 15:24

Ah well @Spoodee , if they can't be stroked, then that'll be the reason I won't have one. Not because I'm terrified, nope, not at all 😂

Thanks for explaining.

This is Calcifer

The one I woke up next to looker similar to Calcifer, but it had a red body.

Any ideas of what it could have been?

'It wasn't me - it was HIM!'

Oioicaptain · 06/11/2022 16:50

Well, I hate to be the Deputy Cunty-Pedant, but surely a skeletal spider wouldn't have any eyes at all! 😉

Oioicaptain · 06/11/2022 16:58

I hate spiders! But I have to admit that they are pretty cute, especially Brianne! I thought at first that she was a handmade felt Etsy creation. The 'jumping' part is slightly less cute.

Oioicaptain · 06/11/2022 17:01

@RedDwarfGarbagePod

You mean like this??

Oioicaptain · 06/11/2022 17:02

Bugger, it didn't work!

Google Lucas The Spider on YouTube.

Oioicaptain · 06/11/2022 17:04

Aha, if you just click on the 'Watch on YouTube ' bit the link still works.

@Spoodee Do you let your spiders watch Lucas The Spider?

This is Lydia

Oh little Lydia again! I swear looking at her photos before cured my arachnophobia Grin

OP, how do you look after your tiny spiddies
without accidentally squashing them?

I'd be too worried about doing that.

Dont they try to run off?

How long do they live for?

Have you every accidentally squashed one?

They're inside a cabinet and I haven't squashed one so far but came close the other day. One was sat ontop of a little stand in her enclosure and I moved the enclosure and the stand fell over with her ontop. I thought she was squished but she was fine

I also had a near miss with a mini bowl that was attached by magnets falling.

So it must happen but I've been lucky so far!

A few try to run (Beetle juice is the worst) but some love to be out like Lydia. Who just sits on my top whilst I watch TV.

They can live upto about 2 years (jumping spiders).

Some species of tarantulas can like upto about 25 years I think

Yeah, it can be worryingat first. You can sort of tell when they're about to jump. They wave their arms about
