What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Useless purchases include a wax hand pot that the cat burned himself on, and an Asperger’s steamer. If you want a long lasting and powerful vibrator, buy a Hitachi Magic Wand.

Well now I have no choice but to try the magic wand.

Air and Grace trainers. They gave me weird pain in one foot and looked completely shit on me. I persevered because I wanted to love them and they were so pretty, but they just look like stupid clown shoes on me and are not even that comfortable.

I wanted a pair of the navy/white high tops for ages. When I finally treated myself I was so disappointed. They were extremely uncomfortable at the toes and gave me blisters on the heels. I wore them once and then sold them on Ebay for less than half of what I paid. I don't get it when people rave about them. Give me a pair of Adidas SuperStar aka Shell toes any day 😂

Could your lady garden hair be more stronger than the other hairs ?

Hawkins why did I read your reply in Chandler Bings voice? 🤔😂

Noom.

I fell into that, too. Utter waste of money.

What is it about? I see the ads on IG but I don't really know what they do other than help women lose a lot of weight. What is the magic? I tried to get some info but they were so pushy about me signing up for a trial before they would tell me anything of substance.

They are just another a star diet that gives you more disfunctional ideals about your body and food.
they prey on you by pretending them are doing the “emotional “ work. No no if this was anything to do with health you wouldn’t be a weight loss diet, which you are!

ImRightOnTopOfThatRose · 05/11/2022 04:05

Mine is the Chanel advent calendar. I wish I had seen this first. 😕 Biggest pile of tat ever.

Ah. Thank you for that info. What does Noom mean?

I tried Slimming World but as a diabetic I couldn't get my head around carbs (pasta mainly) being free foods but bananas being syns if mashed up. 😂

My disappointing luxury item was a foot spa. I bought it for myself for Mother’s Day a few years ago. I thought it was going to feel great for my sore, tired feet but it was a bit meh. I think I’ve only used it twice.

NigelWithTheBrie79 · 05/11/2022 04:16

American style fridge that needed plumbing in. It doesn't keep the food as cool as my ex display Beko did and its a bugger to clean and maintain. It also does this random weird suction noise that never fails to make me jump. I do enjoy having ice cold water on tap but I'm not sure the expense and loss of space is worth it.

My dad worked for the council and one of the most tipped items are foot spas 😆

Anything Smeg. Our fridge looks * * great but the fridge door seal is broken and the model is now conveniently too old for spare parts to be available or for anyone to fix it. Both repair shops and Smeg’s advice has been “just buy a new fridge”. Same thing happened to a fridge at my previous work. Smeg would rather sell you a new fridge than repair one.
*
Their ovens are just as bad, ours has exploded twice with the self cleaning function.*

THIS! I spent a fortune on a double SMEG oven. It's never worked properly - the temperature is inaccurate, the grill keeps breaking down, a leg snapped for no reason. I'll never buy another SMEG

I love my Dyson Cordless, Dyson Fan and Apple Watch, but the worst thing I have bought was a steam mop, I have two because I bought one and then a year later bought a Vax carpet cleaner and got a free one, I hoped the Vax one might be better, it wasn't, I think they may go to the recycling centre. The Ninja air fryer isn't all its cracked up to be either but is useful for sausages.

garlictwist · 05/11/2022 05:41

Altra trail running shoes. They are so light, wide and comfy and I love how they feel but after a month of running in them they gave me plantar fasciitis as the arch support isn't good.

I keep going back to my old shoes until my foot is better and then givinig them another whirl and the same thing always happens. So disappointing.

Fraaahnces · 05/11/2022 05:44

@xogossipgirlxo I have an Apple Watch 4. I hope this problem has sorted itself out. I don’t have any extra apps on the thing, but if I try and record how far I walk during a shift (in a hospital) the battery kicks it about six hours in. As well as that, I find it gets quite warm and if I wear it for too many days in a row, I get a blistery rash underneath the face of the watch.

When you don’t have as much money as you. That was a very insensitive comment.

A White Company cashmere full length robe - luckily I got it at at outlet for 120 instead of 299. It just bobbles and bobbles and....feels great but looks manky.

YY to the Dyson Cordless. The battery is absolutely rubbish, I've lost count of the number of times we've had to replace it.

Thank you both posters about this.
Was considering a Dyson cordless.
Won’t bother now.
👍

Louis vuitton purse.
Disappointed by the zip. I've had much nicer £20 purses. I needn't have spent circa £400 on it.

Hunter wellies are useless - paid about £15 for a pair (they were real but bright yellow - for some reason that colour didn't sell well 😂). No insulation so your feet freeze also.

DH bought me a pair of Rockfish ones as I moaned so much - amazing!!

Agree.
Hunter wellies were hopeless for me, too.
Split across the part where toes flex.
Also freezing cold
Farmer’s Dunlops my DS swears by!

BCBird · 05/11/2022 06:12

Are you a hobbit made me laff. I have hairy toes too. I made an embarrassing comment to this to chiropodist who told me this was perfectly normal, that it was a sign no problem with circulation to extremities

A platinum baguette diamond eternity ring.

The diamonds don't lie flush and the platinum is soft so it's squished out of circleness Hmm

SAME! I have a platinum diamond eternity ring and it’s become an oval shape!

You need to pluck your toe hair - if you shave them they go all stubbly.

exactly

Oh I love my Altra Lone Peak…comfiest trail shoes I’ve ever had. I’m onto my third pair now. Shame they didn’t do better for you.

quiteathome · 05/11/2022 07:14

Podiatrist here- agree with an above comment, toe hair is a good sign. And something we look for on feet to check they are healthy.
