Best and worse fictional couples?

Best:

Friends Monica and Richard. I know it's controversial because he knew her as a child but I LOVE him. Stable, wise, funny and non dramatic. He was so much better for her than man baby Chandler.

Notting Hill Anna and Will. Such a lovely, happy ending.

Titanic Jack and Rose. He brought out her fun side and she fulfilled him... there was room on that floating door though! Should have tried harder.

Worst:

ER Doug and Carol. She takes an overdose because of him treating her like shit, they still keep up the on again off again bollocks. She ends up raising two kids alone then randomly turns up in Seattle and they live happily ever after? Nah. A more believable version would be turning up in Seattle to find him shagging someone else.

OFAH Rodney and Cassandra. She turned him into a snob who looked down on his own family, he was funnier when he was young and dippy. Also an ambitious bank manager with wealthy parents marrying someone who flogs knocked off tat from a suitcase? I doubt it.

Grease Danny and Sandy. The whole thing. Change your appearance and personality to suit someone else... then you'll get your man 👍🤔

Worst- Hermione and Ron would never have stayed together. They were both arseholes.

hattymattie · 28/10/2022 19:06

I'm rewatching Gilmore Girls too - it's a frat comfort watch when I'm tired - I actually think Emily and Richard are a pretty devoted couple .

TimeAtTheBar · 28/10/2022 19:10

Oh yes yes to Patrick and David. The Happy Ending bit brings me to tears. They are so secure with each other that David thought Patrick had arranged it and Patrick immediately got that David thought that and it wasn’t cheating.

Also Aziraphale and Crowley. Thousands of years of love/friendship.

I’ll think of some worst ones.

David and Patrick in Schitts creek. Just lovely.

Can't think of worst at the moment. Just finished a schitts creek binge.

I still miss that show!

HuntingoftheSnark · 28/10/2022 19:10

Best: Anne and Gilbert, Bobby and Pam.
Worst: Tess and hideous Angel.

Oh yes I love them together!
Best -
Sirius and Remus in Harry Potter. Oh no wait that didn't really happen, but blatantly should have.

Worst -
Ross and Rachel in friends. Or really Ross and anyone. He's so controlling.

ThePontiacBandit · 28/10/2022 19:18

Best: Definitely Pam and Mick, David and Patrick…(I know not original to the thread but wholeheartedly agree). Also Johnny and Moira - it just works! Who’s the eyebrows buying everyone drinks?! 😂

Worst: Bella and Edward, Buffy and Angel (honestly if the blokes had aged everyone would be saying gross!), Ross and Rachel - yes, he’s a controlling, lying arsehole and she should have gone to Paris!

AmeliaEarhart · 28/10/2022 19:18

Best: Jimmy/Saul and Kim in Better Call Saul. The finale broke my heart, but that moment when the were leaning against the wall, smoking, like in the first series was perfection.

Melanie and Ben in Snowpiercer. I love how much he respected her and Iddo Goldberg and Jennifer Connelly are both beautiful.

I’m going to go for the less obvious Schitt’s Creek choice and say Johnny and Moira. Just a lovely portrayal of a long, happy marriage with lots of tolerance.

I’ll need to think on my worst 🤔

warofthemonstertrucks · 28/10/2022 19:20

Best Pam and Mick from
Gavin and Stacey.
Worst Gavin and Stacey. Stacey is so whiny and annoying.
Anna and will from Notting hill op? No no. I can't agree. Anna was horrible to him throughout really, and really obnoxious when jumping to the wrong conclusiion te him calling the press-plus she was effectively cheating on Alec Baldwins
Character (even though he was a dick) and he always felt he was punching so it was always going to be unbalanced.

warofthemonstertrucks · 28/10/2022 19:23

I also like victor and Mrs Meldrew for best. She was obviously annoyed by him to the ends of the earth but she stuck with it and sometimes he still made her laugh and that seemed realistic to me.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 28/10/2022 19:25

Best: Allison and Joe from Medium. I think it’s a really realistically portrayed programme - if you ignore the ghosts of course lol!

Worst: Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan in Valerian. Up till the ending I genuinely thought they were supposed to be brother and sister, no chemistry whatsoever.
Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. Maybe I just didn’t like the film though.

Latenightreader · 28/10/2022 19:27

So glad people have mentioned my favourites Anne and Gilbert, and Harriet Vane and Lord Peter.

I feel the need to add Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth.

GreenCardi · 28/10/2022 19:27

I’m sure there are better ones but I love the chemistry between Noah and Ali (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) in The Notebook. It makes me want some proper teenage snogging 😂. Maybe it’s because they were a couple in real life too. Don’t get the same vibes from the older versions of them!

Worst: Joey and Dawson immediately comes to mind.

Immediately thought of this. Best couple EVER

TheRossatron · 28/10/2022 19:31

Agreed on Edward and Bella. She was so desperate. A typical "I only need friends to use until he comes back" twat 🤮

AnApparitionQuipped · 28/10/2022 19:32

Best - Rupert and Taggie (Rivals, Jilly Cooper)
Worst - Ginty and Patrick (Antonia Forest)

Piffle11 · 28/10/2022 19:33

Oh I love this!

Best:

Pam and Mick Gavin & Stacey
Margo and Jerry Good Life
Sheldon and Amy Big Bang Theory
Niles and Mel Frasier - controversial I know: I just felt that Mel had the same ideals as him, and actually gave him confidence to stand up for himself. I felt that Daphne belittled him: I know it was seen as her bringing him back down to earth, but I preferred him when he was snobby!

Piffle11 · 28/10/2022 19:35

And Klaus and Caroline from Vampire Diaries - even though they weren't strictly a couple.

SeasonsHeatings · 28/10/2022 19:36

Best:

Alex and Piper - OITNB
Alice and Dana - The L Word

Worst: Jenny and Shane - The L Word

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 28/10/2022 19:36

The couple that never was: Sam and Frodo.

Sam would’ve died for him. And vice Verda if Frodo hadn’t been under the influence of the ring.

Okbye · 28/10/2022 19:37

Worst: Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele - just no.
Joey and Rachel - I mean what idiot came up with that?! The whole storyline felt lazy and dumb.

OMG I'd forgotten about Joey and Rachel. You're right, that was the worst pairing ever!

MarigoldMoonStone · 28/10/2022 19:39

Best: Jack and Rebecca - This is Us

MovingOnUpp · 28/10/2022 19:40

Best: Jack and Rebecca - This is Us
I forgot about them.

1FootInTheRave · 28/10/2022 19:40

Worst: Romeo and Juliet.

Best: Sky and Sophie in Mamma Mia 😳
